Slyman, I have stayed in the Areca side of the hotel several times and will again this June ( up to 35 days) . I have no issues with the older room. Yes its older, but its very clean and well maintained. the room has everything I need in a hotel setting - decent WIFi, a great selection of TV channels, both Thai and English, good comfortable bed, large size fridge for long stay, and its spacious for my wife and I. bottom line, regardless of what rooms you paid for ( Areca, Evergreen, or Corona) all the guests have access to the gym, the 2 pools , breakfast buffet, and solid customer service from the staff. best of all, the location as you mentioned, is the # 1 reason why Areca Lodge has the best returning customer % in Pattaya. I enjoyed the video and your commentary on Soi Diana, it has become my favorite Soi and area in all of Pattaya.

If you have been to Thailand for last 5 years, then this blog is misleading and more so if you are a Canadian. I see this blog was taken May, 2019 and I was there at that time. It was my 6th trip. My 1st trip I stayed a LK Mansion. There is a bar in front of LK Mansion owned by a Canadian from Winnipeg. The next year LK Mansion doubled their prices. I then stayed at Sawasdee chain of hotel. My first trip was 2.5 months. I stay for almost 3 mths in Thailand. At least 1 month in Pattaya. The other times I stayed with my wife from Thailand at her house near Udon Thani. I always arrange to meet up with my fellow Canadian who has been going to Thailand for the last 25 years. He stays at places like LITTLE HOUSE on soi dianc at 10k baht a month. I got quite a bit of information from him and also from my wife. Sawasdee hotels are not the most luxurious rooms but for 1 month 8000-12000. baht. They are clean and certainly ok for the time we spend in the room. They have a large swimming pool shared by other Sawasdee hotels. They use to supply coffee equipment in the rooms but have done away with that. They are cutting expenses but yet keeping competitive prices. LK metro on soi Diana very expensive as other LK's are. Areca Lodge is also very expensive but your paying the more modern and spacey rooms. I rather keep my money for other entertainment if you know what I mean. I am handicapped and I need an elevator to get to upper level rooms. I once stayed at Sawasdee on soi Honey but only 1 flight of stairs which was not so bad. soi Diana and soi bukkhao is getting to be a very popular area. Every year more and more people. soi Diana does not have many good food places. Robin Nest sometimes have daily specials like spaghetti or lasgna which is decent. Even Kiss foods which my friend told me. It is cheap but certainly not the good quality I expected. I have difficult time eating Thai food because of spices do not exactly like to be in my stomach. So I therefore appreciate.good western food in Thailand. My friend is somewhat cheap. and he uses airline 1st class emirates to Thailand but he will eat at the most cheap places like on 2nd road at Apex hotel have a buffet breakfast which you buy coupons for a week or more and it comes to about 1.50 per breakfast. I went with him and I barely ate anything. The eggs, bread, orange juice etc. were all of poor quality. I enjoy a good breakfast and I started with buffet breakfast at LK Royal, then I switched to Kun Food on corner soi bukkhao and soi new plaza. Further North on on soi new plaza near 2nd road, there is a great fish and chips place. There use to be a really good fish and chips south of soi diana and soi bukkhao but they changed owner and the quality has gone down. When I use the word 'good', I mean quality as good as North America and cheaper than North American prices. (since I'm Canadian, thats good enough for me). Again searching for good breakfast, then I found Cafe Pitini on soi bukkhao near tree town. Great breakfast for the price and always busy. The resturant owned by a Swedish person across from Boston Pizza on soi diana is very good but pricey. On the corner of soi bukkhao and soi diana, there is a street food vendor that sells spaghetti. It is very, very good for the price. The previous owner was a really good looking lady boy and as of 2019 have a new owner. They have kept the taste exactly as is. My wife and I tend to eat quite a bit Central Festival Plaza at the food fair. Its ok for somewhat decent quality food and cheap prices. We ate 3 times at Sizzler's and last time, we both got quite sick with diahirra. I think it was the salad. The pizza company is very good. I think its better than pizza hut. Even in Udon Thani, pizza company very good. Well thats about all I can say for now. OH 1 last important thing. Never leave any bags on a bus when traveling around the country. Leaving Udon Thani and then going from Bangkok bus station the Pattaya bus station, the bus stopped for a 15 minute fuel fill up. I left my backpack on the bus and discovered someone stole 10k baht and important usb key with photos from my backpack. They made all the passengers get off for that time. I only found out when I got back to my room. Couldn't call police because had no proof what so ever. My wife was with me. It was the only time my backpack was out of my sight the time I was in Thailand. On bus from Udon Thani to Bangkok, I spent some money, therefore I knew it was not that part of the trip. Take care.

Someday I will take some video with interviews of the ladies on beach road. Also Puket is an interesting place. Good for families. Difficult to get around because of winding streets and not so many tuk tuk around. Beaches are fantastic. The sands get extremely hot. But I love taking the boats to the islands near Pattaya.
