- Guapo and Petro our macho iguanas get first class treatment from Dr. Mike at PGA animal clinic, but you won't believe how much more wound cleaning thay need and you really won't believe how many more maggots came out of Guapo from every single wound. It's insane, but at least they are now all stitched up!

it sounds like he owns them so im just wondering why the bad care. like he brings up the being in the same cage so they kept fighting? is this iguana fights for content? id like to not think so, but it comes off like this.
@@78moonie Kenan REALLY takes care of his animals. Both iguanas live in different enclosures but somehow the latch between them was unlocked. Petro recently moved next door to Guapo since that enclose is bigger. The latch worked fine for the prior occupants 🦎 but maybe not for Petro 🤷🏻♀️. Hard to say what happened

Dr. Mike is just amazing. You’re so blessed to have him and the PGA team. Man, Guapo is worse than initially thought. He’s such a trooper though. How well Guapo and Petro are doing are a testament to the outstanding husbandry of Kenan. If they hadn’t been in the amazing shape they were things would be worse. The amount of handling they regularly have also helped with this. Accidents can happen anytime, anywhere and to anyone. Proper care of animals can mean the difference between an emergency and a tragedy.
Is Pedro/Petra the same species? I couldn't tell.
Poor little guy! I don’t care if your pets have fur or scales, they are your babies. It’s such a helpless feeling. You know that they are in the best of hands, but you still worry. Sending love, hugs and prayers!

"Dreaming of drums and bass" lol Kenan you're ability to keep things light hearted is inspiring my brother. I'll be praying for you and Guapo and Petra and everyone. That iguana has more character than a lot of folk I know. He’s a trooper. Having a pet for more than 20 years is awesome. You must have a very close bond. 😊❤😊

Kenan...I have not been able to stop thinking of you and poor Guapo and Peto. Seeing you at Dr. Mike's and getting Guapo sedated and treated, felt so much better than not knowing. Tears have been shed here in Tennessee.... so your "K-hole" joke really helped me add a laugh to my water works. 💙

You are very lucky to have such a good vet to help when things go wrong.I am glad Petro will recover quickly. Poor Guapo! He has a long road ahead, I was very impressed with Dr. Mike’s skill with his sutures. I know from seeing the tough skin of cows and horse’s sutures that it’s not easy. Getting maggots out of wounds is long tedious process that I have done in the past and daily aftercare is a must. Guapo is my guy so take good care of him and keep us informed.
I'd also like to give my appreciation to the moderators from you tube who allowed this to be shown with most of the injuries and treatment visible. It seems that many programs featuring injured animals have much of the footage blurred out. I understand why many parents want to protect kids from graphic images but but injuries and medical care are part of life. IMO, kids are better off being exposed to such things early with a parent near to explain what's happening.

I also went to Custom Cages and to Dr. Mike at the animal hospital and wrote them thank you notes ! They need to know that the good that they are doing for animals is reaching far and wide and they are appreciated even by folks who do not live in Florida.

Maggots arent always a bad thing.... They usually only eat dead or decaying tissue and can help stop infections from spreading. I hope guapo has a speedy recovery
They do use them in hospitals to eat dead tissue and help clean up wounds. The problem in the wild is you don’t know where the parent flies have been before they come to lay their eggs. They could transfer bacteria and germs to the wound whereas in hospitals they’re raised in sterile conditions for medical use.
Totally awesome that you have someone like doc Mike close to you. Nothing but positive vibes going out for Señor Guapo.

Awww...sleepy Guapo! Thank God for good vets and researchers out there who keep looking for medicines and treatments for our scale babies' ills!!!
I think that a special thanks should go to Dr Mike and the PGA Animal Clinic for actually letting Kenan in and to film while they were actually working on Guapo. Maybe some bits were a bit gruesome but it was very educational and not a lot of workplaces would have allowed an outsider in on so many grounds, like insurance risks etc. I was fascinated looking at Guapo’s x-rays. And especially when Dr Mike was explaining what we were looking at and what was looking a bit ‘off’.
God bless the doctor who took care of guapo. may God shower him 🙏 with lots of blessings. I am praying 🙏 every day for guapo we love him and wish him a fast recovery .......he will pull through this Kenan. Please keep posting his conditions and how is going for him . Let's all keep praying 🙏 for guapo, please

As Someone that worked in Small Animal Vet med, (cats and dogs nothing else) I appreciate Dr Mike filming the procedure for us! Fascinating stuff Kenan, thanks for sharing the Nitty Gritty! And I hope they have a speedy recovery! 💕
A good vet is worth their weight in gold! We’re lucky enough to have one of the best exotic vets in Australia only 10 minutes from us and I am so thankful to have them on hand when my scaley babies need help.

Oh, poor Guapo. You are right Kenan. They show Mango worms being ‘popped’ out of dogs. lol. Very interesting seeing the x-ray images. I can’t imagine how difficult it will be taking care of Guapo while he’s healing. My beardie has been sick and it’s tough enough using a syringe to give medicine and special food nutrients by mouth. Guapo is a good lizard, so hopefully he’ll understand that you are helping him. Dr. Mike is amazing and very good at explaining what he is doing. Thank you Dr. Mike for taking such great care of these two beautiful creatures. ❤

Seriously huge thank yous has to go to Dr Mike and his team over at PGA. Thank you so so much for taking such amazing care of both Petro and Guapo. It’s heart breaking seeing them both laying so still under sedation but knowing that Dr Mike and yourself will be dedicated to getting them both back to a full recovery is fantastic. It’s amazing that Dr Mike allows you to show his care even with a very busy clinic. I can see that Guapo will really enjoy meandering around the house and getting lots of cuddles in between his recovery treatments. The bond you have with them both will be even closer. It’s so important to be registered with an exotics vet, that really knows what they are doing and really understand the safest medications for reptiles. I was wondering if there is anyway to donate to the recovery fund? Sending every ounce of positive healing vibes and best wishes for Petro and Guapo and massive hugs to you, kate, Sophia and Leo 🤗🦎🤗

Imagine this hypothetical plot twist, It was Lola who beat the hell out of Senior Guapo. Petro saw the commotion from the cage next door and fudged the lock open to try to stop Lola's violent outbursts, but soon realized Lola is just a bad ass mo fo, and Petro found himself getting his ass beaten/bitten by a girl.

Don't blame yourself, lizard's gonna do what lizard's gonna do. Guapo is always going to be a handsome boy. I suggest you put up a visual barrier between the two enclosures, because he and Petro might carry a grudge from now on. Even better if you can give them both their own separate cages with no connecting doorway at all.
I don’t understand why that door has a lock on either side, clearly there must be two exterior entrance doors - one to each enclosure (although I’ve only seen him access one through the other.) Locking both would limit access to only one. A visual barrier is a good idea… I still have questions. 🤔
Oh my gosh! I thank God that you do have this excellent veterinarian friend! I’m certain this big fella is all the better from his expertise and fine skills in helping him. You are not only very lucky, but blessed to have this great relationship with him.

I've discovered something new about myself today while watching your vid. My wife is a nurse who enjoys watching medical procedures on humans, while i do not like seeing that stuff at all. However, i was glued to the screen the entire time that Guapo was getting fixed up. I'm pretty sure i generally have more affection for animals, i would think I'd be more averse to seeing animals get worked on than humans. Yet here i am, watching lizard surgery and learning new things about myself in my 40's. Thanks K and Doc!

Sending my love to you and The Guapster! He's my 2nd favorite critter at the Kamp. Slinky is #1 of course. He'd gonna be just fine. These animals are Very HARD to kill! They are built for survival! In the wild this is just another day at the office! Change of topic, I love the color scheme at your Vet's office. Khaki green/ olive green is my favorite clothes color. 80% of my wardrobe is khaki and/or olive green colored. It's a great neutral and it goes with EVERYTHING!
