      No he didn't, he played nothing but hit-ball-hard tennis, that Sinner was already accustomed to. He would have had a much better shot varying up his speeds, disrupting Sinner's rhythm, or hitting shorter balls to draw him into different positions. All these bangers have no tactics and it's no wonder they lose consistently. Tennis is not a game about who hits harder.

  • @luporileonardo
    @luporileonardo Před 6 dny +8

    We should acknowledge that nowadays, even the top-ranked players have to play well to beat other players. Alcaraz and Sinner can win Grand Slams and yet lose in the second round at any time, and we should not think of this as abnormal or strange; instead, it is the new norm; neither it doesn’t indicate that the player is not going to play his best tennis the next week and win a big tournament. There are many kings, and the winner is the king of the kingdom until the next tournament begins.
    The gap between top players and those ranked 20 to 100 is much smaller compared to what it used to be in the past five decades of this game. Nowadays, everybody can beat everybody, or if you prefer, everybody can lose to anybody. This might be because the intensity of the tour has heavily increased, affecting the standard performance of the players. Maintaining a high-performance level through 44 weeks of tournaments in a year is more challenging.
    Their average performance may be inferior to the level played by top players in the 80s because it relies on various aspects to play their best game. Nowadays, tennis players need to be in excellent physical shape and mentally strong. This means that on a great day, they play tennis that is superior to the rest, but on their average day, their performance is not much better than that of other players. Technical skills make less of a difference in a game that increasingly relies on physical and mental strengths.

      Perché di giocatori che giocano alla grande una singola partita, non dico che sia pieno il circuito, ce ne sono tanti. Mantenere quel livello per tutto l'anno è un altro paio di maniche, non parliamo poi di un'intera carriera. E lo dico da superfan di Struff. Ma oggettivamente quello di oggi non è il suo livello abituale. Salvare SEDICI palle break con altrettanti ace non era normale per Nadal o per Federer, figuriamoci per Struff o per chiunque altro. Oggi è stato benedetto da Dio, ha giocato il suo miglior tennis e ha perso con onore. Di solito è un ottimo giocatore, che ha conosciuto una seconda giovinezza a 34 anni, ma che non penso possa aspirare a molto di più di quello che ha già ottenuto in questi ultimi mesi. Resta comunque e sempre un grandissimo pericolo per chiunque, soprattutto nella singola partita al meglio dei tre set e sul veloce. Nei tornei lunghi il massimo che ha ottenuto è un terzo turno a Wimbledon.

    Amazing performance from both. Sinner seemed to be dialing in the big serve at will, Struff only had 1 break points in this match and got to deuce twice on Sinner's service games. Sinner had 18 break points but could only convert 2 in the first set, Struff played big when he was break points down. Struff is currently ranks 41 in the live ranking, he will be unseeded and on this form I don't think any of the top seeds want to see him in the first two rounds of Wimbledon.

  • @gugendir
    @gugendir Před 6 dny +4

    So far, Sinner looks good on grass. Moves very well, seems very comfortable even though he didn’t have much time to adapt. And if he can be consistent with his first set level in this match, he can be a favorite against anyone on grass. He was fire in 1st set. And seeing his level here, I think his ideal way to prepare grand slams might be playing one tournament pre-grand slam, rest as much as possible then hit the GS. He did the same thing in AO but he pushed too much before RG and get injured.

    • @gioraos5084
      @gioraos5084 Před 6 dny +1

      The point is that he has one of the best returns on the tour so he can get a break where most of the others can't. As you said the doubts remain on his serving games. It's not that he has a bad serve, it has improved a lot, but in many games he still showed incosistency with the first serve and his second serve is kinda mediocre. If he can keep the percentage of the first serve consistently above 60 65% he can win it.

    • @gugendir
      @gugendir Před 5 dny

      @@gioraos5084 yeah, when he started with serve mistakes at the beginning of 2nd set, I said "here we go…" Because when his 1st serve efficiency dropped, his whole game started to unravel a bit. He didn’t give his serving games but he couldn’t use his many break points either which he normally does.

  • @splendidsystems
    @splendidsystems Před 6 dny +3

    Sinner could have finished this in the second set. He missed an easy ball on a breakpoint and then started making many many unforced errors, he moved less well on his legs. The match started turning and Struff had some risky plays that panned out in the tiebreak. In the last set too, so many breakpoints for Sinner, of course Struff was there to erase them, but I almost wondered if Sinner did it all on purpose to maximize his grass time.
