I'm an American who studied a couple semesters of German in college (we had to take a foreign language). I have forgotten almost all of it, but I understand 2/3rds of what Till is saying in this song. Honestly, his inflection in this song makes it that much more heartbreaking. The lyrics are rough, but the way he sings them makes you genuinely question WHAT you are. This is the most beautiful thing they've ever done.

I went to the Rammstein stadium tour in 2019 and it was absolutely great!
I am 2018 diagnosed with a rare, incurable and rapidly progressing neurological disease. I have known that it will probably be my last Rammstein tour. Three friends almost "carried me there" and I was afraid I wouldn't make it. But I made it and I am incredibly grateful!
Afterwards we were told that there would be additional shows and we immediately bought tickets (which wasn't easy) for next year. Somehow I'll make it! And for Berlin, which is always gigantic, it is Rammstein's hometown. My friends will drag me there anyhow. My disease is similar to ALS and is called multiple system atrophy.
Then came the stupid Covid epidemic and the tour was postponed 2 years in a row. And then I couldn't go anymore.... I had to sell my ticket with a heavy heart - which was gone in 5 minutes.
In the meantime ZEIT came out, and when I heard the song for the first time, I cried - it was like written for me!

Big misconception about german is it's a strict, hard almost militaristic language. But I never read such beautiful poetry like in german. I never encountered such use of different words for the same things, the double and triple meanings of one word. The rhythm some word in a poem give that poem. It's something Rammstein uses a lot too. After all, they call it the country of poets and thinkers

I was educated in a Maria Montessori School. One of the main sentences from her is "help me to do it by my own". That is exactly what Rammstein is doing. The help to think by your own, to feel by your own, to see by your own. This is the only was to bring you forwards. This is real art.

    „Zeit“ (time)
Three creatures of destiny are named: their names are Urd (fate), Verdandi (that which is to come) and Skuld (guilt; that which should be). Their names are considered to be Norse equivalents of common medieval notions of time in the form of personifications of the past (Urd), present (Verdandi) and future (Skuld).
The song deals with the theme of death and the transience of life. These motifs are expressed within the video through various images and metaphors. At the beginning, when the band members are drowning in the sea, Lindemann sings about the river of time, in which all people are trapped. This metaphor is visualized by the drowning in the video. In the war scene, where children first play war and later a battle actually takes place, the band sings about the inability to stop the future: "You can't summon the future, you don't tolerate a stay". In the same place where children used to play, they now die in war. The song expresses the wish that the beautiful moments as children should always last. The women who give birth to their children at the Sandstrom represent the cycle of time. In the same place where the dead daughter will later appear, children will also be born. The farmer and his daughter are separated in a moment that seemed perfect for them. The father tries to stop his daughter, but fails. Accordingly, he mourns the moment. The character in the video is clearly identifiable as Death by the black cloak. However, the video also equates it with the concept of time, as the passage of time means everyone has to die at some point. Referring to the band, some fans and journalists suspect that Zeit could be Rammstein's last album, which could be another meaning of the album and song name.

Great analysis. But the creatures are godesses and not of destiny but rather of fate! ...Makes a huge difference in terms of the songs meaning.
According to the all the Plato and Goethe references they are most probably the Moirai or the Parcae and not the Nornes, but that might be like splitting hairs...

@@sarcasticconsultant378 Rammstein is proud of their mythology. I don't think they would put in mediterranean gods and consepts, though the theme of three women (maiden, mother and crone) are prevalent in many cultures. Rammstein uses germanic fairytales, and Germanic concepts, it seem very important to them.

Oh, thank you so much for this reaction! 🖤 And Domenica, don't worry, I cried while I was watching this video for the first time, too (and many more times again). I have cried along with so many their songs, even not that touching as "Zeit". So it is really ok. They have slow, touching songs like this one, they have fast, heavy songs with very serious lyrical topics and they have a bit silly (sexual) songs, so they have it all, but their lyrics are almost always very deep and poetic. I don't know what I could recommend now... maybe back to their live stuff and try "Ich tu dir weh" or "Sonne" maybe another official video, like "Mein Herz Brennt" or "Deutschland". Well, I don't know, I could probably recommend 1/3 of their songs, especially live performances, but you can do only one at time, so... 😂 Sorry, I am just very excited to see you liking "Zeit". "Rammstein is and remains a live band. These videos, like here, are just the exception to the rule."
I would object here and say they stand out in both.
Yes they are one of the most unique and best live band in the world, but at the same time their music is primarily story focused instead of the focus lying on their instrument and craftsmanship.
This story focus lends itself perfectly for music videos and they have done a marvelous job in most of them.
With such great and fitting videos such as for Ich will, Ohne dich, Keine Lust, Rosenrot, Pussy(fit the theme very well :p )+ all the videos for the last two albums it is hard for me to say "They are more of a live band" when you could just say "Damn, they are great in both".

Of course, rammstein story is focused, but I don't need the music videos for that.
But many of your videos don't do much in terms of story, so I don't need them. As a German, I understand the texts and what is meant. Anyone who does not speak German can usually not conclude from the music videos and is even more confused afterwards than before. Experienced 1000 times.
People have more of it to see live. With a stage show in a class of its own.
With "Mein Teil", for example, you can't do too much with the video. This song live and you immediately know what it's all about. As I said, I'm talking about meaningful videos that reproduce the story of the song as much as possible for people who don't know what is being sung.

Zeit is something else, I'm glad you appreciated it. As others recommend, "Deutschland" would be a good follow up. Mind you, not all their songs are as deep or melancholic at face value. Though they always contain a message, some are unapologetically silly, rude or disturbing, if you're not used to the band. Rammstein love to challenge our limits.

Great reaction. Rammstein is telling stories with meanings. Even the songs about sex or violence are not glorifying such things. They are describing the situations, which are often painful. I would recommend "Ohne Dich" (one of the best ballads, with English lyrics would be great), Mann gegen Mann (great lyrics and video about homophobia), the live Version in Madison Square Garden of "Ich Tu Dir Weh". (the lyrics seems hard, but like always have a double meaning).

Another thing that came to my the babies being put back in to the mother to be born again on earth and also coming back in a sense they died on earth and are now being born in the other world and their birth or rebirth on earth is them already starting to die because as soon as your born your dying..your dying to live or as Rammstein put it "Wir sterben weiter bis wir leben" "We keep dying until we live" because in a sense what we perceive as dying is us actually being born again into the other world that's why the girl in the end seems happy when she dies because she knows that her death here means her being born over there..if that makes any Sense?
This is art at its finest..a true Masterpiece!!

Rammstein is right more then just a industriel metal band and they are so deep in there songs and there lyrics. But as often, you have to listen to the lyrics und let the lyrics come into you.
Yes, the german language is roght hard and sounds harsch compared to other languages, but there are so many German singers who have writen many beautiful sounding songs. But you must looking and searching for them.

Thanks for your Reaction! The Song "Zeit" is my favorite Song at all time i´m hearing Rammstein. It´s very emotionally to me, because
i´m lost my Mother in October 21. All the Sudden, she died in the Age of 55. She´s going to Bed and never wake up again. six days before, i´ve seen und hug her the last time, didn´t know, that´s the last one forever. So the third verse ( in the Video, the Scene with the Farmer and his daughter) hits me so much and i have to crying too. Greetings from Buxtehude, Germany
