Such an ethereal experience listening to this was. A splendid performance indeed, it set the perfect mood for the season of the south westerlies.
With each swara, I could feel the clouds approaching towards a quenched landscape. The taans bringing a flash of lightning, the low, alto vocals at 0:55 mimicking the stately thunderclap. The light outpour with the onset of the chorus, the sound of the hi-hats and snares resembling the pitter-patter of the raindrops on the roof and the dancing of my soul in the precipitation of overjoyed emotions of bliss and peace, but also the reminiscence of playing in the rain. The performance created an atmosphere, a picturesque surrounding with dark clouds, the vocals feeling like a cool breeze, the air filled with the earthly fragrance of geosmin. The experience was similar to reading a Ruskin Bond book. It could perfectly complement "The Blue Umbrella" or "The Coral Tree" . Such is the power of this beautiful raag Miyan Malhar, that it evoked such emotions even without words.
Every version and arrangement of this song, whether it is folk-style, a classical setting or Celtic, with layering of an orchestra of musicians, or this live performance with minimalist production, is uniquely amazing. As I wait for the monsoons, this performance will bless me with blissful showers of happiness. Thank you for uploading this. Listening to this live would have been such a surreal experience.
