The Siege of Vraks was a major campaign waged by the Imperium to reclaim the world of Vraks, first from traitorous forces, and later from Chaos. Trouble on Vraks began when the rogue Cardinal Xaphan established a powerful following on the Departmento Munitorum armoury world of Vraks, proclaiming that he was acting against doubters and heretics that threatened the Emperor's divine rule. Xaphan attempted to organize a War of Faith as he established a stranglehold on Vraks, purging any who spoke out against his zealotry. However his sermons focused on the downtrodden workers and lower of Imperial society, and soon Xaphan became a man of the people. This drew the ire of the Ordo Hereticus, which became concerned that the Cardinal was amassing too much personal power and that his preachings of hope to the lower classes may result in open class warfare on Vraks. Thus the Ordo decided to dispatch the Cardinal, deploying a lone Vindicare Assassin for the job. However the assassination attempt failed, and when the attempted murder of their "savior" at the hands of the Imperial government became known, the citizens of Vraks rose up in open revolt.

"He is a veteran without leaving one planet" actually describes a good chunk of the Guard. Imperial campaigns often last a good number of years, Vraks is noteworthy because of the scale, importance and how the siege was ultimately concentrated on one major location.
As an Iron Warrior I am unsurprisingly jaded that we were not mentioned as having blocked the Kriegsmen from reinforcing the Red Hunters. And so another Legion takes the entirety of the credit of slaying the Red Hunters uninterrupted.
Kinda fitting isn’t it? I mean damn in the Great Crusade they took a backseat in the honor rolls for their own compliances and campaigns. The only time where they shined was when they were the only disciplined and coherent force at the Siege of Terra

I feel like DK is that guy who looks like he’s listening to his teacher but in his head there’s like, a windup toy monkey with cymbals doing backflips now and then.
Hector Rex KNEW the bloodthrister's true name, so banishing him it was more like a scene from "The Exorcist" and less a bare knuckle brawl.
Not going to lie, after years of having the old adeptus screen, this new one when it first came up gave me such uncanny valley vibes. Looks good, but it's been years that we've had the old one.
I think Shy and DK look great! (We get to actually see dk’s face) Bricky looks a little uncanny, and the true scale of his forehead is on full display. I feel like the vibe is matched by these drawings, DK could look a little more shocked/anticipating

@@anonnameless7799 I always listen to these while painting so the impact for me is minimal... But I agree. Shy's head looks... bulbous... and Bricky is 80% forehead now. DK looks like his face is 30% larger than a normal person's or his hood is very small. It's like the proportions are just off all over. I also noticed the creepy E.T. hands Bricky now has, if E.T. had 5 fingers.

@@carsoncasmirri3874 I believe that in lore he had to use a hyperpenetrator round instead of a shield breaker round because he was shooting through a couple meter thick marble pillar and shield breaker wouldn't pierce through it, and the cardinals shield was a thing that was kept in secret. Realistically the assassin couldn't possibly have done it better with information he had, but it doesn't change the fact that it was a failed mission.

I mean honestly I've been digging Dark Angels lately and there's a part of me hoping that it ends up that like, the Fallen (risen/redeemed? What ever the one the lion said "I'm sorry I was a dick, I was a bad dad" to...) are the actual loyalists and then What's his dink, the Chapter Master is actually like, Alpha Legion (chaos) and has corrupted the 'loyalists' and mostly act as extraction for alpha legion and maybe purging loyalist chapters that have a good idea.
But I dunno, we need more lore novels.

To clarify, Hector Rex did not solo a Blood Thirster, he finished the Blood Thirster. He had a body guard or Grey Knights and himself being super psychic pouring magic into the demon that weakened it a lot, as the demon was tearing the Grey Knights apart, he was the last one standing, he barely parried one blow, got smashed into the ground, and got the last hit in right before he was about to crushed. So technically he did defeat it, but 1. He got lucky/ the emperor intervened 2. All his guards were minced 3. His TERMINATOR armor was unsalvagable and most of his bones were shattered. So more accurately he /survived/ the fight with the Blood Thirster.
And Hector Rex is indeed a powerful Psyker and is as bulky as an Astartes.
He didn't beat it, He rendered it unable to finish him off.
If you survive a Blood Thirster it is probably because you killed him.

I don't like to defend the inquisition, but reading about Lord Hector Rex, this dude was INSANE. An inquisitior leading grey knights from the front is at another level
If I recall he also had great respect for the Krieg. I mean, name a Imperial Guard Regiment that would bayonet charge a horde of Khorne Daemons without hesitation, because the Astartes were about to be overrun?
@@lewisvargrson It's not exactly a regiment but in one of the Eisenhorn books there's a Cadian Kasrkin sergeant who tackles a daemonhost before coming back to stab the daemonhost in the back with a knife because his gun wouldn't fire. My guy was tough enough he scared Eisenhorn more than the daemonhost.

Hector Rex has also gone through some genetic upgrades, making him almost as big as a Space Marine, and as you can see in the picture, he's wearing Inquisitor power armor. While he didn't personally went mano-y-mano with the Blood Thirster (there's his entire retinue of Inquisitors plus Grey Knights), he did do the final blow with his power sword and banished that Greater Demon back to the Warp. For his act on Vraks, he was granted audience with the Emperor in the Throne Room.
There’s two things about hector rex that bricky does not know, he is physically modified to the point that he’s big enough to wear terminator armor and his sword contains a piece of the emperors wargear (can’t remember what). He also had a storm shield that got smashed by the bloodthirster

But they are still so small compared to a bloodthirster, which are nearly 10 meters tall (on average) compared to space marines which are 2 primaris is 2.5) meters tall. so it is still pretty bullshit hector won

I totally get what bricky means. I don't doubt the Inquisitors ability to *Kill* a bloodthirster, I just can't believe he lived long enough to pull it off!
Bricky also failed to mention that Lord Inquisitor Hector Rex has the physique of a large Astartes. Hes augmented to all hell, decked out in relic Power Armour, is a high level psyker himself and had summoned several dozen standard inquisitors to help during the final push into the citadel.
Oh and hes also an absolute gigachad since he had the freed Sisters burned at the stake as a massive final F you to the Ecclesiarcy and Ordo Hereticus, arguing that the Sisters cant be trusted to not be corrupted after all this time, as payback for screwing him over earlier when he petitioned the High Lords lol.

In regards to Demon Princes, they vary in power. Some are stronger than others. Like the Demon Primarchs are demon princes, but due to being former Primarchs are stronger than Greater Demons

Those 150 Red Hunters didn't all *die* exactly... A good lot of them were taken prisoner and forcefully possessed by Daemons, courtesy of the Sanctified.

That wasn't a random bloodthirster he fought. He fought Angrath, who is one of the greatest, if not the greatest bloodthirster of Khorne.
Something to really put the cherry on the cake of this madness of a siege- it costed not just the planet, but the ENTIRE system. Hector Rex Decided to have it interdicted entirely- We're talking automated sentries over the system, naval sweeps to prevent it becoming a pirate stronghold, and warnings to stay clear. Only thing it's worth now is as a giant war memorial
Amim kargori was the second commander of the 88th siege army while in command he organized a combined arms attack between the adeptus titanicus, imperial aeronautica forces, and the krieg army. Do keep in mind these three forces all have separate command chains and Kargori coordinated a combined arms assault between all of them that broke through and past the third defensive line before inquisitor hector rex showed up. Kargori is the real hero in this hole debacle of a siege alongside the krieg soldiers.
I think Kargori also requested to stay as part of the campaign. I think he wanted to see it finished, whether he was going to be in overall command of it or not.

As a Guardsman of the Death Korps of Krieg, never have I imagined a world for far from the Emperor’s light. And never have I seen a more beautiful sight. I love Vraks.
I love about this battle that the Khornite forces retreat and the alphalegion fihgts to the death lol.
I love how when you start getting into warhammer, you immediately assume "oh the imperium wins all the time they are such a teacher pet faction" then you start reading about the "victories" and its like staggering how hard fought they are. Then you start getting into the meta factor of the setting and realize that a bunch of the writers for black library (quote needed) are chaos fans.
The best example of this is in this episode, the alpha legion is able to kill hundreds of first Dark Angels and then red claws because they "ambushed", but one little inquisitor kills a greater daemon and everybody looses their mind!.
Well the dark angels are trash and the alpha legion is the best as shenanigans. It checks out.
A good Alpha Legion warband are spies 1st, tricksters 2nd, saboteurs 3rd and a bunch more stuff before actual Astartes. Give them enough time/info and they'll influence events to benefit them in the best possible way in the end.
Well chaos has to be the main Bad Guy so yeah...just look at Failbaddon serie of failures turned into aktchually it was a single plan all along.

Every time a new backing scene is made Bricky's forehead expands... The longer it is allowed its current proximity to the great rift, the greater its power shall become.
I think the reason why DK thought Daemon Princes were the highest is because all of the traitor primarchs, with the exception of possibly perturabo, have ascended to Daemon princehood, and the primarchs are pretty high up in the chaos pecking order. Kind of surprised Bricky didn't immediately think of, like, Fulgrim when trying to come up with a daemon prince example.
Well excluding Alpharius and Konrad who were both a little too self reliant and a little too dead. Daemon Princes are generally no slouches although greater daemons have a much wider scale. I think general rule of thumb is that Daemon Princes (excluding the daemon primarchs) can pose a threat to a world at minimum or a system more commonly. The top rung of greater daemons like Kairos/The Changeling/Cherubael could threaten a sector while the bottom end is just a efficient siege engine/battle ender.
There is also the community aspect with Deamon Princes. Like if you are playing a chaos warband, there is a high chance you not only named your Demon Prince, but customized them in some way.
So they are your faction head, and you might have some fun lore about them.

I read somewhere that the sisters were shown "mercy" by the lord inquisitor in the form of purifying flames. I cant remember the source but his reasoning was as sisters they deserved the respect of a mercy killing but he couldn't risk the corruption. Probably how they would have wanted go out to be honest.
I think the reason why a Daemon prince was summoned to defend the portal was because they spent too much on summoning the Blood thirster. The most they could do was summoning the Daemon Prince with a group of lesser daemons.

As I've stated before, I think Alpha Legion was actually helping Imperium here. By turning a simple revolt into a long drawn out anti-Chaos fight, they ensured that a good chunk of Chaos resources are sideline, not to be used by Abaddon for his 13th Black Crusade.
But they also ensured the war lasted long enough to make it a shaggy dog story woth all the equipment used up so...

The Imperium would have been off way better with A) the revolt not happening at all or B) Successful assassination of the Cardinal. The Alpha Legion did the Imperium no favours.

The system got quarantined, nothing of use comes out of it anymore, 150 astartes got killed BY THEM, countless people and regiments died and more resources that could have been spent better elsewhere were wasted here. I probably would have bailed out the kriegsmen and whatever other menials they had with them by the end of that first deadline then declared exterminatus when the first of the chaos demons showed

Pryyhic victories are the Imperiums bread and butter. Constantly at the edge of defeat and just barely holding on. Either because of plot, past tech, Psykers, or the insane number of human lives thrown at the problem

With that end card, I finally realized that the bookshelf behind brickey is actually just part of his armor....
I mean, I had gotten that impression, but it still blended into the background. The end card just confirmed it.
I like the idea of doing shorter episodes on specific characters to mix it up. Heck, in some cases you can use the opportunity to discuss characters that may have been skipped over in previous episodes (such as some 30k characters for factions like the Dark Angels, the Risen, Blood Angels, etc).
on the thing with the inquisitor killing the bloodthirster, it's like in Lord of the Rings when Eowyn kills the Witch King, it's not that the inquisitor somehow beat a bloodthirster in a fight, it's that he happened to have a weapon that could 1 hit practically any deamon and managed to get a lucky shot in.
To be fair, when it comes to Greater Daemons and Daemon Princes hierarchy it's gets a bit murky. Angron, despite being a Daemon Prince, can command Bloodthirsters and has a bunch of them as bodyguards, some Daemon Princes could be higher in hierarchy, than Greater Daemons, just by virtue of leading more troops, some Greater Daemons stand higher just by virtue of being a better murder machine than the others. And then there is Kharn, who, despite being a mortal, probably could tell Angron to fuck off just by virtue of being a fafourite murder machine of Khorne.

I think the Vraks series and some others going forward (Badab 'War') could do with a 'revisited' episode in the future where Bricky just says, "Hey DK. Remember when that crazy thing happened on Vraks? Well here's all the crazy shit that happened leading up to and after it that makes it ten times cooler and more grimdark." Basically going into more detail on some of the crazier shit that happened but had to be glossed over for reasons of Vraks not being 100 episodes long.

When I first read about this Siege, was when I truly understood why the Imperium destroying entire planets, makes perfect sense.
If only they had been willing to crack Vraks open, so many resources, lives, and time would have been saved.
On the other hand, maybe next time just send two Assassins.
Bricky is really understating how bad the Red Hunters were ambushed.
- As soon as they stepped out of their drop-pods they were immediately attacked by Iron Warriors and the Citadel’s defenses.
-Then hundreds ( probably more than that) of chaos cultists and mutants rushed them.
-Then Khorne berserkers closed in to melee combat. They’re still being attacked by Iron Warriors.
-Then a traitor legion titan shows up.
-They call for backup, but the Krieg forces didn’t know that they had landed. So time was wasted arguing that they were there and they needed support until an Inquisitor told the Krieg soldiers to help.
-With all the people dying (cultists, berserkers, and Red Hunters) daemons started appearing and attacking the Astartes.
-The Death Korps rushed to help but we’re torn apart by Iron Warriors and the Citadel’s defenses.
-In the end the last Red Hunters that didn’t die were taken away to possessed by daemons and then sent back out to kill again.
All those Astartes, Krieg soldiers, and the Inquisitors who were fighting with them died for nothing. That’s how big of a failure that attack was.

Daemon princes outrank greater Daemons due to their loyalty outreaching shards of their god.
Oh man he undersold Angrath so hard - he annihilated several Grey Knights in the *instant* he appeared, a few more *moments* and he would have mulched the rest of the Imperium's forces into a literal sea of blood. The Inquisitor was kitted out with the most ludicrously top-in-the-setting gear, as well as a McGuffin-grade power sword relic from the Emperor himself that alone was worth several times the entire sector Vraks was in, and he *barely* managed to parry a blow from Angrath into being a glancing one while trading him a stab of his own from that uber sword, which crippled Angrath enough for the rest of the Grey Knights to react and capitalize on. Rex was in a full-body cast from that experience, make no mistake. All sides involved were cranked up to max wank in that scene and it was awesome.
i mean, over all this was a chaos loss because a lot of the resources chaos lost cant be replenished. new chaos astartes are difficult to make, im pretty sure they lost a that whole titan legion and all the marine warbands got shanked, they lost one big ass capital ship which was probably worth more than all the naval assets the imperium lost. and gained absolutely no ground.
the imperium lost less than a year of krieg guardsmen production and a whole bunch of equipment which can and will be rebuilt because of the whole million worlds thing.
only thing that kinda stings are the hundreds and hundreds of dead marines.
This entire story is “but wait it gets worse”
