2012 Ridgefield CT Memorial Day Parade

2012 Ridgefield's Memorial Day Parade - with at least 38 marching groups, including seven bands, and an estimated 2,000 participants.
The parade's grand marshal this year was Silvio "Si" Bellagamba, a lifelong Ridgefielder and veteran of World War II who served in the "Red Ball Express" truck convoys that supplied the front lines in Europe following D-Day.
There was also a focus on women who served, with several who were nurses - Josie Connelly, Bobby Anderson, Anne Fitzgerald, Sue Peterson and Rita Potter - expected to take part.
In addition to Ridgefield affiliates of American Legion, Veterans for Foreign Wars, and Marine Corps League, this year the parade also had a group of veterans from Ridgefield Crossings.
Also distinguished this year's parade was the participation of 4th District U.S. Congressman Jim Himes. Board of Selectmen members and State Rep. John Frey also participated in the parade.
The parade took place on a beautful, sunshined filled day, with the usual large patriotic turnout.
There were seven bands:"The Ridgefield High School Marching Band, Sons of Portugal, the Celtic Cross, The Young Colonials, The Germantown Ancients, New Fairfield Sparklers, The Danbury Drum Corps."
Six fire trucks - five from Ridgefield and one from the Georgetown Volunteer Department.
The Girl Scouts are celebrating their 100th anniversary and had a float in the parade and a convertible with the older Girl Scouts.
Other groups included the Woodcock Nature Center, SPHERE, and the Boys and Girls Club will have floats or trucks and trailers.
And many organizations - Scout troops, youth sports teams, adult civic groups and institutions - marched.
There was a fly-over by planes from the Connecticut National Guard Air Wing.
All-in-all a successful parade.

I have in this parade since 2006 to 2012. at 24:15 you will see me playing the Sousaphone coming out of screen left. the white thing. then steve comes out later with the other tuba
