    Cobra Kai is an American martial arts comedy-drama streaming television series and a sequel to the original The Karate Kid films by Robert Mark Kamen. The series was created by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, and stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, who reprise their roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence from the 1984 film The Karate Kid. Set 34 years later, Cobra Kai re-examines the "Miyagi-Verse" narrative from Johnny's point of view, his decision to reopen the Cobra Kai karate dojo, and the rekindling of his old rivalry with Daniel. Cobra Kai also stars Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni DeCenzo, Martin Kove, Peyton List, Vanessa Rubio, and Thomas Ian Griffith. The series has high viewership on both CZcams and Netflix, and has been met with critical acclaim. The third season also received the nomination for 'Outstanding Comedy Series' at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards. The first season launched on CZcams Red in 2018, with a second season following in 2019. After production of season three was completed, CZcams decided to stop producing scripted original programming, leaving the show without a home. Netflix acquired the series in June 2020, and released the third season on January 1, 2021. Netflix renewed the series for a fourth season, which released on December 31, 2021. In August 2021, ahead of the fourth season premiere, the series was renewed for a fifth season. Robert Swayze "Robby" Keene is one of the main characters in the Netflix series Cobra Kai. He is the son of karate sensei Johnny Lawrence and alcoholic Shannon Keene. Initially a troublemaker that breaks the rules, Robby begins to change his ways after training with Daniel LaRusso. He becomes the first disciple of the new generation of Miyagi-Do Karate, and one of the best students. Unfortunately, a fight with Miguel Diaz at the West Valley High results in Miguel suffering a spinal injury. Robby is arrested and placed in Sylmar Juvenile Corrections Center for assault. Following his release, Robby is left conflicted over where his alliances lay, leaving him susceptible to the smooth-talking John Kreese. Through Kreese, Robby is recruited into the newly reinvented Cobra Kai Dojo where Kreese dons him the head student. Wanting to put the pieces of his life back together, Robby finds support in Kreese and Cobra Kai. Through Cobra Kai, he learns to lead - and be ruthless. On the first day back to practice, Kreese blamed Robby for being late, although Robby reminded Kreese that he never said he was going to join Cobra Kai. He has no intention of being a pawn in the fight against Mr. LaRusso or his father. Kreese sees Robby not as a pawn but as a king, reminding him that an unbeatable outcome will follow him for the rest of his life. He mentions Daniel and Johnny as examples of the impact winning or losing can have. He also let Robby stay at the dojo as long as he needed. Robby has an unexpected confrontation with Tory, who scolds him for not being present for the fight at LaRusso's house. She appeals to him for always standing up for Sam and protecting, which won't work in Cobra Kai. A conversation with Sam turns out to be enlightening for Robby, who for the first time refuses to give her what she wants. He is not interested in starting over with his father or giving Miyagi-Do another chance. In fact, Robby decided to join Cobra Kai to lead the class in the warm-up. While they initially refused to work with him, he proved himself by dodging all attacks from the students. He just lost to Tory who thought he should stay at the dojo. As he leads the class, he explains that their enemies work together, which is why he teaches them Miyagi-Do Karate so they can defeat Miyagi-Do Karate. He becomes a mentor to young Kenny Payne, whose school bullying led him to Robby, at the behest of his brother Shawn. Robby recalls Shawn's alliance in prison and brings Kenny under his wing when Cobra Kai makes him an outcast. He teaches the boy to use his speed, not to back down from a fight but to run towards them, a lesson that helps Kenny join the dojo.

    Demetri comparing Robby in this season to Anakin after going dark side was so true. For the first 3 seasons Robby was always one of the top tier fighters just using Miyagi Do but once you put him on the "dark side" and he automatically goes full on "best current fighter easily" when he goes and defeats the entire Cobra Kai dojo single handedly

    Well, Tanner has said in interviews that he doesn't relate to Robby in any way . He said he had a very good childhood and his parents always supported his decisions in his teenage years, so he wasn't sure how he was going to play and develop Robby because he never went through such complex situations/feelings as the character.
    Tanner said he did his research and started to construct Robby based on it, but I think it took him a while to completely define and bond with the character (season 1 & 2) but he finally nailed it in season 3 & 4 where he landed the amazing performance he gave us.
    But generally all the young actors improved season after season in their acting skills. Experience usually makes you better at acting if you're not a natural, so yeah, I think Tanner has so much potential to become a household name in the future. Meanwhile I can't wait to see more of him and Robby in season 5!

    @JStarNewYrk Před 2 lety +48

    I haven't seen him in other roles, but Tanner aced his S4 performance!
    Robby was measured, logical and in control of his emotions and Tanner played it perfectly. As an young actor, he may also be more comfortable in his own skin resulting in better performance overall.
    I found S1 and S2 Robby not that interesting and a drag on the heart of the show - the relationship between Johnny & Miguel.
    S3 came with a new haircut and better acting, but his arc didn't move me and was distracting to the overall story of that season; Tori vs Sam; Kreese's backstory and Hawk's turn.
    Story-wise, out of all the kids, Robby had the most redemptive arc (w/ Tori slightly behind) and IMO was the star of S4. That last scene with Johnny was a tear-jerker.
    Lastly, the kid that played Kenny can really act! From being innocent and carefree, to being a legitimate menace to Anthony Larusso, can't wait to see what they do with him in S5.

    I have always liked him and in S4 he was the best along with Silver. Amazing performance from Tanner.
    Robby is so well written and yes, he was always well written. He is not perfect or a saint, he's flawed and more of an anti-hero but has a moral compass and kind heart is intelligent and confident and all that makes him one of the most interesting characters on this show. I'm genuinely curious and excited to see where they will take his character in the following seasons especially considering the direct connections he has to pretty much every sensei/adult and the rest of the main young characters (Miguel, Tory & Sam) on this show. He for me is currently the best fighter too out of the kids. His fight scenes are always a thing of beauty with great choreography. Love his relationships with Tory & Kenny too and want to see more of that as well.

    For the first fight miguel probably could of won without cheating since he had more training and has learned more stuff but robby hasn't trained for as long miguel which even tho he held his ground I still think no matter what miguel would of won. Robby is a good fighter but in season one like Daniel in all the movies Robby mostly got points from special moves he learned like the 2 leg kick and when he shut his eyes and blocked Miguel's kick.

    • @melissa078
      @melissa078 Před rokem

      Robby took it to 2-2 with the full use of only one arm while being a less experienced fighter. Miguel couldn’t land a single point on him without exploiting the injury and any point where he couldn’t directly target it, he lost suggesting he would have struggled without that option. There’s so much to suggest Robby would have won at full health.
      Robby is the real winner of the S1 tournament with Miguel only technically winning through cheap shots. Miguel is the real winner of the school fight with Robby only technically winning through a cheap shot.

  • @dalelapointe9289
    @dalelapointe9289 Před 2 lety +7

    He wasn't redeemed he lost again even the character playing Robbie couldn't believe they had him lose yet again makes no sense how Hawk beat him but its great plot armor. We seen Hawk fight Demetri and lose we seen Hawk get his mohawk cut off he couldn't fight off Cobra Kai we seen Robbie fight the whole Cobra Kai team the only one to get a hit on him was Tory yet Hawk beat him okay you writers say so. Just like Tory has beaten Sam arse 95% of all there fights now we have her win in Tourney but you show ref getting paid for a bad call on out of bounds which happens in every sports game in happens we suppose to over come that one bad call Sam had 2 chances to beat her but couldn't but now we say SAM should of won yeah okay writers again daddy plot armor. I would say Robbie would beat Hawk 10 out of 10 times unless the ref was paid yet he was and not lol. Tory would beat Sam 9 out 10 times even with no ref yet Sam wins no matter what happen even if you give Tory a gun it would shoot blanks we get it.

    Robby is the worst character. He never takes accountability for any actions he takes. He continuously blames everyone around him. He’s a fantastic fighter but he has no redeemable qualities.

    • @mustangmidnight5923
      @mustangmidnight5923 Před 2 lety +7

      He does take accountability for his actions. At the end of season 1 he opened up to Daniel and apologized to him for lying about his father. At the beginning of season 2 episode 10 he felt bad about bringing Sam to Johnny’s without her parents knowing even though Sam told him not to. He felt guilty at the beginning of season 3 about kicking Miguel off the balcony “But I caused all this. I kicked Miguel....He felt bad that Daniel was cleaning up his mess for him he said “Sorry you’ve been stuck clearing up my mess.” And in season 4 he felt bad for what he turned Kenny into even though he tried to help him and only joined Cobra Kai to control his anger around Johnny and Miguel. I think at the end of season 4 he feels guilty about his anger and what he’s done to other people.

      Him blaming johnny was 100%, as Johnny was a deadbeat dad
      Robby has shown trying to change his life after finding balance when training under Daniel, as well as being a good sport by offering to help Miguel up, and found it in him to forgive Johnny, but Johnny blew it again when he didn't visit him in juvie.
      He also shows how great a mentor he is to Kenny, when he was bullied.
      Robby has plenty redeemable qualities and has some of the best character development in the show.
