Thanks man! I am a beginner leather worker and I started a project which might be more than I could chew. I needed to stretch out some leather for a cover of a book I making and this really helped!
I bought a really nice hand tooled super thick leather holster at a yard sale for next to nothing. When I got home and tried to slide my Uberti Cattleman into it, it could only go a couple inches. No wonder it was so cheap. I googled it and saw this. I literally dipped the holster into the mixture for a few seconds and after triple bagging my pistol into 3 zip lock freezer bags, it slipped in and with some wiggling was able to get it all the way. Fantastic!
I've got a uberti 45 also stainless 7 inch barrel I just shot it for the first time since I bought it brand new mind you I send 25 rounds down range and I didn't hit anything just 1 really close Rick asha man what a learning curve this is going to be.
@@angelaavila3783 it did work. I used a spray bottle. My huaraches are pink and it did change the color somewhat so I put it on all of the shoe so it would match. Also the pieces that needed to stretch the most did get thinner in width but it worked and they fit now.
Ha! Thanks 🙏 Of all the borrowed words in our language, I was surprised to learn that “scosche” actually comes from Japanese “skoshi” meaning “just a little”. Cheers!
Very cool video! I'm curious what you would do if the leather on your car dashboard had shrunk due to lack of care and sunlight. How would you try to stretch it
So i'm working on my truck interior After doing the outside with 9 coats of paint and wetsanding and polishing (Rootbeer) Bought a hide of Distressed Pigskin leather ...looking like Walnut brown and black stain rub which is a oil base rub I had cut a pattern for the Windshield pillars too short Forgetting the edge that wraps around the sides 1/4" per side ..looks like your help may be the ticket ...thanks
Great explanation thank you but will it work on my pointy low heeled shoes, good leather, but pinch my two toes, the fourth and the fifth on left foot, and cause me corns and pain. Length is fine, width is horrid. Anyway, where do I apply the water/alcohol mix, inside or outside of the shoe?
I made a card carrying wallet, the problem is, I made the card pockets just a TAD bit smaller, in width, can I use this mixture and put some cards in it to let it stretch out? It is veg tan crazy horse leather, unfinished.
I have a black e brake boot with red stitching that I just had installed on a Mustang that is tight will this affect the appearance of the outside of the leather after I do this or not, also does heat work?
MMO is a lubricant and a good one when used as directed. I prefered it when I was using air tools. But it's NOT a rust remover. It works great as a surfactant when abrasive cleaning rusty tools but the MMO isn't removing the rust, is it? It's just floating away the crud.
Thank you. I am trying to stretch several leather wrist bands that I put together. I gained a lot of weight and my wrists are bigger then before. It’s muscle weight of course. Lol!
Well i bought some motorcycle gloves (alpinestars) but it's too small for me and i'm a bit worried to put isopropyl alcohol on it cause it sometimes removed quite a lot of leather dye... But it looks like it's a good methode not to damage gloves etc..
Hey Lou, I'm sorry for the delay getting back to you on this. I really have only used it a couple times on thick-ish leather, but I don't see why it wouldn't work on the thin stuff. It may work even better on thinner leather. I'd say try it on one inconsequential piece and if it works then sally forth. Let me know how it goes!
Yes, it’s like they don’t use the same ruler, even when they write centimeters or inches, everything is too small. I’m beginning to think that they measure the item itself and those measurements, rather than the body parts that go in the item (the hands, legs, hips, waist, torso, and arms that go into the gloves, pants, tops, dresses), as everyone else in the world does. But even then, their sizes are 3 to 5 sizes or more too small. On longsleeve shirts, the biceps are about the same circumference as the wrist as if they have no muscles at all. No shocker that their belts are also tiny child sizes.
So I'm a first timer. I got a leather Hyde from a thrift store like a trophy rug but in cow form and it was really wrinkled so my dumbass was like "just iron it" and it wrinkled more from the heat. Spent some time on Google and a diy site said soak it in warm water and flat dry it. Millisecond I pull it out of the water it disintegrated into pieces.....what went wrong? Thoughts?
Jerry, I've never tried it so I wouldn't really feel comfortable giving you a recommendation. The thing to keep in mind is what does "finished" mean? is there some sort of sealer applied or dye or something? If its just leather burnished to a shine, there should be nothing for the alcohol to harm but It's really hard to say in this case. Thanks a bunch for watching!
Do you think this would work if I dipped my leather waistband that is stitched to my skirt in this as it's 1 inch too small? It's a beige dyed leather.
Great Video! :) And I have a question. I have a wallet made out of leather and the slots for the cards have become pretty loose. Is there any way to fix that?
+Chem1456 I've not done any intentional leather shrinking but it seems sometimes when you get leather wet (just with water) it'll shrink. I don't know that it'll stay that way though. Thanks for watching!
That's hard to say for sure, Rhonda. It depends on the dye used on the leather and a few other variables. I'd do like they tell you on cleaning solutions and test it on a corner or unseen area before going full steam on it. Good luck!
Hey bud, the comments section for the final axe video is disabled:/ As to the 19.99 on ebay: I hope that you're talking about the starting bid....cuz it will sell for MUCH more than that...anywho, that's my two cents:) thanks for the videos! -Shane
+anaya51 thats weird about the comments, There was on posted just before this on and one a little while after. Thankyou for bringing it to my attention. Also 19.99 will be the starting bid on ebay, historically, you do better starting off low and letting a handful of folks bid on it rather than coming out of the gate with a higher price hoping someone will bid. Thanks again Shane Cheers ~Z
I got a steal on some leather pants today for twenty bucks. Just a tad tight in the waist. I'm trying to think of a way to get the to fit my waist. There's a gal on youtube who stretches her leather jackets out by putting them in a washing machine, (yes, what they tell you not ever to do with leather) with just fabric softener and just pulls it and puts it on does the "bodybuilder" poses and stretches it out in that way and also just physically stretches it where it needs it and then lets it air dry. She doesn't say anything about reapplying leather conditioner, but I plan on doing that. Thank you in advance.
All these people in the comments talking about toolbags and boots ect and here i am trying to fix the collar my girlfriend got me because it's like 1 inch to short for my neck.
7 years later, you just helped so much! Thank you
Thanks man! I am a beginner leather worker and I started a project which might be more than I could chew. I needed to stretch out some leather for a cover of a book I making and this really helped!
Clear explanation. Quick, easy and working solution. Thanks!
Thank you! I’m a gymnasts and I have to break in my new grips! This helped by a long shot!
Thank you!
Trying this on a pair of unlined leather gloves that have thumbs too small for my turbo-thumbs.

well done mate, to the point and helpful.
I’m about to put this to the test on my new narrow huaraches!! Thanks!!
Did it work?? My huaraches are a little small for me and I want to stretch them out

Yes! Now I don't have to cut a hole where my pinky toe rubs! That kind of made my new boots look not so new anymore thanks man! LOL
I love the "scoch" at the end. Thanks!

Does this work with old leather that has shrunken over time or will it simply tear?
I have a black e brake boot with red stitching that I just had installed on a Mustang that is tight will this affect the appearance of the outside of the leather after I do this or not, also does heat work?

Isn't alcohol sold in different strengths? If you have a 50% alcohol, do you use less water? Thanks.
imma try this on my boots, thankss
It works! And so simple! Thanks man
you can also use window spirit.
i have a purple dyed leather harness and im trying to make the collar longer, would the alcohol effect the dye?
Hi, will the alcohol have any effect on the colour of the shoe ? Coz I’m thinking of dipping the whole boots. It’s a black and white loafers.
My friend is wondering if this same trick works to increase length for other body parts?
Any recommendations on stretching the waist band of leather pants?
If my leather bracelet is to stretch and I want to do the opposite. What do you recommend?
A little late to the party... But is it possible to stretch the length only on a vintage schott rancher vest ( rough leather)... Thank you
Hey Can I used this on my motorcycle jacket
A bit late but just incase, how long do you soak it on alcohol solution?
Thanks 🙏
will the alcohol mix have any ill effect on the leather (cracking, discoloration, etc). Thanks.
Thank you. I am trying to stretch several leather wrist bands that I put together. I gained a lot of weight and my wrists are bigger then before.
It’s muscle weight of course. Lol!
I also have a leather cuff that is too small! How did this work out for you?
HOW DOES IT WORK WHEN YOU STRECH A RETENSION STRAP ON A HOLSTER?
I have a leather Kangaroo belt, will this method work for me? Thank you.
How to make leather shrink ?
Does this work on a leather hat?
Well i bought some motorcycle gloves (alpinestars) but it's too small for me and i'm a bit worried to put isopropyl alcohol on it cause it sometimes removed quite a lot of leather dye... But it looks like it's a good methode not to damage gloves etc..
did you already tried it? i have also bought a leather motorcycle gloves and its kinda small for my size
Would this work on a leather jacket??
👍I have a Uno One Bracelet gonna try it NOW😊
would this work if you want to stretch leather over a ball? Not the entire ball just that bit of curvature.
Thanks Zack, before I start, does it work with thinner black crafting leather? I have some purses for a magic routing that need to be bigger.

Awesome I'm glad to hear it!
can you stretch a leather cow boy belt? if so how?
Thank you...it worked!!!. Got a belt on Ebay...unbeknownst to me..Made in China.. well, their Large is more like our XSmall...go figure.
Hey Sissy, I'm so glad to hear that it worked for you!

leather jacket. will this work.
Perfect thanks
Will this work for an electronic tag on your ankle though lol
Under appreciated comment
Given a leather bracelet that is to small. Do you know if the alcohol is ok to use on a finished leather piece?
Jerry, I've never tried it so I wouldn't really feel comfortable giving you a recommendation. What alcohol?
Do you think this would work if I dipped my leather waistband that is stitched to my skirt in this as it's 1 inch too small? It's a beige dyed leather.
It should, although I would be a little concerned about the leather bleeding its color to the skirt.
Why do you need to use alchohol? Can't you just use water? Or Vodka and water? What was the type of alchol you used please?
How about a leather jacket
Can you do this with dyed leather... I have a pair or dyed red authentic leather sandals and I don’t want to ruin ‘Em !
alcohol will ruin the dye maybe just use water?
will vodka work?
Will it work on my belt I need about 2” haha
does this work on jackets? lamb skin leather?
I don't see why it wouldn't, but truthfully I haven't tried it on anything but strap.

My shoes shrunk and now barely fit
hey, I'm trying to stretch a leather choker I bought and I was wondering of this would be okay
It should be just fine, although if there is any dye in the leather, I cant say for sure how it'll affect it.
Zack Of All Trades thanks!

I also have a leather choker, please tell me how you would stretch it, it's kinda difficult
Ok what about a suede jacket
Will the water and alcohol stain the leather....or boot
