Hey guys! Welcome to Linguamarina channel! The topic for today's video is 'TO vs. FOR'. When do we use 'to' and when do we use 'for'?
The first thing that we're going to do is to talk about when we use 'to'.
1. Destination. Use 'to' when there is some kind of transfer happening or something is being moved from one place to another.
2. Time. We use ‘to’ in telling the time when we refer to the number of minutes before the hour. We can use ‘to’ with the meaning of ‘until’ when we are talking about time. We often use it in the expression "from … to …"
3. We use 'to' when we compare something.
4. Receiver of an action. We use ‘to’ with verbs such as 'give', 'hand', 'send', 'write', to indicate the person or thing that receives or experiences the object of the verb.
5. To express a reason (with a verb). Use ‘to’ when you are trying to express purpose or the reason that something is happening.
Let's move on to talking about 'for'.
1. Benefits. Use ‘for’ when something is being done to benefit something or someone else.
2. Period of time. Use ‘for’ to indicate time or duration.
3. Schedule. Use ‘for’ to mention a specific time, day, etc.
4. To express a reason (with a noun). Use ‘for’ when you are trying to express purpose or the reason that something is happening.
5. Purpose of something. We use ‘for’ to talk about the purpose of something.

Thank you
After living in USA for few months I have better idea when I should use them. But it’s always good to listen to you and improve my English 😊❤️
Thank you very much ☺️
After living in the us for a certain period of time do you feel better to speak in English with natives or just frame a sentance? It's so difficult to start speaking if you're not in country where this language is spoken. I have a desire and dream to visit the us or britain somewhere and I'm confused because I think I know quite a lot words and can understand all grammar rules but speaking is a torture for me :(
@@linguamarina how are you sister ?
Kirill Popov Yes, living in US certainly helped me to improve my English and it’s easier to understand them now. I lived in UK for a year and that year was very important and helpful in my English journey :) If you watch English movies , tv series and CZcams and understand it, so you’ll definitely will be able to understand native speakers when you visit these countries. 😊
@@ilonaleclerclifeinusa Yes, I try to watch it everyday and do different tasks to understand what does the speaker say. But I think that the best way to speak is to be there because when you live in a country where you use only your native language it's hard enough to practise english everyday. You know, I try to think in my mind what I'm doing now or what do I need to buy etc. Hope one day I will become one of many other lucky people who can speak it fluently :)) Thank you for your replies! It's been a very helpful and useful way to use english and practise it. All the best for you and keep studying well to reach your dream!))
Maybe sometimes I had questions how to use "to" and "for" correctly, but there are no problems any more for me with the prepositions! You helped me again👍 Beautiful examples, sounding like a native, easy to understand and interesting to watch! That's what I like the most! Your channel - It's a kind of one of the best ways for me to practice my English!

Hi Marina! 😊 When it comes to comparing I've always used "over" instead "to". I didn't even know that using "to" is correct, but now I do. Thank you! Stay safe and healthy so as your familiy! 🙂
Please , give me an example for comparing with over!

Hello Marina I hope you're doing good. Thanks for making another amazing video. I'm late for 2 weeks watching your video again!
So basically I'm living in Iran. During the Corona virus You could say It's safe here at least in my city well considering the not so high rate of infected people comparing to other cities. I've been staying at home for 2 month now, well except 2 or 3 times that I went out shopping ,not unnecessary stuff believe me:). I mostly read books in English and watch tv series to pass the time. I really hope that we all get rid of this corona virus soon. Take care of yourselves people.
Stay home, stay safe
I can't see the difference between 2:23 and 4:13, it's exactly the same because 4:13 is also to express reasons, so in both cases you can use "to" or "for" according to what you just explained...
Yeah, me too. I also feel the same
Hey! Marina
Lots of love from India 😍

The comment i look for. Thank you.
When you say about country name you can use in like; in Nepal, in India, in China but when you say about place or City name you can use at like; at Kathmandu, at Delhi, at Newyork, at Tokyo etc.
And "on". I have a problem with it
@@viralnepal5188 what about "at the office" or "in the office"?
Pandu Atisar Rahman Basically you can use for days and dates like; On 12 march, on november 15 , on sunday,on monday etc.

Hello Marina. I love you from the first time I see your video. Your talk is so fluency and your voice is very easy to hear. Thank U very much❤
Hi Ma'am, I wanna ask u which is correct :
¹• Stop talking to her!
²• Stop talking with her!
Waiting for your reply 😊🇮🇳
@Айымжан Абдралиева But why?I always wanted to find it out
Sheetal Swarnkar "...to her" tends to indicate you doing most of the talking, directed at *her*. "...with her" tends to indicate a two-way conversation. Either is, or can be, correct.
Alufornia LA "Talking with..." would still be correct usage; it indicates a two-way conversation.
I'll try to explain about our country, a lot of people stay at home however in the stores we have got a toilet paper 😀
😂😂😂
Lucky, because there is not any of these one in our stores 😅
