@@michailsolomons2427 She is seen as a Queen when it comes to house. She dedicated so much of her life to it and her people within house. She will forever be venerated and uplifted the same way she has done for her people. Marjory’s contribution to the movement will be studied and handed down. May she continue to rest peacefully and may her spirit continue to live on through house.

First time I was ever in a club was at Red Zone in 1990. I recognize a few of these guys being in the club that night. As a matter of fact the girl Marjory was one of them, I see she passed RIP. They broke out a circle and everyone moved back to give them room. The club played The Poem and the smoke machine filled the floor. This square cage thing lowered from the ceiling while this insane light show flipped on when the speaking part of the Poem ended. I recall the dancers in the circle wearing those baggy suits and the big platform shoes that you saw in the Stomp video. What I remember most was Lisa Stansfield been around the world was playing outside as we were waiting to get in. I think Kenny Ken was on the rope. Once inside you had the dancers like in this video, the drag queen types, some hip hop people, wall street guys in suits, basically an very diverse group of late night people all dancing.

Part 1. House music did in fact start in chicago. However, house music evolved from disco, soul and loft music and all of that started in NY(except 4 the Europe speeded up re-edits). Record lables like West End, Sal Soul and Prelude were NY based lables. And Frankie Knuckles from the South Bronx brought those sounds to Chicago. Before House, we were calling it Club music, underground music and now we call it dance music since the music played isn't strictly just house.

    • @clh2192

Nah. The story of house is one the underground clubs in late 60s, early 70s NYC... NYer Robert Williams left NY, moved to Chicago and missed the NY scene. He purchased property and needed a DJ. He went to NY for that DJ. He wanted Larry Levan. But Levan and others declined. Eventually one said yes. The DJ's name was Frankie Knuckles and the property became known as the Warehouse. When Williams and Knuckles went their separate ways, Williams found another DJ, this time from the Chi. His name was Ron Hardy. And, the Music Box was born. All the while the NY scene cont'd to develop-Nick Siano, Leroy Burgess, Patrick Adams, Greg Carmichael, Levan, Knuckles, Boyd Jarvis, Tony Humphries, David Morales... House Music is a NYC thing.

@TheAUDIOARCADE i see a heavy jazz dance (20's - 50's) influence on both northern soul and house. jazz dance which was developed in nyc (harlem at the savoy to be exact)... i think it's most likely that "house dance" style is derived from the jazz dance style (same geographical area - before internet as well) than the derivative northern soul style. the reason why they may look superficially similar is because they share the same root.

it brings back mad memories. Peter Paul and Ari used to go Morgan State University in Baltimore and we used to dance at Club Fantasy here in Bmore. However, I am still getting ill wit it. check out the video Fresh on my page, my man Buddah Monk shows our stye here in Bmore. much love. Lab aka Omar

Can anyone tell me song that is playing while Marjory is dancing? It's playing in the background from 3:07 to 3:39. I have it on one of my house mixtape from the 90s but I've never known the song.
