  • @edwardcatt2399
    @edwardcatt2399 Před 4 měsíci

    GS, like any mechanical watches, won’t consistently hit the makers on either side of the dial but they DO generally hit perfectly between 10 ~ 2 . . . I myself own the Tough Quartz SBGX341 and I almost went mad in Tokyo finding the piece with PERFECT alignment . . . In the end there was always a small degree of compromise so I just set out to find the one where 10 ~ 2 hit closely with 12 hitting _perfectly . . ._
    I plan on picking up a 265 for my daily beater . . . Considering having a GS-affiliated jeweler remove the second hand to afford the piece a less hurried mien but . . . Not sure I could bring myself to do so 😅

  • @BobLorrimer
    @BobLorrimer Před 2 lety +1

    You could do with more variety in your shots, particularly wrist shots in different locations as we want to see how the Grand Seiko sits and wears. However your short review is excellent and maybe a game changer for me.
    Quartz is seriously underestimated...I have a beautiful Rose Gold Cartier with a Quartz movement ... it is not just a prestigious jewel to look at but has been quietly and inaudibly ticking away for 20 years without recourse to servicing or repair. The battery life is about 2 and 3/4 years. The new ones will give you 6 plus .
    I have bought two higher end mechanical movement wristwatches recently and I am delighted with them - but I feel my modest collection could do with a regular no frills, no hassle, day to day watch. I looked at Rolex OP (say no more about that!) I have studied Omega Aquaterras (really great) and recently Grand Seiko's mind blowing 'spring drive' mechanicals.
    Following your review I can now see that the Grand Seiko X265 may well by my 'catch all' solution. I will take a closer look at the Watch at my local dealer.

    Is it considered to be a flaw if the second hand doesn't precisely align with the second markers in high end quartz pieces like this? I guess not but I've based purchase decisions off of it regardless (i.e., forfeited a purchase) . . .

    • @KPsWatches
      @KPsWatches  Před 2 lety +1

      Well it is accepted that the second hand will not always align with the markers since the the weight of the second hand is high enough and the motion is quite staggered that it causes the seconds hand to miss the marker slightly, this is something GS has addressed with this movement. If the second hand repeatedly misses every marker by a large amount, we would consider that a flaw which you rightly should request be fixed, but it is quite easily fixed.

    • @fletcherhamilton3177
      @fletcherhamilton3177 Před 2 lety +1

      @@KPsWatches - thank you for such a speedy reply! In truth I’m giving very serious thought to the purchase of a very modest, very discreet GS SBGX349, whose matte azure dial was quite stunning in person. My only qualms are the quartz movement (hence by question about the hand and the markers), because I’m one of those who finds it difficult to reconcile a quartz movement with the concept of a ‘luxury’ watch, and its dearth of any real water tolerance . . . It’s hard for me not to think of such a watch as ‘delicate’, and that’s not really what I’d want to go for. It’s fine for settings like ‘wandering a shopping mall on Saturday afternoon’, or ‘at the office’; not sure if it’s OK for easy woods hikes and the like . . ?
      I also bought a pair of extremely run-of-the-mill gold-coloured quartz Seikos in Auckland a few years ago (online, from Christies Jewelers, picked up in person, about $400 NZD each), as I was certain that _one_ of them would have a misaligned second hand (I was right). I figured I’d enquire but the woman on their hotline said that this wasn’t within the purview of the warranty to ‘fix’ as it wasn’t really a mechanical fault, and that to fix it was basically an ‘impossibility’ owing to _technobabble technobabble technobabble . . ._ This, I’m afraid, was / is the degree of customer ‘service’ that one can expect in the retail context of New Zealand . . . 🙄

      @KPsWatches  Před 3 lety +1

      I have never had the chance to hold both the sbgv225 and the SBGX265 at the same time, however both are just as stunning, and in my opinion the only difference was the case size (with that said there is the possibility that they have slightly different shades of blue, my eyes are not the best at discerning different shades of one colour). I have not experienced the sbgv239 so could not tell you what the blue on that watch is like. What i can say is that if you are set on a blue dial, id base the choice of watch on 1. case size for your wrist 2. the case shape you like most. Worry not as much about the shade of blue as they will all most likely be very impressive in person. Also if you have a GS boutique nearby, go visit and look at them all.
