Pizza Tower Speedrun Tutorial: Insta Turn (Peppino & Noise)

- Ever seen speedrunners turn around on a dime while keeping all of their speed? Well, here I am once again to show you guys how to do just that!
This video teaches you how to perform an insta turn in Pizza Tower, a high-level speedrunning trick that allows you to conserve horizontal momentum when changing direction. It has a pause buffer, a taunt buffer and an alternative variant called an "updog"

updogs reset speed to mach 3 because it depends on the momentum you have after the uppercut is finished
yeah, it depends on how fast you touch the ground in terms of how much speed you maintain
not entirely true from a technical standpoint. You can go below mach 3 if you updog at mach 3, retain mach 4 if you are above 20 speed, also retain mach 4 if you updog optimally near a slope to end the uppercut earlier, or even retain nearly all speed entirely if you updog at a room transition. (It's better to say that the longer you are in the uppercut animation, the more speed you lose)

I learnt that Insta-Turns existed without watching speedruns because I accidentally did one whilst messing around in the tower lobby, it was the taunt one specifically.

i didnt even know this was possible sahguwiahs. im really enjoying watching your videos on these speedrun stuff because im working on a platformer with friends and id love to purposefully put stuff like this in the game to make a high skill ceiling and reward players for learning mechanics, so thank you for bringing attention to all of this!!

there arent as many spots where instaturns are useful for noise as there are for peppino, mostly because noise cant wallclimb and that alone makes many instaturns unviable by itself, but there are still quite a few that are useful including a few in pizzascare and the pillar john instaturns

I love this videos even if i dont play pizza tower
to do the pause buffering version you dont even need to jump, you just need to go to mach 3/4 grab, pause when fastwalking, and turn and unpause!
this is just utilizing a grounded grab fastwalk and isn't unique to pausebuffers, you can do a taunt buffered or unbuffered insta with a grounded grab
Although jump grab is much better because it's easier to control when you fastwalk and also allows you to fastwalk much earlier
"whats updog?"
A way to make updogs easier is to simply press the high jump keybind while still holding run. I don't know if this is the preferred method for other people but I found it just works for me.

Hey i have a suggestion for hyperwoosts when you showed us in the tricky treat tas
now that i think about it you could mix a fastfall with an instaturn and make it a few frames faster
yes you can do a fastfall grab in the air into an instaturn, fastfall grabs are used a lot to make instaturns easier to perform in tighter spaces
@@cocoasprinklez oh, good to know, might use it in bloodsauce because i cannot for the life of me do an updog lol
while it's useful if you need a lot of downward distance, this doesn't always save time because you only go into a fastwalk state a certain amount of time after grabbing, therefore just by jumping and fastfalling you don't actually start fastwalking earlier than just jumping and grabbing

Pizza Tower just *FEELS* like a perfect game to have a speedrunning technique named "updog" for! I didn't even know it, but deep down, my brain wanted *SOMETHING* to get named "updog"!

and here I thought I was fast by doing the whole stopping on a dime by grabbing and pressing the opposite direction and then doing the grab slide stuff to get to an "immediate" mach 3
the fact that there's all these tricks does make the speedrunning scene quite interesting despite the lack of any rng (at least that I can remember)
There’s RNG in the boss fights
0:28 Again, fast-walks can also be performed using a grounded grab, but are generally not as useful when done so. John Gutter (depending on the strat you use prior to the John Pillar) and Oh Shit! have some instaturns that are set up using grounded grabs. Either way, KEEP HOLDING FORWARD when you perform your buffering method of choice, THEN hold the opposite direction and sprint.
1:16 This also makes jumping out of an instaturn much easier as you don't need to use your jump button to resume the game.
1:58 You don't need to jump into an updog, but It's faster to do so since your uppercut will end earlier. The uppercut ending earlier means you lose less speed and regain your sprinting state earlier. Updogs are most effective in areas with a low ceiling right next to a slope; such as here: 2:12, here: 1:27, one part towards the beginning of Fun Farm, etc. Updogs can also be used as an alternative way to slow yourself down if you just want to keep moving forward.

You could also do insta turn without grab, it works the same
uhhh no you can't lol, you instantly turn when changing direction if you're at a really low speed but you will always skid if you're at mach 2 speed or above

all you do for that is hold jump as you kill an enemy during a run, its pretty simple but very useful

oh results screen skip is now redundant in runs, as we now use the game's built-in speedrun timer which pauses during the results screens

I love how the title says peppino and noise but the noise doesn’t even appear in this video
its because everything shown also applies to noise, the title refers to it being a tech possible for both characters
I know one trick with The Noises Spin thing, but I don't know if anyone else knows since I don't know much about speed running strats.

if its to do with spinning off walls to gain a lot of speed then thats called a wallboost, i have a tutorial on that which specifically covers performing one and then using the tornado to preserve the speed

I don't know if it's a speed run truck but it's something I do
@@Thrownstar i dont think thats considered movement tech on its own and instead just moreso an aid in general movement, since ive definitely seen people do that in runs before

This isnt related to the vidio but i found my own speedrunning trick(it only works as the noise tho :( )so first you want to do noises instant super jump and then wile you are holding up you want to press whatever key every key bind is set to(exept the pause button) this will let noise do something i call the instant spin it lets you do the spin move at any time!

i thought pause abuse glitches were banned
pause buffers aren't classed as pause abuse, pause abuse is when you pause to stop enemies from despawning or alter how the physics behave (which pause buffered instaturns do not fall under)
