    Earth's landmasses were not always what they are today. Continents formed as Earth's crustal plates shifted and collided over long periods of time. This video shows how today's continents are thought to have evolved over the last 600 million years, and where they'll end up in the next 100 million years.
    ABOUT US
    Here at SpaceRip, we value the exploration of the unknown. We surpass boundaries for the sake of uncovering the mysteries of the cosmos and what they may tell us about our origin and our future. With our videos, we hope to educate our viewers on how we fit into the universe, and more so how we can do our part to better it.
    We believe there is no better time to inform ourselves about the world around us. Our partnership with MagellanTV is aimed to educate viewers on our complex world to prepare for our rapidly changing future. Through our videos we hope to capture a variety of important topics with the overall goal of promoting positive discussion and action.

      @samarkand1585 Před 6 měsíci +2

      @@riddhiman2926Hotspots are independent from tectonic plates, but plates and their motions are powered by hotspots and the mantle upwelling beneath them. This being said, it doesn't mean that every single hotspot will end up creating a new plate boundary or change drift directions.
      The Réunion hotspot is the cause for the formation of the Deccan Traps in India, but that happened 66 to 65 MYA, yet India started drifting northwards about 180 MYA. However, it seems that the drift did accelerate after the subcontinent went over the Réunion hotspot, so that could be what he meant.

    Note:
    The Cambrian, Ordovician, Devonian, Permian, Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous are NOT eras. They’re periods, which themselves are part of the actual eras, the Paleozoic (which includes the Cambrian to the Permian) and Mesozoic (which includes the Triassic to the Cretaceous, which you know as the age of dinosaurs)
    The Eocene, Miocene and Pleistocene are also not eras, they’re epochs which are grouped in the Tertiary (Paleogene and Neogene) and Quaternary periods which themselves are also grouped in the Cenozoic era.

      Over longer periods of time, the path of the continents is not linear.
