I'm damn near 40 years old and I am still putting my plants out too early. I can't resist the itch after being cooped up all winter.
Me too.... you can keep doing it. It's easy. Look up how to build a little plastic dome on top of your garden bed with some half-inch PVC pipe. Just keep putting it out early. I actually start fertilizing everything in February. It's horrible. This year I got ripe blueberries in Tennessee by the end of April.... lol. I almost killed some plants by fertilizing way too early and waking everything up. But hey... screw it. Lol
Just figure out how to build a dome and double line it with bedsheets or plastic and put things out as early as you want :)
@@lifeisgood070i got a couple cheap greenhouses at lidl. When I donât need the clear covers, Iâm gonna use insect netting đ I got one that stand up and one that covers the ground â¤â¤â¤â¤â¤
You need a mini green house. I realize i do this too and build a mini greenhouse just in case it get cold.
Play the odds! Just have some spare đ
i hear ya !
Am 70 and have kept a personal & garden journal for years. In 2017 we moved into the mountains (zone 3) my garden journal helps on some things now - but my newer one is priceless! Whole new ball game on the mountain :) But, a journal is a wonderful tool for the garden. I also keep track of the weather each day too. Good video kiddo-thanks
Great idea. I'm going to start a journal immediately after finishing this video. I always think I'll remember what I do in the garden and of course I rarely do!
I started in 2009 with my journal. I also do the temp and rainfall but started this year with any interesting birds that visit! So glad I started it!
gardening teaches humility, just when you "think" you figured it out, along comes a new set of challenges, either diseases or pests or human error, gardening keeps you humble
I love how passionate you are about your precious space and stewarding the land. đ beautiful
Tuck, king of the garden â¤â¤â¤
Bizarre.
The Young King âĽď¸đđ¤đ
He definitely knows what he likes! We had a cat that loved cantaloupe, watermelon and cucumbers, he was one of a kind. Miss that rascal Bobby.
@@EYES2seeEARS2hear78we had one that loved eating green pepper plants!
â¤â¤â¤â¤â¤â¤â¤â¤for my little freind
Hi Tuck! Welcome back to garden season 2024! So good to see you again! â¤â¤
James & Tuck, you guys always bring a smile to my face!
â¤â¤â¤â¤â¤ For the master gardener, Tuck. My poor garden, everything is gowing like weeds. My tomato plants are already waist high, flowering, and setting fruit. The cucumbers, squash, cantaloupe, and peppers are flowering and fruiting too. I just harvested mustard about ten days ago, and now it is ready for a second harvest, and my Swiss chard is ready too. Everything is about a month ahead of schedule. Alabama, 7B. My transplents went into the ground between April 6th, and April 9th.
Hi James , for the first time, I have placed down wood chips in my garden as an experiment. I was inspired to do so by viewing your channel. Thank you. I am Spamming the hearts down below for Tuck.â¤â¤â¤â¤â¤â¤â¤â¤â¤â¤â¤â¤â¤.
Tuck is so adorable!!!
â¤TUCK! Yes, patience! I saw so many people buying the wrong soil, complaining about weather not being sunny enough to plant out seedlings, and basically not knowing how to choose proper plants in the garden center today. I wish I could help them all, but the few I do makes me hopeful for their summer gardens.
In my late 70's and not really able to garden much anymore. But I tune in to enjoy your sunny personality and, of course, Tuck. Keep up the good work encouraging and entertaining the rest of us.
King Tuck
You are so right about timing, garden in the Southern hemisphere, we have had 3 years of mild winter's, a frost last weekend reminded that we do get severe frosts. When its a mild winter you can plant the cold harder stuff in August, but a more frosty winter wait until September for our area.
Love that Terra Cotta color on raised beds.
Me too!!!!
â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸for Tuck! Heâs the king of rne garden! We demand his presenceđđđź! Love all of your videos! God bless!

I am watching your videos everytime you upload something and been watching you since I came here in Wisconsin from Philippines I really love watching it cuz I don't have any idea gardening in this country I don't even know what are Zones are. So I have a garden 4 years already but because we are just poor farmers I can't afford how you make your garden beautiful. you really inspired me I love planting and growing â¤
â¤â¤
A little bit at a time.
You can have a garden with very little expense. Not very many gardeners have a lot of money.
@@cynthiafisher9907 That's for sure. We live on under $2000 a month and a garden is extremely important to us. When we started, our income was just about $1000.
Tuck is the coolest garden buddy!
â¤â¤â¤'s for Tuck as always
Perfect timing, James. Transplanting peas and beans today, strawberries tomorrow.
New gardener here!
Did you plant your strawberries from seed or did you buy seedlings?
@@proudboxermom3104 I buy live plants at my local greenhouse. Everything else I start from seed. Good luck!
Thanks to James and Tuck, I will not longer be a foolish gardeneir. Thanks Tuck and James. :)
We have had a lot of rain and temperatures into the high 40âs at night. We are past frost, but I waited to put out my tomatoes. I have to wait until next week for peppers, until night temperatures are consistently above 55 degrees. I havenât seen such a cool and moist May in a long time. My neighborâs gardens have been wiped out by slugs. Glad I avoided that. My tomatoes and peppers will make up the time when the sun comes out.
You and Tuck are so upbeat! Where did you find the purple mustard seed?
I believe that is Japanese Giant Red Mustard. Seed available from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds
â¤Tuck looks like my girl Yorkie she love vegetables toođ
Yes on transplanting too early. Also on the other end covering and clothing and then a sunny day comes and they get cooked bc you forget or didnât have time to run and uncover them midday.
I always even put cucumber seeds in early May and got great plants (zone 8b).
Hardening off death so very true. I used to grow and sell tomatoes. I taught ppl how to harden off but l sadly watched plants I sold be planted in full sun immediately and the plant die. Tomatoes need to be transplanted in natural conditions when itâs 50 at night and no colder and the hardening off needs to happen first for several weeks from new seedlings.
Also agree on shady day planting to let them acclimate rather than blasting them on a sunny day.
đđđđđđ Love to see Tuck in the garden!
You are amazing. I learned alot from every video. You can be a teacher.
Amazing we plant and God gives the growth. I know we sweat but it is all worthwhile.
Thank you.
Thank God.
Your "god" should spend some time helping victims of war around the world & leave the garden to Mother Nature.
I love ALL The Gardening Channel With James Prigioni videos!

You made the points I shared with my Arizona bestie. I live in Washington, but rules for picking a plant to buy and how to not stress out plants when planting them is something everyone needs to learn. Especially newbies at gardening. I put photos of her raised bed she built on CZcams under Community. No idea why they donât just call it âPhotos.â đ
â¤ď¸ Tuck KING of the garden ! đđ˝đ
This is my 2nd year gardening. I live in NY and the weather is very unpredictable this year. Still cold, but at least starting in the 60âs & 70âs some days at noon. Nights are still pretty cold, but now getting in the 40âs & 50âs. Your right patience is important & timing. Even though I am tempted to transplant, I know I have to wait & transition to hardening the tropical plants. đ
Donât want all my hard work to be in vain. This year I am planting more varieties vegetables . Already planted potatoes & carrots outside few weeks after last frost. They have germinated and I have sprouts for the carrots, so excited. Going to start hardening off the tomatoes & peppers for a few days starting next week. Thanks for the advice! Very important for us newbie gardeners! đđ
Thatâs so funny your dog loves his healthy garden snacks đđ I love how much dogs love gardening as much as we do â¤
it makes me happy your lovely little dog is spoiled so well!!
Thank you for all the tips Tucker and James! đđ
Those little self watering planters are adorable!!
what are the strings for in his garden.
I could be wrong, but maybe a grid to divide sections for easier planting and straight rows.â@@dawsoncolleen
@jeanbean1390 thankyou, but i cant get a message from the gardener

Awesome garden informational video as always. I love the huge ego bed with the protective covering . My Jack-doodle and Tuck would be best buddies as they enjoy the same vegetable snacks in the garden. Jack-doodle even enjoys georgia collard greens !
Thanks for the tips, James. I plan to transplant some of my seedlings out into the garden tomorrow, so this video was right on time. (Hearts for the cutie pie, Tuck â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸)
You have very good points. I made the mistake of planting my corn on March 22 instead of April 7 like I did last year. We then stayed cool and moist and half of my corn didn't germinate and I had to re-plant more. Plants are very temperature driven. Thanks for your channel!
This intro just never gets old!! Love it
Tuck, we love you! â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸.... You too James!
Lol I was overly excited this year. I started plants end of February. I let them sit inside for a long time. I recently put them in the ground. Maybe a week or 2 ago. I throw a frost blanket over my plants when it dips below 50. My stuff seems OK so far. I just started a second sow of plants for my self just in case these don't work out. My first year gardening. I've always had herbs, I've spent thousands of dollars wasting money on plants and stuff for growing plants over the years just to have it eaten by deer and other animals. Now this year I built a 40ftx3ft fenced in raised bed system and I'm excited to finally have plants. I also am working on fencing a large area around my chicken coop for my chickens to roam and I don't have to worry as much. Going to do pumpkins in that and I have herbs that always do good over there. Also chopped a few trees down and had someone come with a machine to clear out behind my garage which I might fence in that large are and put in a green house. This year, to get it going I threw down wild flower seeds, some herbs and bunching onions and alium down to hopefully deter the deer issue I have. I'm keeping up on the deer repellent this year to get things established. I also did a couple packets of corn and pumpkins back there to see what happens. We will see. Really enjoying your tips and videos. Hoping I can become a better gardener with more knowledge. Not new to the scene, been around gardens my whole life with my Italian family. I'm super excited though so I definitely jumped the gun. Can't wait.
20 seconds in, and I absolutely love this guy. a true king
âĽâĽâĽ Hearts for Tuck... the vegie dog! LOL
Thanks James and King Tuck!! You've helped me be patient to not plant too soon.

I just planted my tomatoes that I started in January. They have been very happy and one even has a little tomato on it (not just a flower) I did the same thing last year and they got massive! So maybe seeing flowers isnât always a bad thing.

Thank you for this helpful video!
I just started a journal for this year. Everything you tell us is valuable I've learned so much and I'm using it as I go into this year's garden. Thank You and Tuck for the lesson to carry us forward.
This year, I had 4 days of drizzle and clouds in a row. So I didn't harden my cabbage and just put them in the containers. 2 weeks later, that look amazing.
Love your videos. I'm a farmer's wife who loves gardening and have learned lots from your videos :)
Thank you James itâs great information đ

I live in Zone 3B.. almost Zone 4.. I planted 6 cucumbers one year, and seeded more in between the the plants. The seeds caught up, even over took the growth of the potted plants ! I now only start Cuc's by seed right in the garden. They will grow 'when they want to' !

I usually wait till the 3rd week of May to plant out in northeast ohio; however, the weather has been so good and the 10 day forecast looks great that this past week seems like a great time to plant. I'm risking it this year for the first time in like 10-15 years!
