If anyone thinks Oregon cost of living is less than Lubbock Texas cost of living, they are clearly delusional.
Their math is delusional. 😂
Dave called that out. That’s either what her in-laws or husband said to justify the move.
As someone whose lived in both TX and OR. These plp are on crack if they think Oregon has a lower cost of living
Before Ramsey we bought a 30K car 10 years ago. Now we're driving a 3K car! (it's the same car, lol!)

@@aolvaar8792 That's so awesome! Geesh back in 1980, I had a relative who was widowed and sold her husband's '57 red and white chevy hard top convertible. It still looked great and it ran just fine! She got a whopping 300 bucks for it!! 😵💫🥴😭🤡
That's my plan. Buy a new car in cash and drive it for 10 years until it collapses beyond repair.

Finance and Business books have been so helpful. I’m 55 and my wife 50 we are both retired with over $3 million in net worth and no debts. Currently living smart and frugal with our money. No longer putting blames on FED for our misfortunes. Saving and investing lifestyle in the stock market made it possible for us this early, even till now we earn weekly.
You have done great for yourselves. I understand the fact that tomorrow isn't promised to anyone, but investing today is a hard thing to do for me now because I have no idea of how and where to invest in. I would be happy if you could advise me based on how you went about yours, as I am ready to go the passive income path.
That is so amazing, I’m trying to get onto the housing ladder at 40. I wish at 55 I will be testifying to similar success.
Credits to STEPHANIE KOPP MEEKS, she saw me through the process. You can glance her name up on the internet and verify her yourself. she has years of financial market experience.

They obviously want to live in a place with mild weather and beautiful scenery, and not a place with suffocating heat and humidity, and flat. dull scenery

@@vicepresidentmikepence889There's a reason why Lubbock is called the Panhandle of Texas.

I'm from Lubbock (same city as caller) and you can buy a fixer upper for like 80-120k 😂
As an Oregonian I can't stop laughing at this
Right it ain’t cheap here anymore
I took a little trip to Seaside and Portland with my gf last week. Downtown Portland is like the walking dead. Haven't been there in 27 years. Shocked by what I saw: homeless everywhere, smell of urine and homeless everywhere, hardly any one walking around visiting, hardly any restaurants, bars or shops. Un-real. We visited east Portland and walked around, nothing much there either. Lot's of poor renters and empty, old shops. Vancouver, BC seems like heaven in comparison.
Right!? Aint no way Oregon is cheaper than west Texas. LMAO
LOL. So true. When I think of lower priced housing, Oregon is not on the top of my list as one of the best choices.

Where I worked we had married couples in the nicest big rigs I ever seen delivering Boeing 767/777/787 jet engines to the base.
They are there all day unloading and we have overnight/weekend parking areas for them.
I would go out there sometimes when I had nothing to do and talk to them.
Some of those cabs were almost as long as a school bus with all the comforts of home. Lights, custom paint jobs, chrome wheels, showers, kitchen, internet, etc.compartment for motorcycles, mini cooper,etc..
Couples were also retired,sister/brother,father/daughter,etc.. Some would have their kids or grand kids.
Very nice happy bunch.

She is probably a listener. Her husband is just a moron and the one making decisions.
Oregon is as expensive as Seattle.
40-60k HOUSEHOLD income and a vehicle loan of 30k?!
ZERO equity in anything. She has a bio degree and (relatively) low college debt, but she ...wants to be an EMT? And she bought herself a car?
It’s the average American now of days. Or it’s 80k income 60k truck
My cousin makes bout 100k.... also has bout 90k in two cars in debt!...bonkers! 😮 And he wonders why they always short on $ $,, and always renting, i swear some apartment complexes have the nicest cars in their driveways!

She will call back in two years and say that I called two years ago and we are in a mess in Oregon.
Did anyone else catch her say that her plan is go be an EMT, and then go to medical school? I’m rolling my eyes hard af. She’s being completely delusional and planning very far ahead into the future instead of trying to solve her present situation.
If she can’t even get herself to enroll in EMT school by September and is waiting until January than she clearly lacks ambition to make it in medical school.
I really have no idea how people live in such delusions
Agree. Especially when their total household income is so low
I’m not sure she’s oblivious so much as lazy and entitled. Expecting her husband to bump it up so she can keep sitting at home with the kids.

Fixer-uppers can really ding you. Plan on double the estimated price, and triple the estimated time. If you don't have the time and cash for that, don't do it.
“Here is our plan, it is a really bad plan, what do you think, and we are going to do it regardless of what you say.”
Edit:They should move to Oklahoma, not Oregon.
Her goal is that she wants to go to medical school? With her approach and discipline, homegirl is going to call back in 2-3 years with 400k in debt and dismissed without a degree.
WOW. College debt, and not working...yet shes scolding her husband for not making enough. Arrogence.
I live in Texas and currently visiting Oregon. Cost of living is not lower here. It is far more expensive. Gas here is $2.00 per Gallon and Food 35% higher. Rents are way higher here as well. Texas is one of the most affordable States to live. Many other reasons to want to live here, but lower cost is not one.
Do not buy a fixer upper if the requirement to afford the mortgage or construction loan is that the husband has to work all the time and therefore would never have the time or energy to do any of the repairs.
I think couples should call in together when coming to Dave with questions like this. They both need to hear the answer because one spouse may not communicate the suggestion as well as Dave.
I always imagined that they would just send a link of the video to the other spouse.
Red light going “error error error” 😂
I can't imagine Oregon is cheaper than Lubbock, TX. Wife needs a job taday. Fixer-upper = money pit.
In 2011, I bought an unmarketable Fannie Mae foreclosure for $50K,
2022 ~$500K
It cost me 2 days and $800 to make it marketable.

there's also state income tax in Oregon where there are none in Texas
These car salesmen sure know how to say the right words to get people to buy
That’s only half of the equation. If they think about their finance, they shouldn’t have bought.
Not really man all salesman got to do is make sure the monthly payment is affordable enough for the buyer. People just want better and nicer stuff

Dave: GOOD LORD! 😂 I said the same.
With a Biology degree, she could work in public health for the State as a scientist- and make way more money than as an EMT... and without the danger, trauma, or crazy shifts.
Also County level jobs, or a hospital laboratory.
SHE DON'T WANT TO WORK 😂😂😂... she talking about continuing education
She’s a perfect example of what most college grads are these days. She got a degree with zero plans. She put her energy into finding a husband, but now she loses sleep over debt! So… let’s spend more money on a crappy house, pay more money to move, accrue more interest on a student loan, and she mentioned going to medical school which starts at $100k+ if she can get in! At some point reality has to factor into this!

Accidently deleted my comment. Cost to move cross country will likely cost more than $3k, as it did for my move. I moved from Wa state to KS in September. Also, there are no cheap places to live in OR anymore. Even in the eastern part of the state, home prices are higher than elsewhere. Cost of living is higher there too.
Oregonians are doing the opposite of what she wants to do, for the same reason. Speaking as an Oregonian.
Yeah, I understand why someone may want out of TX, it's not for everyone. But these days Oregon wouldn't be at the top of my move-to list. Portland used to be such a nice place, I had friends there in the 80's. But times have changed. If they want to save on living expenses I'd take a close look at the midwest. The landscape isn't exotic but there are more opportunities there than people that dismiss it as fly over country realize. It may not be for them either, but if they do decide to move it would be good to look at the options and make an informed decision. Not just go with what uncle George says.
How about Idaho, that's a neighboring state and way cheaper. He can visit family in Oregon easily. Boise is right on the border with Oregon and is cheap to live minus the racism 😂

I would move to Oregon in a minute to get away from the heat!! You couldn't pay me enough to move to a hot as hell state like TX. I'll stay in Western WA.
As someone who lives in Oregon, this is the worst place I have ever lived😂
I can't believe someone would think that the cost of living in Lubbock, Texas is more than the cost of living in Oregon. Hubby wants to be close to mommy and daddy.
I thought Oregon’s cost of living is high ….
This caller is smart and kept Dave engaged because he was ready to push the hang up button a few times. 🙂
It doesn't hang up. It just mutes.

I live in Oregon. My advice is don't move here. It's a whole nother can of worms. Not sure trucking is the best job.
“Good lord!” 😅
Just like most other callers, she is not at all concerned about her debt, but she needs to be.
Unless his parents are footing the bill for a lot of this, it would be a silly choice.
Wait so she’s not contributing? Why doesn’t she have a job?
Because she wants to be a SAH mom.😂😂😂
She’s lazy.. Period!!!!!!
I can’t help but roll my eyes hearing her say that her husband needs to make the wise choice and take whatever job where he will never be home and how it won’t be comfortable because that’s the husbands duty while she stays at home. A full time income would multiply the cost of child care for one singular child if she really wants to pump up their money but seems ok to just have her husband working day and night to carry the load. If he doesn’t feel that it’s a team effort I’d be worried.
Their household income is 60k (yikes) and they have 40k in debt , practically zero savings & they are talking about buying house? Apparently they have never listened to the show.
Everybody needs to go to work and bring in the $$$
Yup. Maybe that's the reason for the move help with child care.
I have 3g in the bank and owe thousands should I buy a house? Dave should've hung up right there and then!!!
The fact they want him to work more is baffling to me. He's not a machine and there's no relationship if he isnt home
They didn't say he had to. But she sure does.
"But that's what husband's do" sorry not sorry
@bygone8676 I'm not having my husband work to death. I didn't sign up to be a single wife.
Please understand I'm not saying the husband shouldn't work but what quality of life is it if you don't spend time together
@essbenita Truck drivers are away from home. That's the way it is. Don't like it? Don't be a trucker. I do know some truckers who take a kid with them every so often. The kids love it!!
We both worked and we had kids. Worked out great. The kids loved it. We loved it.
I live in Oregon and the cost-of-living is not cheaper here. It is extremely expensive up here so I would rethink this thing.
She also needs to get off that idea that the husband supports the family. Maybe back in 1950 or on an Amish farm somewhere but not in 2023. It's a partnership.
Do people in Oregon believe in biology?
Sorry, but lol. I know someone in Oregon that wants to move to Lubbock due to cost of living. They are so similar.
I have to agree with Dave on this one

Rumor has it the car wasn't sold, and they enjoy paying the bank 14.97 % interest for 84 months on their depreciating asset.
I see a lot of cars on the road with Texas plates here in Oregon
Yeah me too.
They made a mistake. Nobody should move here.
I can’t imagine questioning my spouse’s “wisdom” to do what’s “uncomfortable” while I’m not contributing anything
I was going to say that being a stay-at-home mom is "contributing" quite a bit if she's really got a BS in biology and only 10K in loans... but she trashed out her husband (we don't hear HIS side) and she's probably the one who, ahem, "needed" the NEW CAR. When they're broke! _She doesn't want to move because the in-laws would "educate" her._

@@MelanCholy2001the husband seems to be the unrealistic one. You hate women or something?
That's the dumb problem. Since she's not working, he's making all the decisions and they are stupid. One look at the cost of living in Oregon and anyone with a pea sized brain would stay away. Even if his gross pay would be higher in OR, his take home would be less, while having higher costs.
They are renting right now. If they move and then decide they can't afford it, and move back to Texas, they would look at a higher rent, all because the husband is emotional and wants to live close to his mommy?
Some women are too stupid to put themselves in this position. I may not like feminism, but this is one of the core reasons for it. Yet men complain that women should be more traditional and as soon as they do, they bring up the "you don't have an income, you don't have say" mantra.

NO. Family comes first. Kids need a father in their lives.
You have to make money .
You need money to feed the kids. We both worked, and we had kids. No problems.
Part of being a father is providing. He can sacrifice one year to be a better father for the future.
You have to provide for children first and foremost. If he has the skills to make money to do so without the travel, great. However, it sounds like he doesn’t.
If you listen closely Dave is saying "for a short time until you get out of this mess"
And Dave would be correct. You don't need a fixer upper if you can't afford it and using the Home Equity Loan is stupid. West Coast states are high rent and the cost of living is through the roof. If she moves to Oregon she will be back in debt and she will be broke. You can not barrow your way out of debt and her plan is stupid and dumb never use the home equity loan when you are moving stay within your means.
