  • We can't thank our nation's veterans enough. In this video, Attorney Eric Olsen, Executive Director of the HELPS Nonprofit Law Firm, points out a little-known veterans benefit to help struggling veterans called veterans pension. This pension, which includes Aid and Attendance, could not only help struggling veterans but their surviving spouses as well.

When you think of a pension, you think of something that is paid to those with lengthy service. But low-income veterans can earn a pension after serving just 90 days. There are a few other qualifications to meet as well. In this video, Attorney Eric Olsen of the HELPS Nonprofit Law Firm explains the benefit that many veterans and their surviving spouses may not be aware of, and lists the qualifications for the Veterans Pension & Aid and Attendance. Not only do you not need to have served for a long time, but you don't have to be disabled to collect what could be thousands of dollars per month. Simply being 65 years old and meeting the other qualifications is enough.
Attorney Eric Olsen, Founder of the HELPS Nonprofit Law Firm, works with seniors, disabled persons, and veterans who are struggling with debt. Attorney Olsen lays out how VA Aid and Attendance or Housebound benefits could provide monthly payments in addition to other VA pension payments, and what steps veterans and their surviving spouses can take to see if they're qualified. Finally, the lawyer explains how the HELPS Nonprofit Law Firm could help veterans with their debt struggles.

I'm dealing with this exact situation now. I was under the impression that the vet had to have a service connected disability. My dad (the vet) wasn't aware of this benefit, and even with all of my digging, I had never heard of this information. This would've made things MUCH easier on my sick and aging mother. Thank you for this video!

I applied for this and was turned down. My IRA runs out early next year and then the only income I will have is Social Security. The VA turned me down saying I would be making too much! Living on Social Security in California is too much? And especially when I hear so much about concern for homeless vets? And I am trying to keep from becoming homeless. They ARE sending me a form to file for an appeal. If this does not work, then you, Eric Olsen, will be hearing from me for help. Thank-YOU for showing care for us.

My father in law was a US Marine. He is 87 & is last stage of Alzeimers/Dementia. He is only receiving Social Security Income. His issue is that his active duty time is from 1957 to 1960 active, then seperated due to winding down of troop numbers. So he was sent to Illinois & Quantico, VA from 1960 to 1963 in US Marine Reserves. I hate to see him loose his home. My brother in law lives & cares for him in his own home. He will eventually go into long care nursing. I just hate for him to go to a state nursing home in Delaware & lose his home, because Medicare will take it to pay for his long time nursing care

Well I just like to share that I care for Mom and she receives just now got the 8 and attendance I believe it's better if you have a family member live in the home now but it mean you're sure there's other things you can do I don't know everything about it but also wanted to share that my there is this thing that tried to get money from us pretending to be the VA they try to act like they were going to they were going to be able to get the money for us but then when they then they try to take the money back so do be very cautious of scammers out there because you know I realize no that money is to be used for her however I feel it needs to be used for her for her getting her reflexology treatments or getting her care as far as you know having buying the things that she needs paying someone to go get them if I can't go get them myself you know at the store all kinds of all of that is on is for her and if there's any leftover you know I can use it for food for her and use it for her incidentals but you don't have to just pay a home health agency you know that money goes directly to the person receiving it which in this case is my mom so do be careful of the scammers that try to act like they they have to have all of it there

    NOW PLAYING
VA Aid and Attendance Benefits has been CHANGED in May 2022 along with travel pay for Veteran Dr. appointments. I'm a100% Purple Heart Disabled combat Veteran, Vietnam 71-72. I am homebound and need help walking, bathing, and the list goes on an on. I am on Oxygen 24 -7 due to a heart condition and only have 1/3 of lung function. My wife can't work due to me needing help with about everything I do or can no longer do. After a year of fighting with the VA for Aid & Attendance I was denied but was approved for Home Bound Status. Compensation for funds has been DENIED unless I fill out and sign a form CHANGING me from DISABLED to PENSION STATUS. Unless I do this change they have REFUSED backpay since filed, will not pay for months of travel pay to doctors, will not pay for out of pocket medical expenses. I AM APPROVED YET THEY HOLD ME HOSTAGE TO RECEIVE MY APPROVED BENIFET. Need help, any suggestions?
