"Oh, no, sir, no. I must ask you not to touch the controlling mechanism. Return and make your selection. When you have chosen, I will prepare you through the Atavachron."
I'm quite jealous!!! I want that panel. I'll tell you my favorite time seeing the display effect was on Trek's episode "Assignment Earth", with Mr. Seven's fancy super computer in his office. That's when they really showed of the display effect and had great sound effects for it, not to mention the interactive computer voice.
@@Freshbrood I meant I am waiting for the M5 chipset for my next upgrade just so I can pretend it is like the M5 from Star Trek. I *hope* we can retrain Siri to respond to other words due to the whole Apple Intelligence that’s coming. 😁
This is an amazing work of art. I'm a big fan of all the times Star Trek used this prop (especially Gary Seven's Beta 5 computer) and just ordered this from you on Etsy.
fascinating - ive been writting a software version of this as a skin for my macOS 'Mack the Moose' - talking moose app. instead of animatting the eyes and mouth of the moose, i realized i could drive the Beta-5 animation off the eye and mouth animatton triggers, and went through just like you frame by frame to get a full detlail of the Beta5 segments. cool to see this in a hardware implementation! 🤩 thxu!
I always LOVED the m5, and I always thought that it was a convincing looking 23rd century computer ( that one and Gary 7's computer with this same panel ) I love this look, and I really like what you've made here!
Very cool M5 display. You can make something like this yourself using ESP32 and grid RGB panel display. Just have to find a nice smoked plexiglass for it.
It's the ultimate Simon! Seriously, though this is a work of electronic art and belongs in a museum. OK, I've got to ask, how the light is able to shine through the black acrylic?
Hi! Thanks and sorry for the late reply. It is actually dark grey transparent plexiglass with the backside painted white and then there are three layered lights masks (for the 200 lights total). The lights are on the bottom panel so it gives 10 cm along with the white paint on the back of the cover plexi-top for diffusing into solid lines.
Now, what would be cool would be some way of using a RasPi connected to the PC to communicate with something like HWInfo or SpeedFan or CoreTemp (APIs and info for connection to LCD displays are readily availabl) so that it's level of activity tracks with the CPU Load on your PC.
Do the original designs exist of what they did build this with and how it was controlled. I am impressed by this build, incredible details. But of course we use lovely led and circuits they did not have. So the nerd in me wants to know what has changed over the years lol
Hi there! Yeah sorry I ran out and then had a handful of people buy it through email and I just this weekend have caught up. I have a couple more that will be going up in the next couple of days..
@@billmartinson4205 Hi Bill, I don't have them up currently, I plan to list them again in a few months. I have a couple if you want to contact me directly (thunktronix@gmail.com) they run $200...
@@thunktronixHi there! I had one of these - one of my favorite collectibles ever! We communicated about a repair and I shipped the item back to you over a year ago and have heard nothing since. I sincerely hope life is settling down for you and that things are going well, and I desperately would love to get the item back (repaired or not). Fingers crossed….
@@thunktronix I looked on Etsy for this and couldn't find you at all. It would be excellent to go on my wall in my work-from-home office. So you'd have at least 2 customers (Including UnknownIdaho).
Outstanding! Excellent level of detail. Much respect.

When Apple starts selling the M5 version of the Mac, they should absolutely have this as one of their screensavers. APPLE ARE YOU LISTENING????
I’m waiting for the M5 iPad Pro for this very reason! I wonder if we will be able to change Siri activation to M5? 🤔
@@KryptonianAIIs this real? Is Apple really making a Microsoft compatible computer?

"I have no time for Beta-five snobbery. Overide!" 😂😂😂
I can hear it! "M5! Tie in..."
What I've been wanting is one of these panels that will actually attach to a PC, and respond depending on how active the CPU is...
wow i love this , if you ever sell one i be totally in , great work

Ya know Daystrom bounced back a bit after his breakdown. He didn't work with computers anymore but he got a decent job introducing cartoons.
Love this!! Really sleek design!
I admire what you created. I like Blue-1 or Blue-2 modes best.
That is quite impressive! Great replica!
I've had many computers over the years, at least one was always named M5 on the home LAN.

Absolutely love this, but I'd be afraid of "getting in the way".

Ironic that the original was probably slapped together by the Prop Department in three days and this recreation probably took weeks or months.
Hi, love this piece. Any chance these will be available again?
Very cool! Well done! Is this available as a cell phone app?
Beautiful
Hope life has stabilized a bit. If you decide to sell these again, let me know pls.
Now we just need to tie it into Home Assistant's voice commands.
Elegant work. Do you sell these? Have you thought about making the colorful flashing lighted panel on the Transporter console?
not a single "is this loss?" comment in sight, wow.

I've always been curious as to how they did this damn near 60 years ago myself
Great video...👍
Four years ago? Cool. Still selling these?
I am very interested in this item! How can I get one? As of this time, it is not showing on eBay or Etsy.
How do you get it to tap into the warp core? Just wondering.
How long did it take to make? Cool! Thank you
Sick!
I can’t find your store on Etsy
Curious when this might go back into production and a price?
That's awesome! Are you selling these again?
Do you still sell these? I’ve searched Etsy and EBay and couldn’t locate you or the product. Can you provide a direct link, please?
Did you get a reply?
Do you still make these? Searched your Etsy and couldn't find it.
Whose memory engrams was this unit based on?
Great job. Nerd alert!
I love it but hate the mode system. I would rather see 12 buttons or a dial or external remote that switches modes instantly.
where is the noise the M5 makes?
Better to create an iPad app using the api to connect to Chat GPT Voice and have it flash as it’s “thinking” before replying to the user
Great recreation! I was looking for it on Etsy how do I order one?
