Heavy Duty Bike Repair Stand / Lift Crane

- Working on cargo bikes can be kind of a pain - normal bike work stands aren't designed for the size and weight, and the height adjustment is usually a pain to use and requires manually lifting the entire weight of the bike. The cheap ones are flimsy and wobbly. The holding clamps slip, and the feet are always in the way.
So I decided to make a heavy-duty work stand that won't tip over, won't wobble, is strong enough to hold up 50kg+ Bikes, is still movable with the bike attached, doesn't use much floor space and most importantly, doesn't require you to lift the bike up. It also goes up to a height of over 2 Meters.
The crane mechanism can be operated in two gears, quick for regular (light bikes) or with a low gear for heavy lifting. I can also motorize it with a powerdrill.

Hey Everyone, guess this is the first time I actually adress my viewers ;)
First of all, Thanks for 10.000 Subs. Didn't expect this to take off like that but that's awesome.
Secondly, it would be cool to hear some opinions on whether I should add voiceovers/more explanation for more complex builds like this, or stick with just showing the work and keep it snappy.
Either way, more videos are on the way. Stay tuned!
Congrats on the 10K subs! I actually just subscribed to you within the last month. I would love to hear voice over for complex builds like this. I like your videos regardless but I think explanation would only add to it. Keep up the amazing work!
Don't listen to Josh Russell keep them silent
It would have been nice if you explained where you got the hardware..(gears) from and where your idea(s)/ inspiration for this project came from.
No voice over! PLEASE!! And if you choose to add some explanation , can you just do it with text (or subtitles)on screen?
Beautiful. Reminds me of the 40’s when everything was so robust and metal. And you made it beautiful, sleek, and strong!
I'm a huge fan of function over aesthetic, but that is a work of art that is also a functional machine!
Your a Tig welding King! It takes true talent to dream up stuff like this, Nice job!
What a cool build. It's great to see you work, and the geared ratcheting mechanism is brilliant.
Just came across your videos this morning and I have to say I'm inspired! Thank you.
No way! Building a bike repair stand was the next project on my list to build and make a video on! I really love it, great job!
Best bike stand there is !!!! Great job, sturdy, innovative, and it will last forever !!!
Beautiful execution of a well thought out design, very impressive ! Good job well done.
Wow! That was an awesome video. I love your attention to detail. It really makes me want to up my game on my welding videos.
This was a work of art and absolute pleasure to watch. Well done sir.
fantastic job!!
Nice fabrication! I bet it took quite some time to get this accomplished. Nice TIG work to. The bike rack is probably sturdy enough to lift my motorcycle. :)
A sick bike requires a sick stand!! Nicely done!
Very clean work and utility!
To repair a bike, think myself doing the same.
You have mad skills, I only strive for the quality of your builds but seldom accomplish what you have! Keep up the great work !!
Really clever, love it. I like the video style just the way it is.
now that is a professional stand!
I want to make one!
Hey Phil ! Nice job, thanks for sharing ! For me it's cool like this, with some text sometimes. I liked the fun you put by the choice of your music !
Nice design and well crafted, great job!
And I thought I am the only one who always hate those wobbly bike stands! Finally you made a proper stand! Those wobbly stands are super inconvenient to use for almost any bike work. This is a great design, you have great machining skills!
You have such awesome skills! Perfect work Done. I hope it will last you for long time.
AWESOME job! Thumbs up!
Regular Bike Repair Stand / Normal Repair Stand Da Best Than This Heavyweight Bike Repair Stand
Awesome videos as always, nice work!
Nice weld , nice tools, nice idea, nice video, two thums up
Those are some dank tunes in the background, I'd love to see a playlist of em
¡Fantástico! Excelente trabajo.
Hi , fantastic works !
Phil Vandelay
This is a great and imaginative project.
I might have to build one of these. Great Job!
Oh Ya Subscribed
Excelente trabajo!
Dat welding skills ! Awesome work and idea, man !
this is Awesome !!!!!!!! Great build
Must be so rewarding to be able to build something better than what you can buy in stores.
Very awesome stand!
This is an epic build.
Excellent, good methodical work, very interesting to watch.
Awesome job! :D
Top of the morning to ya. Just found your channel and like it. This stand build was pretty darn good but, I personally, would've like to have the voice over. It would've been nice to hear you talk about the process and explain things. Just mho though. And giving you a sub. Have a good New Year.
Excellent job sr!!!
WOW, that's was awesome!
I love the delicacy of your welding
I bought a CXWXC bike repair stand and it worked really well.
Wow! You're an artist.
AWESOME !! 💥
Great work. You are really smart and have great ideas.
Absolutely brilliant, I need a stand like that for my ebike so I'm going to build something similar to this, thanks for the inspiration!
I'm going to build an even better, motorized version of this lift soon-ish and it will also come with plans. Just a heads-up :)
Heilige Mutter der inspirativen Eingebung, Batman! Der Part ab 5:03 ist genau die benötigte Lösung für eine Denksportaufgabe. Coole Idee, danke dafür!
Oh man what a piece of work ! , you have all the toys, your machine work, beautiful welds on real steel, and wheels, (more steel), gears?, oh wait, needed lower gears, probably for the optional clamp for Jacob's motorcycle !..You sure make that look easy, like one day when you were about 9 your dad said , " son, I wanna show you something out in my shop".....
You have a great talent, and are a great engineer, a pleasure to watch
Fantastic!!!
Damn thoses weld are perfect ! good job !
Awesome... Congratulations dude
Excellent craftsmanship
Good Welding and Great Design
Very impressive!!
very very nice. Thanks,Cool project
Muy buen trabajo!!! Te pasaste 👏👏👏 saludos 👍
Nice work👍
Awesome!!!
Bloody hell! Fantastic.
master piece !!!!
Nice work
Congrats very nice work
My favorite channel. I need something for picking up my velomobiels, already made two molded saddles of fiberglass/carbon on belly. This vid could give me some ideas. It needs to be cantilevered out so i can get totally under it and work.
I'm actually 90% sure I will revisit this build in the foreseeable future and build a better version. It's not that I'm unhappy with it, but I can think of so many things to improve. One thing is what you said, I want to somehow make a stand that takes up less space in front of it. I might also motorize the lifting...
Muito bom, está de parabéns e muito caprichoso.
Excelente, saludos desde Chiapas México 🇲🇽
good job man. very nice, quietly and perfect job. No stupid music with work, No BLA BLA BLA,,just work. wel done man, thanks for this beutifull video.
Nice bicycle stand.
very good job
WOW un trabajo genial¡¡
Good efforts
BEAU TRAVAIL ET FELICITATIONS
+1 for the good looking joints
Com a ferramenta certa se consegue fazer é bem feito ficou show parabéns
Cool 👏👏👍😊
Отличное видео. Приятная работа. Прямые руки.
Really clean and well thought out build mate, I really enjoyed the video. I don't feel that the lack of voice over detracted at all from the video, you showed plenty of detail and each scene was well shot. Will definitely be borrowing some of your ideas for my own bike repair stand :)
Phil, teach me how to weld, nicely done dude...
thats the best stand that i have ever seen beautiful job,i have one but up against that one mine looks like junk, guess ill have to do something about that, great job
Welding or art?
Really good. Fun to watch, too
GENIOUS!!! BETTER WITHOUT VOICEOVER - CREATES SORT OF A MYSTERY
Show de bola,parabéns.
Awesome work. Very clever use of all the materials. Obviously your channel is growing rapidly because of the projects you are sharing and your video production. Adding voice over would be very nice, but only do it if YOU enjoy it too. I would hate to have that added production burden reduce the amount of videos you share. Thanks for all you do ! Joel.....
Ingenious.
Impressive
You know what they say, If it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing. Good job. Regards
Please, post the list of materials.
Excellent work, very professional
well done
This is a high engineering accomplishment. You started with nothing, and then ....Congratulations. It is not a thing for everyone.
Questa è una realizzazione di alta ingegneria. Sei partito con niente, e poi....Complimenti. Non è una cosa da tutti.
obra de arte ,parabens
Oh man, you're on the spot... get it? He he he tnx bro, this is a nice vid and u got yerself a suscriber here, happy holidays!!!
I am a car mechanic we use what is essentially huge versions of what he just made. It would be cool to make it motorized with a detached control panel to operate it.
It's funny you mention that because I'm actually planning a new version of this lift that will do exactly that! It will also be much beefier and able to lift more weight. Probably not enough to lift a car ;) But enough to lift very heavy bikes, or myself, hopefully
Genius!
MAESTRO NICE BRO VERY NICE...
I throughly enjoyed all parts of this video! From the design and execution of the stand to the video editing and sound effects. Very well done! Even without your voice I understood everything you were doing. Are you going to paint or clear coat it? It looks to me the only area of play is the main carriage on the vertical pole. Maybe a locking lever once you reach your desired height would take care of it. That is if there is any movement there. I'm sure you spent as much time on the editing then on the stand itself, if not more.
I probably won't paint or clear coat it because there's so many parts that slide over each other, it would induce friction and just scrape off after a while. It would look cool with some color on it though. I find a good coat of WD-40 every now and then is enough to keep stuff like this relatively rust free indoors and the round tubing is actually stainless. As for play, actually the most wobbly part is probably the wheels, even locked they move a little bit. But that's fine as long as everything stays in place and doesn't slide down by itself like the old one...
A really solid lock for the base' castor wheels would also help towards stability.
Those happen to look like the exact casters that i own, using a dual locking mechanism, that stops the rotation of the wheels, in addition to stopping them from swiveling as well. For his sake, I sure hope i'm right about that, am in total agreeance w/u on that sentiment.

Yes they are locking casters that lock in all directions. But every caster I've tried so far, even the large industrial ones always had some amount of play in them. It's not that they start rolling when you don't want them to, but the stiffness of the caster itself that usually results in some amount of wobble. If I had the option (and more shop space) I'd probably just bolt this thing to the ground somewhere ;)
Nice
Nice welding and execution. I understood what was going on without a voice over. I just have one suggestion, and that is to add a secondary lock to the vertical lift portion. It looks pretty solid, but the gear teeth could cam out and slip.
Makes me want to weld something....
GREAT MASTER....
Pretty cool build sir! Please keep it up, because your videos are awesome! Btw, voiceovers means more work on the post production, but it would be cool sometimes.
