Opel (Vauxal) Vectra 2.2 starting problem. Injector seals change.

  • The Opel Vectra 2.2 diesel seems to have a rare problem. As it doesn't have any auxiliary fuel pump, when there is a leak in the fuel system, air will get inside and the battery will die before the injection pump (driven by the timing chain) will manage to bring back the fuel in the system. We installed an manual pump in order to get the car starting after an overnight stop, but we would like the car to run as it used to.
    First we changed the fuel return pipes, inspected the fuel filter container for leaks and now we are onto the seals of the injectors, though we didn't trace oil in the fuel filter as that is a clear sign of injector seals failure. I also traced a leak on the tap of the injection pump, which I solved by removing the 4 screws and added some silicone where I considered to be necessary.
    After doing all this, the fuel system seems to maintain the fuel itself better in the pipes but still is not like an out o the factory start.

    The difficult bit is taking off the camshaft without disturbing the timing. That whole bit is missing!
    Tie wrap the chain to the cam sprocket. Keep max tension on the chain sprocket by using bungee cords or similar.
    Mark the cam and sprocket as there is no keyway.
    Set engine to approx TDC. 1+3 pointing up I seem to recall. Remove the vac pump.
    Put a screwdriver or drill bit in the sprocket resting on the head to stop it turning. Unbolt.
    Now follow the tutorial above, preferably without over loud music drowning out the speech.

    The Bosch VP30/VP44 injector pumps are the killers of these bomb proof engines! Use supermarket diesel and it will eat the rubber in the injector seals, PUMP SEALS!!! and spill off pipes, which will allow air into the fuel circuit causing air locks, which can also seize the pumps too.! You can fit a 12v primer pump which I also fitted with a non return valve to lock the fuel pressure, Yes it works but its no a proper fix, When these engines start having poor start problems, You know 100% the damage is done!

    Hello. I have a opel vectra c 2.2 dti 2004 model. Now my car wont start. (Km 213.000) i replacement glow plugs, fuel filter and leak off pipes alls new. But i see some thinks. When i change leak off pipes in pipes have black oil :/ what is this problem ? My car 1 month same not working please send me message

    I have opel Vectra 2004 model 2.2 petrol. so the problem is not starting and the mortar modulator is dead and the heater is not working, I live in Lesotho and is very difficult to get the parts of import car like this one I have.

    How much it's cost you to fix it coz seems like I have same problem with my car saab 93 2.2 tid?

      The o-rings cost around 50 euro. But you should check first all the little vacuum tubes that run through the engine compartment. It might also be a problem with a leaking one leading to a closed air valve (it might be a not so expensive repair).

    Hi there I have a vectra b dti change the intake manifold because the swirl flaps were just moving. It took for ever to start ran it for a good 50 miles with op com the swirl flaps were opening and closing some times, and loses power at 85 mph turned engine off all fine again but this was happening before the change. my vectra went in to limp mode with the emissions light on and loss of turbo. The code on the op com p0105 turbo boost sensor change it and light out and lots of power. stopped car for about 1 hour and car would not start after a good 20 minutes fired up but when I stop and letf standing hard to start again.Looking on the interet I soodenly have al lsortes of problems. It could be this it could be that any help pleas.

      I'm a little confused right now.
      I think the code number of my engine it's a y22DTR.

    2l dti engine egr cleaned, engine wont start! put easy start in air cleaner system, it starts. the engine needs cleaning out, such a shit design.
