  • On the 16/01/2018, my friend managed to film a GWR Class 800 BMU arriving on diesel power and departing Didcot Parkway on electric power on a London bound passenger service. My friend also managed to film a GWR class 802 BMU on a test run also departing Didcot Parkway on electric power on the same day.

    • @railperf
      @railperf Před 5 lety +4

      An 802 could be quicker without the Diesel engines, but the 800's are subject to a software imposed acceleration curve to meet DfT specification. That's why the 802's are quicker in electric mode than plain 800's, despite both having almost identical equipment.

      There are many lines in the UK whose overhead power supply have a cleaner, simpler set-up. But for whatever reason this was not used for the Great Western Mainline, which has caused much controversy, especially in AONB or similarly protected areas like the Goring Gap. The equipment used for the Great Western Mainline looks awful IMO.

    Is there a reason why the Class 800s aren't fitted with plug doors? Apart from looking ugly, these trains aren't being used on the type of services where sliding doors are more advantageous. More so when the doors on the Class 800 are single leaf and are at the ends of each carriage.
