I took a trip to the East Coast to enjoy the sunshine, I fell in love with Saltburn-by-the-Sea and ate some amazing fish and chips from the Cat Nab Restaurant. I ventured a few miles further south and found the stunning Skinningrove Beach. I can't believe I've never heard of this place before, It has to be my favourite UK beach so far! I finished my mini trip off with a quick walk around Staithes, where I enjoyed an ice cream on the harbour.

Skiningrove beach is the most beautiful beach I've ever seen and unbelievably secluded and quiet.
Stunning North Yorkshire coast, this is a country worth fighting for, like Ireland.
Absolutely
Can't argue that Fact 👍😂
You just can't beat September and October, beautiful hazy sun with a bit of that early "almost Autumn" crisp. Lovely
Absolutely 😊
November, Horizontal Rain🤣 stood at the back Alex (Alexandra Vaults) Soaking by the Firer
Saltburn around by the pier is a little hidden gem, almost a place lost in time.
It always strikes me a little that as the crows fly, one just knows so little about England in this case. Even in a tiny country as Holland is, I sometimes drive just to nowhere thinking wow this is a beautiful area.
Bloody Hell!..I nearly got the bus to Redcar today to have a walk along beach to Saltburn!..I would have shouted "Gizza chip greedy Bastard!" If I'd seen you?!😀..I used to live in Marske and have walked that beach hundreds of times..it's a lovely day out walking coastal path from Saltburn to Whitby and getting bus back or making a night of it in Whitby!...if you had in Saltburn till 4 you would have seen the Red Arrows flying by?
English philosopher Alan Watts wrote 'the meaning of life is just to be alive. It's so plain, so obvious and so simple.' He went on to explain (my version of his text) that humans seem to think they have to leave their mark on life and achieve amazing things but the truth is the opposite. Just looking at the tide, watching the birds, walking in the forest, picking fruit from a tree, feeling the temperature of the water with your hand etc is what life is all about. Just experiencing where we are and what we are is our purpose of existing. You're living as close to his theory as you can probably get in the modern world.
I do like Alan Watts
I know most people love the blogs with Helen and don’t get me wrong I also do! But this was a cracker ❤ well done to you thoroughly enjoyed this x
Thanks so much! 😊
Amazing views and the beach looked clean and safe . Cheeky fish and chips a pint and finally an ice cream what could be better. Living the dream life !
Well done, brilliant discoveries James, I'm visiting Saltburn by the Sea as soon as possible after watching that. Thanks for a great video review once again 😊👍
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it
Saltburn is my neck of the woods, beautiful area Staithes pronounced steers t locals and skinningrove all on the stunning Cleveland way helmsley to filey. Thanks mate
You're welcome
I hope you enjoy the experience of the country when the winter sets in. It annoys me when people moan about the weather if it's anything other than scorching hot. I love the seasons and I especially love rain. The best walks are when you're wrapped up warm, the chill nips your nose and your rewards is a foaming pint that's waiting for you in a seadog's tavern.
I bloody hate the winter, sorry about that
I hate the winter.
I especially the sudden heavy Geoengineered showers of rain that the rich criminals behind the UN pay their pilots to cause along with the "cloud seeding" they do.
I live in tenerife for 10 months of the year but I always make it back to Yorkshire for a long Christmas and new years just to cool my bones for a bit, and to see my grandkids 😂😂😂 I like the sun but it gets relentless over here 😊
@@elliegreen4738 utter nonsense

Utter cluelessness from you, keep on wearing that mask.
Watching this and my roof on house nearly blow off with Thunder and lightning lol That beach looks fab and lovely and quite. That village near end looks so lovely.
I've always loved the cry of seagulls. We always went on holiday to Scarborough in the 1970s and the gulls were the soundtrack to those magical times. It's the sound of pure magic to me.
They are OK until they nick your chips 😂😂
Great video of Scarborough on CZcams 1972-73 brings bk lot of memories of hols with me mam dad grandparents
@@tatsnneeps341 Aye but seagulls were here millions of years before chip shops so seagulls take priority.
You know how to live mate. Keep it up. Fish and chips followed by beer is part of our cultural heritage, lol.
You got that right!
You cannot beat our seasides on a beautiful day. Ive been all along that coast from Bamburgh to Bridlington and never heard of Skinningrove beach...its gorgeous !
Staithes is beautiful but if you go out of season, it's empty because they are mostly holiday homes.
South Shields and Seaburn (Sunderland) is beautiful. There is a pub on the beach called The Grotto, which is actually built into the cliffside...
Can I just add, your camera work is getting better and better x
Thank you, I really enjoy filming
Give me a beach in the UK any day of the week. We have so many little gems, that fortunately have not been commercialised. 👍
Great video showcasing our beautiful coastline, nice one James 👍
North Bay beach, Bridlington, is by far one of the very best on the Yorkshire coast. Toilets are clean, it has a stop for the land train, the headland is wide and verdant, it's safe for families/children/loan wanderers and has one of the very best fish and chips kiosks anywhere on the coast. It's quite literally 9 steps up from the sandy beach.
BTW. Great vlog. Saltburn is where I used to play as a kid. I lived a couple of mile away in Marske by the sea.
never been to saltburn but it looks beautiful and those fish and chips look amazing.never heard of skinninggrove but it looks amazing,we are so lucky to have so many beautiful places in the uk
Helen: If you have a few days, this area is lovely. Saltburn is a delightful Victorian small town (you can walk the whole length in 15 mins or so) the houses on the front are FIVE storeys high, magnificent architecture. There is a music festival every year around 12th August, music and dancing in the street. The lift to the pier is (or was) 50p each way (I walk down and ride up!). Then further down the coast are the other two Skinninggrove and Staithes which are a lot smaller, not much at either except the sea 🌊⛱ Robin Hoods Bay is also a great visit 👍👍👍💯🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
@@joline2730 thankyou so much for taking time to reply xx much appreciated.saltburn sounds lovely, ive been to whitby a few times and i love it so much x
brilliant thank you.dont ask me how or why but your vlogs really help my mental health, just seeing a different better way to life than the stress of normal life.
Thank you, I'm glad you like them 😊
It looks really beautiful. I'm originally from Sheffield and I will always have a soft spot for Yorkshire. I have lived in Norfolk for the past 15 years and have to say it's home to some of the most quietest and beautiful beaches in the UK.
have you been back to Sheffield in recent times? It's changed over the years. It's a great city.
Norfolk is a great place for beaches.
Most quiet please, not most quietest. You can say the quietest beach but using most is wrong.😇

I will have meant the viewers because I was alone on that trip
I was camping on skinning Grove beach last night and you can stay in the carpark overnight they was a few vans there
It's a great spot, I'll return soon to try it out
I've happened on your site a month ago and have been watching ever since. I love the interaction between you and Helen and look forward to riding along with you on your future travels.
Thank you, I'm glad you like the videos
Thrilled that you visited Skimmingrove. I only know of it because of a song on an album called "Wild Connections" featuring Rod Agent, Phil Collins and Gary Moore. Great to see it!!
id head straight to good old Scarborough and have a cracking night in the pubs there . plenty of overnight parking and good old tescos in the morning for a wash . lovely seeing some of the smaller villages along the East coast as ive only really visited whitby, scarborough & Brid before . some of those beaches were stunning and could rival a European beach anytime ❤❤❤
I live 5 minutes from Saltburn, it's such an amazing place, though I do avoid it in the summer holidays when it's really busy. The chippy by the pier is the best one outside of whitby, it has a restaurant upstairs with the most unbelievable sea views. The cafe camfields by the car park you were parked in has the best ice creams, and the valley gardens are really beautiful. I spent my childhood winkling along the coast every weekend with my dad, the rock pools at the bottom of huntcliff on Saltburn beach are brilliant. Skinningrove beach is beautiful, one of our best is Runswick bay - heaven
I saw the vlog title and wondered if it would be around Saltburn - I've been many times and love it there.
It's beautiful
Living the dream. You're giving out great locations for a day out with wife!
Cheers mate God bless 🙏
You're welcome
Both beaches look really lovely and scenic 👍
James I think your videos are getting better and better. It shows how much you enjoy making them. By the way at 02:25 in your video I thought it was Helen for a split second ! Keep it up mate ...Excellent stuff.
Thank you, glad you like them 😊
Go There Quite often some of my dad's Ashes were put off the Pier & behind the Pub ,He First Took Me Fishing off the Pier .
I like the almost empty beaches. Ours down South are so crowded, I suppose because they are so popular! Mind you, our beer is more expensive.
So many little gems on our fair isle.. It’s like they always say… ‘If we had the weather who would need to go abroad’? Bootiful, absolutely bootiful 😎👌🏻 👍🏻
Spent 2 years at school camp in the old POW camp on the headland overlooking Staithes. Wonderful that my 70 year memories still say I had a great time in 1953/54
Eyup James I agree that part of the Yorkshire coast is fantastic. there is also Marske beach a little higher up about 1.5 miles long I think and dogs are allowed all year round. That's some hill back up out o Staithes eh mate. Al Sithe
It is, I struggled a bit in my Flip flops 😊
Saltburn is beautiful. Skinningrove is one if the most special places i have ever been. The locals are very parochial...and scared that some developers might build hotels and spoil it. It needs protecting. In my loo i have a quote from folk singer Vin Garbutt...
"London?...its ok, but it's not Skinningrove"......watch "the North" by Michael Lazenby....great little film.
Thanks for the tip, I'll look it up 😊
Your living the dream, fair play 👍
I always love a day at Saltburn as it is always so relaxing.
It really is!
Aye that were right grand James and so peaceful ..You did not make one reference to Helen which kinda threw me because i know you always mention her so i hope she`s well and that we`ll be seeing you both together soon .. looking forward to your next instalment ..!
She'll be back soon. Got a cheeky European trip planned
Cheers James. ...
3.65 and proper pint glass. Lovely, proper fish and chips, only in Yorkshire. Thanks.
These parts of coastline from Redcar to whitby are all well known to teesiders and taken for granted, but its grim up north remember 😉 try the end of Saltburn pier on a frosty clear night in December watching the northern lights? I admire your van life , and enjoy your videos, all the best.
Thank you, that sounds wonderful
Grew up in Saltburn. Moved down south now, miss it so much. Awesome video
Thank you for the videos chap. From down south we will be looking at checking some of these beautiful places out. It’s amazing how we don’t travel to far with Bournemouth beach an hour away👍🏻
My pleasure!
I'm guessing you meant Banburgh and not Barnard James ,been many times and it's stunning
Haha yes. Just noticed the mistake 😂
Although it would be quite novel having a beach inland lol
There’s so many beautiful beaches in the UK, also lots of very interesting places to visit, enjoy your video.
Thank you
Skinningrove beach is called "cattersty sands" just around that headland to the south, maybe 2 miles from saltburn, you can walk around on the ebb tide. That pier used to be twice as long, used to fish on it as a kid, got damaged in a storm and the council demolished the damaged half. lovely little town.
Nice views from the funicular tramway over the coast. Looks like a beautiful place to visit. Also I just want to apologise for the comment I made afew videos back, I know you guys are lovely people and I really didn't mean to sound annoying or rude., sorry again and hope you can accept my apologies please.
Don't worry about it mate, it's really not a problem, things often get lost in translation 😊
Thanks for that lovely walk James better when it's nice weather on the coast oops great
Very nice, the weather makes a big difference.
It doesn't to me actually. I love the coast in all weathers and all four seasons. You can't get more atmospheric that a pub with a sea view, an open fire and the snow coming down.
It was good to see you up my neck of the woods . The beach next to Skiningrove is called Cattersty Beach and yes you can park up at the Skiningrove car park . On your way out of Skiningrove there is a pub called The Kaskayn that sells fantastic food , if you ever decide to eat there next time you visit make sure your hungry the portions are huge . I'm in Galloway at the moment , did you carry on up North because im sure l you passed me by near Clateringshaws Loch . BTW The Cat Nab is good but you should've gone to The Sea View 10/10 . Best Solo Vid Yet ! But l might be a bit biased 😉🤙
I saw a white deer next to clatteringshaws Loch...eerie.
Thanks for the tips. I've come further south now. I'm in Norfolk 😊
What gorgeous places. Great fish and chips and a good price, with the added bonus of no seagulls!!
We love Saltburn. We moved from Halifax West Yorkshire to near Thirsk 3 years ago, and Saltburn is only a 45 min drive now. We just love it!
Wouldn't mind going Saltburn for a weekend away, looks laverly. That sound of the sea running of the stones sounds like a million people clapping 😅
Never been James but with good weather it looks pretty decent place
This does look beautiful, but some would argue that the beach at Filey is even better
Thank you so much, we really enjoyed this video. You caught some amazing and beautiful scenery. This for me was the best, thank you. Loved that you filmed the shore rolling in over those rocks, so stunning. 3 words, untouched, natural and beautiful. Well done you.
My partner and I discovered your channel recently. We absolutely love your videos, makes me want to sell the house, buy a van and travel!
We’ll be in the UK (from Australia) next year to see the Isle of Man TT and I’m very tempted to take a few extra days to visit some of the beautiful spots you’ve showcased in your videos - especially the pubs. 🤣. Thanks so much and hopefully you’ll keep the videos coming 😊

I think this is your best vlog to date by far . I go up to Staithes, Saltburn , Whitby and anywhere along the east coast whenever i can. It's good for the soul. Im just as enthusiastic when i visit. Keep up the good work
Who needs abroad when you have stunning beaches and view's like that. The sound of the waves crashing always lulls me to sleep 😴 this was an amazing vlog James. Thanks for bringing us with you on your journey 😊

I used to go all night fishing on Saltburn pier when I was a lad back in the 1960's -70's I now live in Canada. Thank you.
Skinningrove beach looks amazing. We love Scarborough, so next time we are on the Yorkshire coast will definitely visit that beach. Glad the seagulls didn't try and pinch your fish and chips when you did your review!
🙋♀️ Wow James your eyesight must be fantastic if you can read the name on that ship ‼️‼️🤣🤣
How much was the Ice Cream, it looked terrific 😁
Saltburn has a music festival in August - you missed it 🙄
Otley has a music festival 15th September in the street and pubs 👍👍👍💯💯
Loved the beaches 👍💟
I forgot to put the price of the ice cream up, I think it was £2.40
@ 15:41 did you mean Bamburgh Castle beach? Not Barnard Castle beach? If there's a beach at Barnard Castle, climate change has arrived with vengeance and the polar ice cap has melted😂😂
Haha yes I did 😊
beach at Barnard Castle on the River!
I really look forward to your videos, so honest and down to earth. Keep up the good work
We stayed in the car park at Skiningrove beach last year without any issues. Lovely spot and not too busy. We toured Yorkshire stopping off everywhere you did and more and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I think I'll return sometime and try an overnight in that car park
Early for fish chips 730am or did i miss something during your walk they look good.

Saltburn is lovely. My husband and I have been only once, but loved it there. Had some delicious fish n' chips and ice-cream while there also. It was so good.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video! Born and bred on Teesside but living in Canada. I'm familiar with most of the places you visited but, I confess, I've never been to Skinningrove beach. Your video has brought back fond memories.
Wow what an amazing place in the last section of the vlog,I’ve been to Whitby but that is on another level, like going back in time.

Looks really nice. Glad you are enjoying it all.
That would be nice 😂

I agree it is the best beach. I came across it last year as I was on a road trip around Northumberland and North Yorkshire. What a gem of a find that was.
When the sun is shining, the beauty of it all takes some beating 👍great video.
Well, I just found your channel yesterday. What a breath of fresh air. You and your partner seem just lovely. I've also now put this place on my bucket list. Yorkshire is a bit of a drive from Norfolk but I see you've just done it. Next weekend off and I'm hitting the road. It looks absolutely idyllic.
Thank you, glad you like the video
When this vid started and you were walking on a pebble beach I thought is James having a laugh, but true to the title , it did look awesome...
Good evening guys, hope all is well, thank you for the upload 👍
Wow such gorgeous places there, fab. 😍
James, thanks for taking us with you. Really enjoyed listening to the sea lapping against the shore and the walk along the beaches. Absolutely fabulous. Then you took us to Staithes 😱☠️ and lots of bad memories came flooding back. Back in the 80's it was a different place. Stayed right in the village down on the right of that steep hill. Had to drive down to unload car. Me, my now husband and my sister all fell out! (I won't add to a long story) It was dark and stormy and the sea was in. I needed to get car back up to that carpark in the dark, on my own. Had to find and grovel to my sister to come with me. Drove down that narrow road. Came to short slipway leading into sea. ( I think you passed it on your walk and it looked as if it was no longer accessible???). Anyway, I did a three point turn into that slipway .Yikes! I can see the waves behind the car even now! It was very dark! Managed it and drove up to that bloody car park at top of village. Then my sister and I walked down to the place we were staying. I found the place very creepy back then. Some villagers used to wear old fashioned clothing, women in bonnets etc. Got in to the lodgings and I put a chair under the door handle. Then we all split off into different rooms. Spooky Nightmare! 😱😱😱😂😂😂
That sounds like something off a horror film 😳
@@bythecurb Believe me, it WAS! 🤣🤣😁
James; please tell us you weren't actually having a a wee while doing that piece to camera 😀😀😀

Love all these places, been to them all but but love to see them again as not been to any of them for a while. I'll def try that fish and chip place in saltburn next time. You look so happy on this video, van life is really suiting you! Going to watch the next one now, I'm playing catch up, been having a few days out myself, was in Brid and flamborough Saturday
Thank you, Im really happy at the moment :-)
Fabulous James - I've been to Ravenscar, Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby many moons ago but I'm really impressed with the places you've been on this trip. They remind me of the place I was born during the war - Morfa Nefyn on the Lleyn peninsula - Mountains, cliffs, clear green sea, puffins nesting in the cliffs and beautiful beaches. Furthermore, there is a pub on the beach - 'Ty Goch' superb beer and a lovely meal too !
I was last there in 2005 and had an unplanned meet-up with a work colleague from here in Essex. Blow me, when we got back to work our Deputy Head had visited the said pub too, unbeknown to us and during the same week!!!
Well recommended should you venture out of your beloved Yorkshire. 😎🍺
Thanks for the tip, I'll have a look 😊
Fantastic james your videos are given us ideas wer to go .. cheers
Great to hear!
I was just on my way to bed then saw this , I live in Saltburn , it s a very special place and we get loads of foreign visitors, in the summer holidays it,s heaving, but people come all year round.I love it, always new faces, always something going on.I saw a comment about the shingle beach, but on the other side of the pier and towards Marske it,s a beautiful sandy beach, a 10 minute walk through woods from my home brings me to the beach just past the beach huts and I,m down there most days with my dog..We have the Valley gardens with children,s play area and miniature railway and Italian gardens and woodland tea rooms and woodland centre where they hold events and santa comes at Christmas! Also gardens and seating areas at the other end if you go up the path left from the beach huts. Not to mention beautiful walks through the woods, and bandstand concerts in the summer.Skinningrove is beautiful too, but I don't have a car so don't get there much.I wondered what that ship was doing, it was out there for a while, so now I know, thank you!
Thank you, you live in a beautiful place

Have you considered living onboard a narrowboat? The long-term comfort levels would be much higher.
But much too restricting as to travel ... ☹
Who knows? Might try it sometime 😊
@@bythecurb The two *Best* beaches in the UK are Poole in Dorset and Portmerion in Wales - over a mile long of golden sands - fabulous 💯💯💯 (just my opinion, of course)
@@joline2730 There are 4700 miles of navigable canals in the UK (mainly in England.) I'm not sure I'd use the word 'restrictive.' The thing is you're not chained to the boat. You can moor and then explore towns and cities. You can take train rides and bus rides to places and if you moor in a marina you know your home is as safe as it can be. You can go away for days, weeks or months. The positives are that a boat is a tiny apartment unlike a van which is not really designed to be lived in. You also have to deal with other idiots on the road in a van. that'd piss me off. I like the quiet life these days and driving on UK roads is the polar opposite of a quiet life. Too many idiots. I'm just thinking long term. I think a narrowboat would be more realistic and conducive to a calm, comfortable and enjoyable life.
Staithes - Been many times, but I will never forget the first time we went, we drove all the way down in a great big Volvo 4×4, got to the " Cod and Lobster " and got stuck, cars coming the other way, nightmare. Wonder how many people have done that. 🤣
I think quite a few because they've put a warning sign at the top now! 😳
