Wrong time for Sydney Hunter.
Just a heads up, chapters don't seem to be working, seemingly cause "Sydney Hunter and the Caverns of Death" is on there at 29:50 instead of 39:50.
Ultracore is also on Switch and PS4, same can be said about Xeno Crisis and Micro Mages, too.
Cheater :)
thanks so much for playing Sweetleaf you sweet little gamer :,) I hope im able to improve the game to a point where it’s not so confusing! you’re da bestest!
im just oh so slightly sad i didn’t make the doors more obvious so you could’ve played the tutorial xc would’ve explained a lot lole
Devin Chat! Thanks for such a great game!
It's so surreal finally seeing someone big other than the grumps acknowledge Battle kid. It certainly deserves it imo.
It’s very good and well done but fucking impossible like bordering on unfair hard.
I never expected to see a spiritual successor to "Adventure" for Atari 2600 of all things, but Duck Attack was pretty much that to a tee
Nah, if you want that, look up Dragonstomper. It's basically Adventure with streamlined RPG gameplay a la Dragon Quest adapted astoundingly well for the Atari's control limitations (and it may or may not be the first Console RPG ever. We aren't ever 100% sure but it's the oldest known example to pass the Duck Test).
I would love to see some variety streamer check it out just for the sake of seeing and bringing attention to it. Imo it's the kind of game that belongs on Punching Weight.
Mind you, for a bit of context (and because I'm a freak for this kind of stuff), the reason no other attempt at making a D&D style RPG/Adventure game on the 2600 (official or homebrew) even comes close to Dragonstomper is because it *_isn't actually possible to make on a 2600 cart alone._* The game's publisher Starpath manufactured a peripheral called the Supercharger effectively allows the 2600 to read data booted off of cassettes, giving the developers *49 times the data to work with.*
Basically, it turned the 2600 from a toy computer into something comparable with the systems that CRPGs like Ultima, Wizardry, Rogue, Telengard, etc. started on. As such, the game is fully open world (including houses, castles, huts, shops, etc.), random encounters, free movement with a menu based command system a la DQ and later console RPGs, dungeons, bosses, everything you would expect from an oldschool 8/16-bit console or CRPG... on a 2600, programed by *ONEGUY.* And unlike games like Wizardry or Rogue, the game has actual color graphics and sprites, and even bits of music. It's all basic by modern standards, but this was absurd at the time, especially on a console contrasted next to games like Adventure or Swordquest which even contemporary critics noted.
It's an insane game that realistically shouldn't exist, but does. And it reviewed fantastically at the time, but due to the whole peripheral requirement and release date it languished in obscurity until the age of internet detectives, journalists, retro enthusiasts, and Wikipedia trying to establish a video game fossil record. If you're at all in to video game and/or RPG history, it's a fucking marvel and plays astoundingly well for how limited it was forced to be.
Sorry for the lecture, just thought I should explain why the hell it's a big deal. Also, as said, I go gongaga for shit like this (hence I watch shit like Punching Weight and Video Game Historian).
I mean, Zelda is basically polished and expanded Adventure
I just got to that point in the video and you're right, it is very reminiscent of Adventure.
@@warbossgegguz679 Thanks for that actually, nice bit of history I didn't know about
*Duck Attack* IS based on *Adventure* or on a similar engine
The duck is a reference to how the dragons somehow looked like, well, ducks.
You can even see the original square clipping out of the robot
i remember watching a video on how micromages was made, and it made me get into making nes homebrew
Watching Vinny get incredibly pissed at the first *8* minutes of Battle Kid with the memory of Arin’s rage at it was amazing
1:08:12
That is a scarily impressive Riki impression binyot
I think he did better in the last Clubhouse stream, but he’ll probably get more used to it once he hears his voice more.
@@studio_1 He got the rolling 'r's and the voice crack spot on tho 🤣
Vinny can do it on his own!
I screamed when I heard it
Fun fact: You can buy Micro Mages on a real, working NES cart.
That fact was decidedly unfun
That is cool!
@@kimgkomg ???
@@kimgkomg I've decided your comment isn't worthwhile.
@@DemonSnacks go fun yourself
I'm gonna leave some timestamps here for my and a couple others' enjoyment. Enjoy.

7:50
6:20 sounded like that pron jumpscare
Ammagon it really does
Too bad we wont get vinny screaming at plant boss
He'd never be able to make it that far, and be able to stream the other games in time.
RED PLANT

@@senorbones1869 PURPLE PLANT
Let alone while ad-libbing stories, many of which are very similar to the story immediately preceding it
Catching a fullsauce upload this early truly is a magical experience
Micro Mages' development is definitely neat. They fit the whole game into just 40kb! They have a video on CZcams. It's very interesting!
40KB actually. (8KB for the CHR ROM and 32KB for the PRG ROM)
And they did that because 40KB was the max the NES could address without mapper chips to switch memory banks, 40KB was the original limit for the NES. And they wanted to try to make the best game they could within that restriction.
@@Cyber_Akuma I couldn't remember off the top of my head if it was 40k or 80k. Corrected!
20:13 "Trolling" is a way to fish. That's why people who fall for it have "taken the bait".
So that's why "trolling for complements" also exists and has nothing to do with being an asshole on the internet.
Lol at 8-bit Avril 14th playing at 9:06.
it's a good 8 bit recreation as well!
Knew I wouldn't be the only one to notice that.
i was surprised so many people in chat knew it
Vinny: *plays Battle Kid*
Me: *flashbacks to Game Grumps*
God I really wish Ross had been there during Battle Kid to give Vinny the same hope he gave Arin
Sweetleaf has so much style, even with the NES's limitations.
It really uses the limitations to it's advantage.
dude ... thanks a ton!
Was awesome seeing Vinny play two of the games I had backed on Kickstarter (Tanglewood and Xenocrisis) during this segment.
*BLUE PLANT, RED PLANT*
Jennifer dumped me
I knew a guy named Jesus, I asked “Hey isn’t your name pronounced Jesús?” And he said, “ No, my mom is very religious.” I said, “Wouldn’t that have prevented her from giving you the name Jesus?!” And he said, “FUCK!!”
PURPLE PLANT
So weird how the glitched music for Ultracore was better than the actual song, it reminded me of Metroid
9:20 the music is a rendition of aphex twin - avril 14th ... kinda neat that they stuck that in there.
thank you :D
Sounds kinda weird in 8-bit
Marcel Lindenau hi
I noticed it too! Love that feeling when you finally figure out the song
53:35 For somebody with that much music knowledge.. I am disappoint booty
30:20
_Somebody get this freakin' duck away from me!_
Very good
Summa my busses!
That's gotta be what inspired that game.
Keep in mind modern homebrews are made with a far less restrictive environment, and a much more modern understanding of the hardware, than they had back then. Nobody was experienced enough or had enough time for most games to be this quality
That first game, that part with the snail, and the environments, kinda reminded me of this flash (?) game on Kongregate/Armor Games called Snailiad. It was pretty fun and not too long of a game and itd be really cool to see Vinny play it, but, maybe one day..i bet he'd like it too..
Agreed, would love to see him check it out some time as well. Maybe someday in one of the flash segments...
The only reason I know of Snailiad

That -PINGAS- Pringles homebrew for MD was the second MD homebrew title that I played in my life, the first was Ultimate Tetris (programmed by Brazilian dev btw).
I never thought I’d see Battle Kid again. I feel old.
I was looking up info about Halo 2600. No mention of nudity anywhere or even Cortana for that matter. You do unlock a "Legendary" difficulty mode for completing it a certain way (or just completing it idk). More chat japeposting it seems.
did anyone else notice that an 8 bit version of Avril 14th played during the beginning of sweetleaf?
"why does this fox look depressed" well first of all thank you for asking about my fursona,
Look at what you've done. youve ruined a perfectly good fursona. Look, it's got depression.
Bruh. BiNgO y DeW yOo LUt FerRIES oN uCHuBe.
That was sarcastic if you couldn’t tell.
@@mdaily318 ok
23:42 i was so enraptured by the Halo theme in Atari
then seeing the graphics 10 seconds later made my sides hurt
52:49 trying really hard not to call it the Crazy Frog Music lol
Vinny is a very talented musician. In this one stream, he invented a new genre (crustcore) and performed covers of at least five other songs in it.
By the way guys, S.C.A.T. stands for Special Cybernetics Attack Team.
I mean, what do you think we'll interpret it into?
good Vinny yell at 6:21
EDIT: and another at 7:51
"all one of you asked for it"
This is somehow always the reaction people have when they do something I want, lmao
a vod just in time to sleep to
Although these are homebrew, a bunch of these have commercial releases on Steam, consoles, and even physical releases on both their retro systems and modern consoles.
Ultracore and Xenocrisis have enhanced versions on modern consoles too, they do more than simply emulate the game, but had CD quality audio or enhanced control schemes and HUDs.
totally not relevant, but does anybody remember the homebrew channel jingle on the wii? that was my JAM
@Chinmay Walimbe shut up
Yes
Yeah, twas a banger
54:34 Local Italian man trying to jazz in stream
I played that Halo 2600 back when I was undergoing residential mental treatment, the religious group leader there had a modded Atari 2600 that ran homebrew and I was lucky enough to play on it. Fun times.
Vinny not acknowledging Avril 14th broke my heart
Do not presume that he knows what that is.
@@OtakuUnitedStudio claims to know music, plays recent NIN on stream, but cant recognize one of the most iconic songs in electronic music? Anyway I didnt expect him to lol
If there is one game out there that might be able to make Vinny vomit on the carpet out of frustration and anger like when he was a kid, it's Battle Kid.
Also, that enemy in Tanzer is a carriage with a baby face because it is a miscarriage.
7:46 -yiss! WHOOO!
*battle kid starts* oh god *game grumps flash backs*
Even in Vinny stream... Popcorn.
I actually backed Micro Mages but I never got my copy after it released, I hope you enjoyed it though
Hi, I was working on Micro Mages with my friend and we are sincerely sorry for that problem. I will contact you in PM that we can check all the details together.
I got a bowl of cereal during the BRB but chat made it soggy by making me laugh so hard that I had to set the bowl aside for ten minutes.
*popcorn remix plays*
Vinny: is this the six flags music?
It sounded like Popcorn. The classic.
please do a part 2 viñy
I would spend any amount of money to see Vinny attempt Battle Kid
holy shit vinny thank you for playing sweetleaf:)
cloudy is REAL
@@marcellindenau5256 nope. not real. no.
I sometimes fear that the vetting team may dislike gems you would love and your audience would love
I helped with the pack and after being cut down for a shorter stream time all the games in it were shown. Heck one of the vetters even added Sweetleft.
Garfield is the grandmaster of Ultracorrrrrrre!
Hey, I had an Atari when the ps1 was available. And we loved it.
51:52 add to spin comp
*hears battle kid*
oh
oh no
10:01
the song exist and it's Avril 14th of Aphex Twin!
Ah yes, Xeno Crisis Chronicles
I just want to bring to everybody's attention that the URL for this video says "Fur" followed by "OwQ"
is "OwQ" the emote for a furry/catgirl crying tears of joy?
Isn't a boatload of OSTs from Capcom on Spotify now?
When Vinny streams these kinds of old games that were made by people, it always makes me kinda wish i'd have made something on RPG maker or Yoyo games, not necessarily for it to get on the stream but like, i always get kinda jealous when i see people share their history with a crap game they made and have that as a memory and it makes me go "i wish i had that too..."
It's never too late to start making things :)
I'm looking forward to seeing today's animal crossing stream getting uploaded. I didn't get to watch all of it.
My new favorite Pringles flavor is brack papper
Oh yeah!! Nice
animal: *walks on two legs*
Vinny: *i don't like it*
Vinny's Riki voice is shockingly good.
Is that Wolfling music supposed to be a rendition of the "Are You Afraid Of The Dark?" theme? If not, it's pretty damn close.
Tbh I kinda prefer the glitched music then the actual soundtrack on ultracore
Sydney hunter timestamp is wrong btw
Las Vegas is like the 80s, only instead of arcade cabinets, every store has a bunch of slot machines
sidney hunter... and that boomerang... hey isnt that pretty close to spelunky... and also the level end screen...
Look at master chiefs leggys go!
Arkagis is basically top-down Doom.
First game feels like I Wanna Be The Homebrew
Huh, wasn't expecting that. Super Boss Gaiden uses the font from Xenogears.
aphex twin reference around 9:00
11:31 Idk why, but all I'm hearing is Vinny's troll song.
Lol it does
accurate Riki voice
RED PLANT! BLUE PLANT!! PURPLE PLANT!!!!
For crying out loud, no one got this man LIZARD?
01:03:38 Wario elevator.
"Imagine all those people that collected beanie babies thinking they'd be worth something"
*clicks "I'm in this video and I don't like it"*
lol did you actually do that
The rarest thing I own is the super mario brothers super show on DVD in (used but) very good quality. It's not that expensive but like. I don't really own much lol
Wow, the story in Halo 2600 is WAY better than in Halo 5's!
70+ mins of Homebrewery. Who needs corporate booze n' pops when Vinesauce makes and home-produced drinks. of course, I have to pay for the drinks. 3 boxes would do fine.
38:2 Yep. Vin's' ready for Cub's Adventure. by burning the PnP Console.
Barack Opappma
Ultracore reminds me of Turrican
Check Elliot quest for switch it's very similar to zelds 2 good game recommend
18:12 Vinny has to remember the bones shoot what?
Yes, Binyot
Vinny needs to mess around with free vst plugins, I mean... it’s kinda related to homebrew and whatever. And plus, we get to make remixes of audio and shit.
hearing the chat make game grumps references brings me much joy
Halo 2600 = AVGN's Atari Nerd Seal Approval.
brack papper
Now I'm not saying tanglewood art was made by a furry but let's just say i would not be shocked to learn it was :)
I hope Vinny comes back to Atari 2600 homebrew... there are so many better options than the games he played, the community is so vibrant
Battle Kid is an example of how to not do a good rage game
