Turning Toxins Into Art | 'That's Amazing'

- Across America's Rust Belt, abandoned mines are leaching toxins into rivers and streams, turning them shades of dirty red. The color is disturbing, but for two men, it's also the tint of inspiration. One is a civil engineer who has begun extracting these toxins from the waters; the other is an artist, who transforms that material into acrylic paint and stunning works of art. This is one promising example of how art and science can collaborate to make our world a better place.

These restore my faith in humanity..that working together we are able to turn a dirty negative thing into art, and simultaneously reverse it and help the environment
Hi
Dude i just saw a kid shove a firecracker up his ass i don't think this kind of stuff makes up for how destructive and stupid humans are
liligman preach
TheActualHamez Well they are just kids, but i guess its also a sign of failed parenting too
liligman what you just said is beautiful 😢
I love how creative he is to produce artworks from these toxins
My problem is that this could be far more useful for refining. We wouldn't have to mine more and by the amount of iron in these waterways, this could be extremely useful.
I love it so much

I find the honor and wonder between some artists and scientists to be really heartwarming, the feeling of mutual respect that's characterized by a "I have no idea how you do that, I could never do that" frame of mind on both sides, IDK I guess it just shows that you can be completely different and still respect each other and still work together and be that much better for it
why does this channel not have more subs
Cam spread the word :)
Cam stfu and be apart of the solution
The channel has 1.4 M subscribers. Do you consider that too few?
this is amazing holy shit i love seeing science and art come together to help people

It kind of pisses me off too though. Artists and engineers cleaning up after industrialists with political organizations taking. But who's the drain on the economy again? It makes my blood boil whoever improperly sealed the mine (& reaped profits from the earth!) isn't held accountable to fund the cleanup.
Hes not making acrylic paint tho hes making oil paint, he even says oil paint. Acrylic paint involves using a plastic medium instead of the oil. Also if anyones wondering if the paint is toxic, yes it is but a lot of artist paints are but only if you inhale pigment, swallow the paint/pigment, or apply it to large areas of your skin for extended periods. Artist grade paints are usually toxic to that extent which is why you should buy them for children or for applying to skin, always buy child safe paints and body paints for those respective purposes.

shouldn't*
How do you know so much about paint toxicity/toxins?
@@idkwashitape178 if you're an artist working with paints, you'd best know what you're working with, what with colors like cadmium yellow and lead white
God your such a cinnamon roll
This video gives us a glimpse of hope for humanity. Then the one thumb down, so far, by a toxin lover among us who likes his or her streams red and wants to keep it that way!

I didn't dislike tho
A subliming moment to see an art that was beyond. Nothing to say more or less, just an amazing masterpiece conveying such meaningful message...
Love the collaboration towards sustainability & viability! Such a beautiful partnership featured here!

You guys deserve so much more subscribers
Oh, really?? This process is so amazing 😮 I was inspired after watching this ❤️
I love great big story, i am a huuuge pessimist but this channel makes me think that maybe the world isnt so bad afterall...
this is incredible and sad. so glad there are people working to heal the environment and creative people making art from their waste while also raising awareness for the cause. so sad that those waterways and ecosystems are damaged possibly near repair.
It's interesting to see that he is actually painting with acrylics (at least in the video), though the pigments are used in oils. I'm guessing that's a commercial viability thing? I was hoping I could get my hands on some of that acrylic paint, if they made it. Fascinating and beautiful work they're doing.
I used him for my IB art comparative study as one of my inspirations.
I love these videos, this chanel makes the best.

Are there other polution problems that can have good outcomes like this, or do you people think this was a one and only situation?
Warwolf 1 I'm sure there are plenty of problems that could turn out so beautifully, we just need more people willing to look for the creative solutions
I was so exited to find out that this is where my grandmother lives

A good pigment will have permanence.
Great big story is the best channel on CZcams, I love their videos so muchhhhh
it would be sad, but foolish if someone ate that paint
simply amazing
What are thier names
I honestly meant you were talking about lead white, some radium, and radiation green shit... good think it's not those types of toxins...
Where these artists the ones that created the album cover Of Blossom by Milky Chance?
It’s amazing how he turned something deadly and made it into something beautiful
The artist looks high af
This would have been way more interesting had he actually told us how he extracted the pigment, rather than just sending it to a lab.
WHO ARE THESE STUPID, HEARTLESS 11 PEOPLE WHO DISLIKED THIS VIDEO!?
I TRUST ONLY NON-TOXIC PAINTS
Couldn't you reuse this by using pressure to turn this back into iron
amazing
but is it still a toxin to humans?? Paint fumes and all that?
Mandy E yes. so is lead based paint
Mandy E I'm pretty sure there's glass covering it
Well if it is by and large just iron in oil, then it depends on the oil (could just be linseed), but still unless you're drinking it etc then not really
This deserves a tip from my fadora.
Hey! Art can be dangerous too
I blame Ford for this
What?! I live in Ohio, how did I not know about this???

What an amazing idea, good for the 🌏= happiness for me
O H
This type of initiative should be taken on whole world wide basis.if we indians extract colour from polluted water i am pretty sure that colour will be black. It might be useful in books or news paper just suggesting.
as someone who lives in Ohio, i can confirm that the streams are this dirty. i don't think i've ever seen clean water that is natural.
HA! Take that Trump!
