- We can't thank our nation's veterans enough. In this video, Attorney Eric Olsen, Executive Director of the HELPS Nonprofit Law Firm, points out a little-known veterans benefit to help struggling veterans called veterans pension. This pension, which includes Aid and Attendance, could not only help struggling veterans but their surviving spouses as well.

When you think of a pension, you think of something that is paid to those with lengthy service. But low-income veterans can earn a pension after serving just 90 days. There are a few other qualifications to meet as well. In this video, Attorney Eric Olsen of the HELPS Nonprofit Law Firm explains the benefit that many veterans and their surviving spouses may not be aware of, and lists the qualifications for the Veterans Pension & Aid and Attendance. Not only do you not need to have served for a long time, but you don't have to be disabled to collect what could be thousands of dollars per month. Simply being 65 years old and meeting the other qualifications is enough.
Attorney Eric Olsen, Founder of the HELPS Nonprofit Law Firm, works with seniors, disabled persons, and veterans who are struggling with debt. Attorney Olsen lays out how VA Aid and Attendance or Housebound benefits could provide monthly payments in addition to other VA pension payments, and what steps veterans and their surviving spouses can take to see if they're qualified. Finally, the lawyer explains how the HELPS Nonprofit Law Firm could help veterans with their debt struggles.

I'm dealing with this exact situation now. I was under the impression that the vet had to have a service connected disability. My dad (the vet) wasn't aware of this benefit, and even with all of my digging, I had never heard of this information. This would've made things MUCH easier on my sick and aging mother. Thank you for this video!
You are very welcome. Please share the channel with your friends.
I have been receiving the pension for more than a year. A godsend for sure.
Glad to hear.
I'm 71 y/o and was in the Air Force from 1969-1977. Did not know of this benefit, so I'm excited to follow up on it. Thank you, so much.
God bless you ; I am a widow of a veteran!
@@faithmoore7520 That means so much, right now. I'm going through a hard time. May God bless you in return.
I applied for this and was turned down. My IRA runs out early next year and then the only income I will have is Social Security. The VA turned me down saying I would be making too much! Living on Social Security in California is too much? And especially when I hear so much about concern for homeless vets? And I am trying to keep from becoming homeless. They ARE sending me a form to file for an appeal. If this does not work, then you, Eric Olsen, will be hearing from me for help. Thank-YOU for showing care for us.
We're more than happy to answer any questions you may have! We appreciate you and hope your situation gets better.
Living in California has nothing to do with the VA. Either you meet the requirements or you don't regardless of where you live.
I love your show love your Channel. When my father died in 1965 we were little kids, the government took excellent care of all of us and put us through college until we received PhD if we wanted. Totally different now , but I'm glad things are improving for our service veterans
Thank you so much for watching! We appreciate you being here. We agree. We wish there were more benefits for those struggling.
Much thanks. I think 55 years of hard work , and service , being an asset, now old sick. Am deserving.
The va medical systems are ruined. Found I must take care of myself.
Sad
Thanks for the Great Info!
You're very welcome. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for letting us know and I will pass it along thanks
You are very welcome
Cool thank you 😊
My father in law was a US Marine. He is 87 & is last stage of Alzeimers/Dementia. He is only receiving Social Security Income. His issue is that his active duty time is from 1957 to 1960 active, then seperated due to winding down of troop numbers. So he was sent to Illinois & Quantico, VA from 1960 to 1963 in US Marine Reserves. I hate to see him loose his home. My brother in law lives & cares for him in his own home. He will eventually go into long care nursing. I just hate for him to go to a state nursing home in Delaware & lose his home, because Medicare will take it to pay for his long time nursing care
Thank you ❤️
You’re very welcome!
Nice video very informative
Thank you! We appreciate you being here.
They don’t get it because VA doesn’t want them to have it.
My question is it is the disability can turn to pension and if it is turn to pension is it a the same amount you can get to your pension
I applied back in July 13, 2022 and have on a string ever since. Just last month my VSO was told I have a suspense date of April24th.
So now what?
I'm been on non service connected /w 20 percent rating. If my rating moves up will my income go up.Also been thinking of marriage she wasn't in the service but is on ssd and makes around 22,000 a year how that effect my va check if at all. I make 1160.Thanks
I am a surviving spouse of a disabled veteran and actually receiving a dependency indemnity compensation. My husband died since 1988 and I live independently. I am 70 yrs old now with monthly medications and I want to avail of aid and attendance. How will I go through it?

Well I just like to share that I care for Mom and she receives just now got the 8 and attendance I believe it's better if you have a family member live in the home now but it mean you're sure there's other things you can do I don't know everything about it but also wanted to share that my there is this thing that tried to get money from us pretending to be the VA they try to act like they were going to they were going to be able to get the money for us but then when they then they try to take the money back so do be very cautious of scammers out there because you know I realize no that money is to be used for her however I feel it needs to be used for her for her getting her reflexology treatments or getting her care as far as you know having buying the things that she needs paying someone to go get them if I can't go get them myself you know at the store all kinds of all of that is on is for her and if there's any leftover you know I can use it for food for her and use it for her incidentals but you don't have to just pay a home health agency you know that money goes directly to the person receiving it which in this case is my mom so do be careful of the scammers that try to act like they they have to have all of it there

VA Aid and Attendance Benefits has been CHANGED in May 2022 along with travel pay for Veteran Dr. appointments. I'm a100% Purple Heart Disabled combat Veteran, Vietnam 71-72. I am homebound and need help walking, bathing, and the list goes on an on. I am on Oxygen 24 -7 due to a heart condition and only have 1/3 of lung function. My wife can't work due to me needing help with about everything I do or can no longer do. After a year of fighting with the VA for Aid & Attendance I was denied but was approved for Home Bound Status. Compensation for funds has been DENIED unless I fill out and sign a form CHANGING me from DISABLED to PENSION STATUS. Unless I do this change they have REFUSED backpay since filed, will not pay for months of travel pay to doctors, will not pay for out of pocket medical expenses. I AM APPROVED YET THEY HOLD ME HOSTAGE TO RECEIVE MY APPROVED BENIFET. Need help, any suggestions?
So ok what is the income limit for a couple ? One veteran.
What if you are already getting a benefit from the va.Would I still be eligible if I was receiving 100% disability.

I applied for this this on July 13th and have heard nothing.
When you say served, does that mean active duty only? What if in the reserve. Thanks, great info.

You say "income" but I don't have a income. I recieve a monthly retirement pension for serving 20 plus years in the military AND I'm 100% disabled through the VA. If both of these monies combined are over a certain amount would I be eligible for Aid and Attendance or is that held agaisnt me?

Retirement income is counted as income. Excess income can disqualify a person, however there are deductions against income that would allow a person to qualify. Eric HELPS
Do you have to be receiving
a VA pension in order to be
eligible for aid & attendance?
No, you don't.
Hi! What form is for application aid & attendance to widow of veterans. Form VA-21-2680? Thanks.

The gulf war dates start 8/2/90 and ongoing to the present day- so it appears not. Of course you may be entitled to other VA benefits related to a disability while you were in the service. Eric HELPS
@@ericolsen2141 thank you;];];] i was wondering about that;];]
GULF WAR VETS DO QUALIFY! I'm a Gulf War Navy Vet 1990 I was active. The attorney Eric deals with can clarify this.
Rules say served after 9/7/80 for at least 24 months & 1 day during and active war
Check the rules for yourself as a vet Dude. Please so you can get what you need.
YOU SERVED THAN YOU DESERVE! Ah-Hoorah!

Does a surviving spouse who IS receiving this benefit, then lose it if they remarry?
If they remarry now, yes. If their remarriage ended before Nov. 1, 1990, then they could still receive the benefit. That's my understanding.
i am avet and 68 yrs. I live on 1.333.00 pension thats all every thing whys taken away from me. I cannt get food stamps or own a home. I have VASh for rent ,I severed durind V.Nam. If I canget a job or it will be taken a
Can you qualify being under 60 with SSDI benefits
Absoutely, look on the internet for information about qualifying for Social Security Disability benefits. There are attorneys that help people in this are who are not paid unless they are successful. Eric HELPS
Yes if disabled and otherwise qualifying, Eric HELPS
When apply do you get back paid from date 100 % disabled P&T

Yes
Why does it take 6 months to get it ?
In a word, "bureaucracy"
so if i served in afghan in 2013-2014. does that mean I fall under the Gulf war?

Can I get war time non disability retirement pay when I turn 65 and continue to get 100% SC disability pay in addition to the non medical 65 year old military retirement pay ? Im getting SS and VA 100% SC disability pay now at age 64 . I think I can get all three same time . All tax exempt too. Does anyone know ?
Contact the HELPS Nonprofit Law Firm, call 1-855-435-7787
No you can get the greater of the two (SC or pension). EDIT: Pension being VA pension.
So if you served over 20years and receive a military retirement pension you do not qualify.
