The bad thing about being late to a book series: no one is talking about them anymore and you feel sad and lonely
The good thing about being late to a series: you don't have to wait for the new books to come out, which is fabulous

I love Evelyn Hugo and I think it would be really cool if you did more adult books that could bridge the gap for people who are only or stuck reading why YA but want to try out more mature themes because we all become adults at some point.
I also think it would be a great series to start doing random book selections because every book doesn't fall cleanly into a specific genre. I literally call it the Genreless Books Collection on my shelves, it would be a disservice and I would never be able to find the books because I'd be looking in like mysteries but because it's got like a sci-fi and Gothic horror element it with those books but I'm looking in mystery because it also mystery and that's all I can remember at the time. No this is the Factionless books. 📚

Omg I LOVED your comment about Milk and Honey and the « simplistic » poetry vibe going around these days! It annoys me so much when I hear people say that it’s not real poetry because its too simplistic but what they dont understand is that the topics are far from being simple and so important and heavy. I think that its way more impressive when a simple sentence makes you feel so many things, rather than a longuer sentence that doesnt make any sense in the end... 😊

I read the Astonishing Color of After last month b/c of your recommendation. It was so beautifully written and I loved that it dealt with suicide without making the entire story feel really heavy and dark. And the relationship she developed with her grandparents was so sweet!!
Also, a book club for Her Body and Other Parties would be awesome. Every person I’ve seen that’s read it says it a lot to take in but I haven’t heard anything negative about it yet.

Hmmm. I wonder if I can come up with seven books I consider necessities. Let's try.
Gotta start with the best book I've ever read. *Wonders of the Invisible World by Christopher Barzak* is about a boy called Aidan Lockwood growing up in a small rural town in the American south. Aidan doesn't really have any friends and he's just sort of drifting through life. Then his best childhood friend, Jarrod, returns to their hometown and tries to rekindle his relationship with Aidan. But Aidan can't remember the things Jarrod tells him, even though he definitely should, especially the strange supernatural phenomena only he could see. Aidan and Jarrod decide to try and get Aidan's memories back, and along the way they discover the secret history of the Lockwood family. It's a story about loss, sacrifice, revenge and consequences. Plus it won a Stonewall award, so you know it's gotta be good.
And then it has to be *We are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson* . It's about this boy called Henry Denton, whose life is kind of hell right now. He's bullied at school, his brother is abusive, his mother is distant and his grandma has alzheimers. The one thing he had that was good in his life was Jesse, his boyfriend. And then Jesse committed suicide. As a result of all of this, Henry has pretty severe depression. On top of that, he gets abducted by aliens and is told the world is going to end unless he presses a button to save it. But Henry isn't sure if the Earth is worth saving. He has 144 days to decide. I know you would love it because everything you say about The Astonishing Colour of After reminds me of this book. It deals with suicide and depression in an incredibly raw and real way, but it has an incredibly hopeful overtone.
For something completely different, the next recommendation has to be *Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy* . Skulduggery Pleasant is a bestselling (though sadly not in the USA, owing to the American publishers losing confidence in the series, giving it terrible covers, and subsequently only publishing the first three books) Irish children's fantasy series about a twelve year-old girl called Stephanie Edgley whose uncle Gordon dies, leaving his vast fortune and his estate, much to everyone's surprise, to Stephanie. Circumstances conspire that Stephanie ends up alone at night in Gordon's house, placing her in terrible danger when a man breaks in looking for a key. Before anything happens to Stephanie, she is rescued by Skulduggery Pleasant, a detective who just so happens to be a reanimated skeleton. It is the best children's series of all time with amazing characters, incredibly sharp dialogue, and a masterfully woven, intricate plot. The series also gets darker as Stephanie ages, venturing into full-on horror at some points. The first book is titled Scepter of the Ancients in the USA
Staying in the same vein, *The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud* is a children's fantasy series set in an alternate universe version of Britain, ruled over by magicians who enslave spirits to do their bidding. Bartimaeus is a djinni who is summoned by a young boy to steal the Amulet of Samarkand from the house of the notorious and powerful magician, Simon Lovelace. Things don't quite go to plan. Despite its fairly simplistic premise, the books go incredibly deep, and examine ideas of classism, abuse of power, slavery, loyalty, friendship and love. They are some of the best books ever written. The first book is called The Amulet of Samarkand.
Much in the same style as Bartimaeus, we have *The House of Mountfathom by Nigel McDowell* . It's set during the Irish civil war and it follows a boy called Luke, who is the son of Lord and Lady Mountfathom, the most powerful wizards in Ireland. The story follows Luke as he grows up during the escalating war. It's mostly about the life lessons Luke learns, his relationship with his parents and the other wizards, and with a peasant boy called Killian, and the role of wizards in a world that no longer needs them. It's a truly unique book.
Then there's *Death or Ice Cream? by Gareth P. Jones* . Death or Ice Cream? is a series of absurdist horror short stories, set in the town of Larkin Mills. It's also about the history of the town, and the war between two powerful forces that struggle over ownership of the town. It offers some commentary on the ideas of religion, omnipotence, and of course, good and evil. But even apart from that, the stories themselves are incredibly entertaining. It's just a good, fun book.
And finally, *The Dark Lord of Derkholm by Dianna Wynne Jones* . The world is owned by Mister Chesney, a man who uses his power to cross between dimensions for profit, and sells "pilgrims" from our world the chance to have a real fantasy adventure. But Chesney's "Pilgrim Parties" devastate the land, and the people have had enough of Chesney's rule. They want to rebel, unfortunately, Chesney keeps the people in check with the threat of his demon, a creature more powerful than any other. They resolve to end the tourist trade once and for all by ruining the latest Pilgrim Party. To do it, they must appoint the most incompetent wizard they can think of to be the Dark Lord. The responsibility falls on a man named Derk. The book is mostly a commentary on the dangers of extreme capitalism/corporatism, and abuses of power. The sequel is also very good, and presents a satire on education and the school system.
    I managed seven!

My favourite book is a book no one really knows about but the plot, characters and humour is on point (for me at least). This book is called *Lockwood and co*
I could not recommend this book enough! It’s like a detective, sci-fi,horror ghost story type of ordeal. There are 5 books in the series and it’s complex and it’s plot is incredible. The plot twists have made me gasp and I finished the final book yesterday. The characters have a very similar humour to mine (sarcastic dry British humour 😂). I swear everyone can relate to a character in these books,by book 3 all the characters are incredibly well developed and you can see all their relationships grow and flourish. I could not recommend this book enough!
    Books:
    Lockwood and co:The Screaming Staircase
    Lockwood and co:the whispering skull
    Lockwood and co:the hollow boy
    Lockwood and co:the creeping shadow
    Lockwood and co:the empty grave
    Author: Jonathan Stroud

all the bright places is one of the most problematic books about mental illness that i've ever read and it's not even ownvoices so if she wants to read it she can but she should know that it has terrible rep and is quite harmful (it triggered one of the worst nervous breakdowns of my life) so please, hannah if you decide to read it i'd suggest you look up the trigger warnings ! if you want to read good mental health rep there's under a rose tainted sky or my heart and other black holes which don't romanticize mental illness and are own voices novels. nothing shameful about loving ATBP though, just wanted to warn the future readers of this novel.
