  • Tuning the idle settings on a Holley Terminator X-equipped 1991 Foxbody Mustang. Idle air control (IAC) settings aren't very intuitive for manual transmission Mustangs with the pulse width modulated (PWM) idle air control motor.

    I had a factory ford IAC on my mustang and I never was happy with it on my terminator x so I purchased the accufab adapter with GM IAC and it works soooooo well it took me a year to figure it out the IAC would never be consistent and coming to a stop my idle would drop below Target RPM and slowly recover (ford pwm IAC) I did everything possible to figure it out until I was on Holley's forum and read you have to flip two of the wire's on the Holley 4pin IAC Plug because Holley's harness is wired for Holley/Chrysler IAC.

      This an auto trans? Make sure your IAC is working. With the engine idling, unplug the IAC motor. If it stalls, then the IAC is working. If nothing changes the IAC is not working. Let me know on that ASAP.

    I’ve seen on other post and the directions of the term x that you have to go into the program select pwm in the soft ware and then you have to select it in I/o and drag it to the b3 pin for the iac to even work. Did you do this before making this video?

    Do you know can you adjust fuel compensation settings from the handheld or does this need to be done from a laptop? Just started the car for the first couple times idle ls rich and the fuel compensatio is -50 which is the default I think.

    • @Mustang-Geek
      @Mustang-Geek  Před 3 lety

      I recall you can do it from the handheld. You can adjust the desired A/F ratio at idle. However, if the car is still rich, but the Terminator is taking out a lot of fuel, something else is wrong. Make sure you have the right injectors selected, the MAP sensor is hooked up to manifold vacuum, etc.

      2 things 1st make sure the iac is set correctly. And then check in the actual tune file(you will need your laptop) that output 4 is set to pwm. Alot of them were not and this had to manually done. I got one of the first batches and it wasnt linked.

    I've got a 5L with a aod on it. What do yall recommend for iac parked position. I can get it to start but sometimes it takes two cranks. Also, what's going on with your fuel pump prime or that first fuel shot while cranking? Do you like more fuel or kinda how these systems come stock?

    • @Mustang-Geek
      @Mustang-Geek  Před 9 měsíci

      Honestly, I just left the fuel prime alone. Never touched it. I'd experiment with IAC park position and see how it runs *just* after it fires. Is the idle high or low?

      The idle is perfect after it starts. When I'm in traffic it idles 25 rpm high but I'm not mad about that. I'll try leaving all the fuel stuff alone and playing with iac parked. Thanks man!

    Everybody wondering why your fox still runs like ass after doing all of this. Can the Can bus plug from holley for 60 bucks and a laptop with windows. Download Holley terminator x software and change your IAC to PWM in the settings and drag PWM to the outputs. Night and day difference and car runs like a dream. You can only do so much with the handheld. The laptop is definitely what you need to get it right.

    • @Mustang-Geek
      @Mustang-Geek  Před 3 lety +1

      The IAC is supposed to be set up as PWM from the factory. However, some people have had an issue where it's not set to PWM automatically, which will require hooking up a laptop and setting the IAC to PWM. If your IAC doesn't work AT ALL, it probably needs to be set to PWM using the software.
