I can’t tell you how many times I came across a dope ass DC figure and told myself that I could just get one, that’s not a big deal. Thankfully, so far I’ve been able to talk myself out of it before actually buying it. Because deep down I know that I’m just digging a new rabbit hole that’s only gonna get bigger and bigger.. then this awesome guy here is showing me how badass all these MK figures look on display and my gears are turning. As a collector of all things MK since the early 90s, i personally think it's the nostalgia factor. Me and pretty much every boy i grew up with desperately wanted figures of the original Mortal Kombat characters and the old GI Joe and Toy Island figures just didn't do it. They were too 'Gi JOE' and not enough 'Mortal Kombat', if that makes any sense. They just didn't look enough like the game/comic characters to appease us. I remember asking my mom for 2 Ninja Shadow figures from the old Kenner 'The Shadow' toyline based on the movie of the same name. She bought me 2 of them and i turned them into an accurate Scorpion and Subzero with construction paper and markers. lol. That's just an example of what I did as a kid to make these characters.
    Throughout the years, many companies have made MK figures, but none of them have made any characters outside of the main 5 or 6. To add to the disappointment, the figures were pretty much always representations of the 'current' game character designs, but never the classics. Jazwares came along around 2011/2012 and gave us some hope, but... nope... they cut it short before completing the roster and the only classic versions were a 6" ninja boxed set with the MK1/MK2 designs and a 4" ninja boxed set with the MK3/Ultimate MK designs. Then it got cancelled.
    Then, after so many disappointments, here comes a company we'd never heard of; Storm Collectibles... and they were advertising highly-articulated, game-accurate CLASSIC versions of Scorpion and SubZero. I was hesitant to get them because I didn't want to put more effort into a line that would eventually disappoint me like all the others had in the past. But, i bought the first 2 and i've been hooked ever since.
    The nostalgia factor is heavy with these, with the classic MK2/MK3 designs. My inner 90's child jumps for joy every time i get a new one. They're what i wanted all those years ago but couldn't have because no one would make them. So, for me, it's the nostalgia and appreciation for the classic designs.
    I just hope they'll give us sonya, jax, kano, shang tsung, mileema, kitana, and johnny cage. Those are NEEDED to make this line feel complete. If they deny us those essential characters, then they will be just another failure in my personal opinion.
    The McFarlane line is great too, but mainly because i feel they'll complete the roster... i'm starting to doubt that Storm will complete it, unfortunately. They take way too long to release a new MK figure here and there, and they don't seem to have any interest in doing the main human characters and villains. That's my only complaint.

    • @DisplayingModelBehaviour
      @DisplayingModelBehaviour  Před 3 lety +2

      Man thank you for such a great comment. You know your Mortal Kombat. I have the similar fear that we might not see the full set from Storm. We don't need everyone, just the 1 and 2 roster are the essential ones. Since Kung Lau is out soon and we've seen prototypes of Liu Kang and Kitana I have high hopes we'll finish the set!

    @aFoxyFox. Před 3 lety +1

    I really thoroughly enjoyed this video and seeing all these great Storm Figures! Motaro is one of the most unique figures anyone can have in their collection probably! I like that Baraka face a lot, but his original design, like the costume and stuff, is a little bland to me, and I prefer if something is going to be simple, that it is more like Shao Khan's simplicity, a kind of Barbaric or "Heroic" (as in ancient Greek Heroes and Giants) simplicity. The Baraka fangs and face would make for a great Vampire figure, maybe if one dressed him up a little differently even, but the costume he is in can work as well!
    Argh! Speaking of Storm Vampires, I just missed a bid for a cheap Demitri from Darkstalkers by Capcom! While watching these videos! So sometimes these videos actually save me from spending money, other times they get us looking for things we might have never thought of or known about! Hopefully it will become available again, I liked how massive it looked in front of some other figures, also shown off by a D Amazing video.
    The ending of this video with the Mortal Kombat with the dogs and cats was really funny haha! Also I liked how the figures looked when they all fell even, and they seem pretty sturdy overall.
    I really liked the Shao Kahn and that the helmet is removable, the Motaro (will you be getting Kintaro?), the Baraka, even the masked Sub Zero. I loved the Cyrax as well, I often used to play as him and enjoyed getting Smoke also. I've also gotten some McFarlane Mortal Kombat figures, including the Raiden he came out with which might be an evil Raiden or something with green and gold, some guy called Noob which I got blood splattered since I thought it might look like a cool butcher horror monster character, and bloody and non bloody Kabal. In another series made by a different company, I also got Kotal Kahn, possibly multiple versions of that, but he is sort of small compared to some of these.
    I wonder what McFarlane Mortal Kombat figures look like compared to Storm Mortal Kombat figures! Via the Genie of the Internet: czcams.com/video/422tpC1R-RQ/video.html wow, it looks like the McFarlane are a little bigger than some of these! That is so interesting. I am receiving a McFarlane two pack of Shao Kahn (I prefer spelling it Shao Khan like Genghis Khan) with a weird green costumed Sub-Zero, because I didn't like the gold and red individual version of Shao Kahn from McFarlane.
    I'm considering a non-bloody Noob Saibot also. The blood on the Kabal somehow doesn't look all that great to me compared to how the blood is appearing on the mostly dark or black Noob Saibot figure from McFarlane. It is interesting to see how they are actually slightly bigger looking than these Storm Figures. I might be more accepting of the higher price for these figures if they were even larger, and I've mostly focused on the ones that seem larger to me while being roughly the same price as other smaller ones from them.czcams.com/video/Ma2jYnt_YG0/video.html oh yeah, that giant Shao Kahn from Storm looks a lot better to me, plus I like the more traditional appearance.
    For your collection, would you like any of the female Mortal Kombat characters? I'm thinking Queen Sindel and Mileena might be fun, maybe D'Vorah who could double as some kind of Marvel super villain. I'd like someone to make Kano and Shang Tsung, I even liked Nightwolf who could come with some cool accessories and mini figures possibly, his animal buddies. Lots of fun stuff, but that character might not be all too popular or well known, it is more likely to come from Storm possibly than McFarlane though, as McFarlane seems to be making mostly the newer designs. I have Marvel Legends Warpath though which can be basically the same character. So many cool designs, I think you could make more Mortal Kombat videos (I called it Marvel Kombat for a second, but that is a good idea for a video too!) that discuss desired characters, maybe you have already!

      @aFoxyFox. Před 3 lety

      @@DisplayingModelBehaviour Oh you're right! Sheeva is totally the one that would look awesome in your collection! Yeah, definitely, and that shouldn't even be too difficult for them to make, and would be really unique and fun.
      I've been thinking about my time playing those Mortal Kombat games since I was very little, haha I complain about how kids are being left alone to be on the internet and might see all kinds of bad stuff, but then what the heck was I doing playing Mortal Kombat all day and going to the arcade and playing Aliens games and then at home trying to get all the different fatalities and stuff haha, I loved it though, and even my family seemed to love Mortal Kombat lol, and the song when the film came out, my mother and I used to exercise with that and then later do stuff like Tae Bo with that music lol and say "Mortal Kombat!" to each other in that voice haha,
      it was a big hit and so many people seemed to accept it, I would show the different sorts of weird things in Mortal Kombat to my sister, like Babalities and stuff lol which I'd really like some weird accessories for, alternative heads and bodies for figures performing the moves or even semi transparent glowing animal accessories for their Animality transformations, haha, Totems were like a big thing at the time almost, even Metal Gear Solid mentioned them (and I was thinking Storm would be a nice company to try to make Metal Gear Solid figures, I can really imagine a Vulcan Raven made by them in their style and they seem to really like Muscle guys a lot.
      I had long associated myself with the Coyote and the Fox, and then when I saw the character Gray Fox, which I spelled Grey Fox, I think I've been using variations of names with Fox in it since then! Every Mortal Kombat 3 had a kind of spirit animal form i.ytimg.com/vi/MYvv64CEnc4/hqdefault.jpg they tried to incorporate it into the 1997 film czcams.com/video/-K1yDbA9YmQ/video.html lol czcams.com/video/G78TpcyLaSc/video.html
      and oh yeah, for your display, I saw this set on Ebay of the dark floating monk guys that were in the background sometimes i.ebayimg.com/images/g/ssMAAOSwgzVfzCU8/s-l1600.jpg you might be able to find something better or garb some cheaper figures in something if you ever wanted those guys to somehow be around (maybe even a bunch of Emperor Palpatine cloaked molds around lol),
      it reminds me of the "Tainted Coil Druids" from the game "Brutal Legend" and many other similar tropes, where a magical warlord sorcerer Emperor guy is surrounded by various cloaked or mysterious seeming religious looking figures, I guess maybe that was sort of based on the Return of the Jedi even, and they gave Thanos at least one character like that in the films marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/The_Other
      but it seems to be a widespread trope that I might like, or maybe I like the consistency of it, appearing in so many different things, so that apparently every evil gigantic hulking Warlord King messing around with magic and sorcery has a bunch of these magicians around him goldenaxe.fandom.com/wiki/Magician
      possibly even based on Pharaoh in the Bible or something, and then one central evil sorcerer at his side, which would be Shang Tsung in this case, and Queen Sindel as a kind of mixture of the captured Queen or Princess against her will and the evil sorceress or witch in appearance, like Skeletor and Evil-Lyn, these sorts of images keep repeating a lot in stuff,
      and usually the Warlord guy has some kind of mixed allegiance "Daughters" like Thanos and Gamora and Nebula or Kitana in Mortal Kombat or even She-Ra with Hordak and Shadow Weaver, and even in Voltron with the Emperor Zarkon and Haggar i.pinimg.com/originals/fa/56/fd/fa56fd73b0993014196b7cff28e97f39.jpg if you ever watched Voltron, you might consider watching and comparing the older memories of Voltron to the newer Voltron show that Netflix released for another possible video, but it might be too boring for you!
      Often, there is also a "Prince" of some sort too, like in Castlevania there is Alucard, Voltron there is Prince Lotor (who seems to be based on Elric of Melnibone) i.pinimg.com/736x/4a/ef/ff/4aefff0a912c81b3c676fd242081f351--first-crush-s-toys.jpg and pbs.twimg.com/media/C5y_Zu3XQAUX8Ae.jpg:large and i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/hostedimages/1429718651i/14623643.jpg
      So in this case that would be muc.fandom.com/wiki/Kahn_Family "2 Rain: We all seem to think Rain is actually son of King Jerrod, but once Jerrod was killed he become Shao's son, right? Rain also called himself "Prince of Edenia"" mortalkombat.fandom.com/wiki/Rain so whoever that guy is lol, apparently he started out in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 "Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is a fighting game in the Mortal Kombat series, released in arcades in 1995. It is an update of Mortal Kombat 3 and later received its own update in the form of the console-only Mortal Kombat Trilogy.",

      Part 2
      oh wow, we really need to get hold of that trilogy haha, so many fond memories! Even talking about all this right now and saying we need to get hold of it is giving me weird deja vu, as if I had a dream of this long ago or something before you even made this channel lol Nintendo 64 Mortal Kombat Trilogy!
      Wow, that sounds like enough reason to get hold of an old Nintendo 64 or something haha, I haven't played any of the Mortal Kombat games since maybe the 90s or something, but they left such an impression forever, have been referred to by me and even my family forever lol, they were such a huge part of the general public knowledge and pop culture of the time somehow.

      If I said "Scorpion" and "Get Over Here" lol my whole family would remember and know what I was talking about haha in the United States where I grew up, the Mortal Kombat Ninjas were also a big Halloween costume, though I always liked to be unique sorts of weird and obscure things, but everyone seemed to be dressed as this or that Ninja so often.
      So many Giant Warlords to collect. Even Shredder has a daughter and there seem to be similar tropes involved with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the "Silver Samurai" from Marvel and a bunch of stuff! I had almost totally forgotten about all that stuff, or all the various Fatalities and funny stuff in Mortal Kombat, particularly Mortal Kombat 3 which seemed maybe the most jokey of the games with graphics and backgrounds and ideas that really impressed me, gosh I liked it so much and played it so much as well, right at home!

      I loved also that it seemed to be lighthearted and that the game designers seemed to like to surprise and entertain the player, like it felt a lot more close to the audience in many ways, like they were reaching out to provide people with these little jokes and pranks and whatever, a feeling I don't get at all from modern games which seem so much more distant and remote from the players, with a big gap between the designers and their communication to the players, it is kind of weird, it was like there was a smaller gap between the designers and the players or artists and audience in the media of the past as compared to currently (even though a lot of the time they are on social media now).

      Even "They Might Be Giants" had like a hot line number people could call to hear songs and stuff or something, lol gosh, I was so happy in the 90s what the heck! Ignorance was truly bliss, everything seemed a lot more innocent, I loved the music, the comedy seemed a lot better with people like Conan O'Brien in the U.S.A. and Mystery Science Theatre 3000 making fun of films and great video games, Arcades (I can't even find Arcades anymore and all the fun old games which are fun to this day are barely available anywhere). It seems like things started getting slightly worse towards the end of the 90s, but then really consistently worse throughout the 2000s, and then even worse from 2009 or so, and argh!
      It is so nice that your content frequently brings up all these wonderful things, I'm not even sure many people who were too little or from after that time could even understand how impactful that period was for us and that specific kind of enjoyment, I would find it hard to believe any of the stuff they grew up with later on during the dark times (lol) would ever give the same feelings, because I was still pretty young during that stuff and it was already apparent to me that the newer stuff was seemingly getting worse and less enjoyable, and I was already wanting to go back.
      Even just watching the old games like on the Shadowserg boss fight videos, even if I haven't even seen or played those games, it is immediately clear to me how perfectly simple and beautiful and pleasing they were, like they totally hit the right spot visually, the sound, everything, and I think people would absolutely love to play them and enjoy them even to this day, no matter how silly or outdated people think it is.
      I've seen videos where they are destroying beautiful traditional homes and architecture in Japan czcams.com/video/i1DP5xpM3Y8/video.html in favor for totally ugly utilitarian cramped buildings with no charm whatsoever, so there seems to be a kind of spirit of greed or something that is also contributing to so much ugliness and the eradication of whatever made things seem so much more fun in the past.
      People are seemingly taking for granted beauty, or have forgotten how simple things would need to be to be "cool" and satisfying, or playful in their corniness, like even the Mortal Kombat games have become these long boring dramas from what I've seen and have lost a lot of their "stupid" kind of charm, trying to be big soap operas rather than just a collection of mysterious story with gaps for our imaginations to get activated by, that is willing to be ridiculous without actually making fun of itself in the way things seem to do now,
      it was like some kind of better combination of elements, it managed to be serious or even scary while being silly and not actually trying hard to make itself a joke, it was an amazing achievement, I haven't seen anything like it really in modern things, maybe the last things that were like that were still things from close enough in time like Metal Gear Solid stuff and Silent Hill stuff. It was sort of the way of the 90s though, that things had a humor about them while still being serious enough or with high stakes and not actually making itself seem like a total joke or waste of time.
      With such a simple story, and a few backgrounds and things, they conveyed this story that I could sort of actually feel, of how Earth is being attacked and destroyed and these heroes are in a devastating battle for their lives which is really difficult against these extremely violent monsters, and there was still room for ridiculousness that still had an impact that felt like an accomplishment.
      When I play modern games (which is barely ever) I can scarcely feel anything, it seems so disconnected and almost like the game is playing by itself and I'm barely involved or contributing, whereas when I tried to play older games again, even really old games with terrible graphics, I felt so much more involved.

      It is like the graphics barely matter, or are a distracting over-kill or something, and all the drama feels like these characters are just doing their own thing and aren't even me really. So strange and different, but nothing changed in me, since those old games work exactly the same on me as they did originally, whereas the new ones never seem to hit the right spot. So those older designers really deserve a tremendous amount of praise for their real achievements which I think might be somewhat overlooked or taken for granted entirely by people today.
      The toys today though are a lot better in some ways than the toys of the past, but the toys of the past sometimes have better visual appeal to me, better colors, design elements, fun little gimmicks, and I think they should look back and take into account those sorts of appearances and update them in more beautiful forms, but the colors were great in older things and a lot of the time are being dulled down more or like people are feeling embarrassed or something and trying to make things "cool" and "toned down" to excess.

      Even visually in some of the new games I can barely see what is going on, just like the films, they are often so dark and dim and just a mess of ugly graphics jumbled together. I think it is almost necessary that creative people like yourself succeed and somehow start putting together and making artistic things that remind people and "teach em' how its done", because you've often brought up similar points and issues, and seemingly no one is putting their efforts towards making much of anything to try to remedy the drought in what people actually seem to still want or would love (which they might not even know, since they were born after that older stuff became less fashionable).
      They haven't even seemingly abandoned the tropes or anything, it is just "Here is everything again, but worse, and harder to visually distinguish" "Studies have shown that if the audience can't actually see the monster, they are less likely to be able to make fun of it.".

    I love this line, but it's something I'm only ever gonna admire from afar and never own for two reasons.
    First, they're too expensive for me and I'm already torn between Black Series, Legends and a few import lines (Bring Arts, SH figuarts, Playarts). If I even picked up one, it'd avalanche into needing another to fight, then so on till I gotta sell my soul.
    Secondly, and this may sound silly, the scale doesn't do it for me, I like mixing lines at times and these guys are just a bit too big.
    But Storm does good shit, and if their Soulcalibur (Essentially my MK) line is as good as these, I might break my two rules.
