Portland used to be such a nice place, I had friends there in the 80's. But times have changed. If they want to save on living expenses I'd take a close look at the midwest. The landscape isn't exotic but there are more opportunities there than people that dismiss it as fly over country realize. It may not be for them either, but if they do decide to move it would be good to look at the options and make an informed decision. Not just go with what uncle George says.

That's the dumb problem. Since she's not working, he's making all the decisions and they are stupid. One look at the cost of living in Oregon and anyone with a pea sized brain would stay away. Even if his gross pay would be higher in OR, his take home would be less, while having higher costs.
They are renting right now. If they move and then decide they can't afford it, and move back to Texas, they would look at a higher rent, all because the husband is emotional and wants to live close to his mommy?
Some women are too stupid to put themselves in this position. I may not like feminism, but this is one of the core reasons for it. Yet men complain that women should be more traditional and as soon as they do, they bring up the "you don't have an income, you don't have say" mantra.
