- We really enjoy our full-sized truck, and you probably do too! Trucks are hard-working, versatile, and lately, REALLY comfortable. Do you know what they ARE NOT? Easy to reach the windshield, the top of the cab, or the engine bay or truck bed from the side, that’s what!
Tire Steps solve this. A relative newcomer to the consumer market, these superb devices have been in use in the automotive service industry for a long time, and now they are readily available. While these devices can fit all the way down to a small car, they are especially appealing to us that are enjoying the Truck Life!
The model we feature was purchased on Amazon for about $30, arrived in a compact box with no damage and was set up in about 3 minutes. The first install, you’ll need to make 3 adjustments: how wide of a tire you’ll be mounting the step on; how high up you want the step to be above the ground, and how far in or out you want the bumper pads that rest against the wheel to be. Simple.
The unit is lightweight (about 11-½ pounds) and compact, easy to move from tire to tire as needed, and folds up compactly afterward. You’ll need to be a bit careful when it folds, as it’s possible to pinch a finger. The paint is nice, and it looks good. The step itself is wide enough to feel secure and to allow you to stand naturally, with the surface being anti-slip with a serious “cheese-grater” surface.
We made one small improvement to the unit, and it cost us about $2 to do so. The bolts with the rubber tips that rest against the front of the tire or wheel tend to “un-adjust” themselves while the unit is being transported around in the back of your truck. We added another nut and washer to lock the thread in place and there have been no issues since.
We think this is a serious asset to our enjoyment of our Truck Life. To find one, visit Amazon, and search for “All Trade 647596 Truck Tire Service Step”.

Thanks for demonstrating it and for the additional nut install suggestion.
i love the storage racks you have on the ceiling of your garage. Well organised set up!
Great item! You gave a very thoriugh explanation for using and adapting it to fit your needs. Makes me wish I had a truck. Lol.
im a good ole boy handyman home remodeler and ive watched a few of your videos and really enjoyed them. concise and to the point and not a lot of fluff. if i can think of anything i need a refresher on and you havnt done it yet, ill let ya know! (nylon nuts really are a great invention, no lock washer needed)
Well hell, I was just about to sell mine that's been sitting in garage for umpty scrunch years, but this video has me thinking I might return it to service.
Thank you, Jay. Seems like a very useful option. I can see one in my future.
Yay! Awesome!! Thanks for this!!
I am definitely vertically challenged and although I love having a truck, it can be a real pain trying to reach anything in the truck bed. I just went to Amazon and ordered one! Thank you so much for this video, I had never heard of a truck tire service step before.
Makes perfect sense. I think I’ll buy one (and a truck to go with it). Great review.
Corey, you're gonna get me in trouble with your financial manager. Just sayin'. - DFJ
Now there's a fun handy Gadget!
just ordered one looks real handy.
thanks for the tips
Thank you for the detailed and thorough video! So helpful, especially your tip to add the washer and nut on the bumper bolts. We just got a large truck and this will be just what we need to reach!
Glad it was helpful Marsha and Pat Kapinus! I could NEVER reach the middle of the windshield of our truck without using the Tire Step. Best to you, Dirt Farmer Maggie
Thank you
looks good
I lucked out and found mine for $5.99 at Goodwell.
Thanks for sharing
Mitchell, thanks for watching so many of our videos! Best, DFJ
Finally lol... Don't have to step on the tire lol
Hey jay,, its Concrete Mike working with Lolo,, 👍
Great to meet you guys. We love your work and will have you back for other projects. We are promoting you today in all the Tooele County main Facebook pages. Thanks for watching the videos! Best, DFJ
At this time and Date, Feb 7 2020, the same items cost 52$ on Amazon Canada.
Wow, what a difference a little over two years makes inflation-wise. You paid $30 for this tire step? Amazon wants $70 for this piece in 2022. I'd love to have two of these to make an elevated walkway to use when washing the top of the SUV, not sure I can justify the price though. I also have some concern about large wheels. A lot of trucks and SUVs have 20 or 22 inch wheels from the factory now. Does this step fit those larger wheel/tire combos safely, or is there just not enough to grab on the back of the tire with the larger wheels and tires?
Jim, thanks for writing. Indeed, price increases, supply chain challenges and record inflation is really taking a bite out of our buying power. Wow, that's quite an increase. I'll take a look at the unit and estimate the maximum sized tire it will accommodate and I'll get back to you. Best, DFJ
Now listing for $40.99. Just FYI…
Thanks for the update. Sorry to hear this has risen in price so much.
WAS 30.00. NOW it's 60.00. 😡.
...temporary inflation???? Uggh. Sorry to hear this. Best, DFJ
Good topic, but video is longer than needed. Could have said the same in half the time.
Thanks for watching! DFJ
