For someone who went straight to the books and did not draw inspiration from Julie Andrew's character, I think she captured Mary Poppins PERFECTLY. I agree with what she said....I did not know I needed Mary Poppins again until I saw her in this movie. But I am glad she's back.
I have to say, I wasn’t sure about a Mary Poppins sequel at first but from what I can see, they treated this film as well as the original with the upmost respect. If anyone can be this generation’s Mary Poppins, it’s definitely Emily Blunt.

The idea of a sequel is not new. The first film was based on a book, and that book was one of a whole series of books. There were eight books in the series. I read them when I was a child.

The fact that Emily went straight to the original books instead of the film PL Travers detested means the movie is in great hands.
She also didn’t want to in her words “A Imitation Of Julie cause nobody can touch her version”.
A lot of the cast went to the books instead because they said they were terrified to have the movie in their heads because it’s such a part of their childhoods they didn’t want to feel like they were doing a copy.
@@EricAriel5 , Emily is right the movie wouldn't work doing a imitation of Julie Andrews.. Emily had to make it her own.. and also that is the reason why Julie Andrews did not want to do a Cameo in the movie. fans of Julie Andrews would be looking for her in the movie even if she did a new character they would see her as Mary Poppins and focus on her not Emily.
Julie Andrews didn't want to take anything away from Emily's performance as Mary Poppins.

I entered the movie theater as an adult and left the theater as a child. LOVED IT! Bravo Emily, Bravo Lin and Bravo tho the cast and director. A movie truly to be remembered. Oscar contenders for Best Movie Best Actress Emily and Lin for best actor
Best Score and Best Editing and also Sound I am sure....this one could win 5 or 6 Oscars easy
People are ALWAYS going to be protective over an original and timeless classic. However, this isn’t a remake. It’s a sequel...an entirely new script written how many years later? Times are completely different now. However, the people who worked on this film? Love and respect the original. These are all die hard fans of the original film and have done their absolute best to conduct themselves in a way that adds to the franchise, not diminishes it.
They’re good people and extraordinarily talented. Why does it matter if people are only here for Lin or Emily or the legacy? What matters is that the film was handled with extreme love and care and it absolutely shows. It wasn’t just thrown together in an attempt to destroy the legacy.
And with Dick Van Dyke eagerly wanting to be involved as well as Ms Andrews declining to be a part of it because she didn’t want to take away from Emily’s spotlight just truly shows that even the originals have given their stamp of approval. So why waste time and negative energy on “oh well Mary would never do that or this will never live up to the original” and so on? It’s not meant to. It’s a new chapter in Mary’s story and it should be embraced as such.
Vanessa Sanchez True I thought the original is better but I did enjoy myself seeing this sequel. The effort is easily forgivable for the 54 year wait.

Absolutely agreed. When I first heard they gonna make a new Mary Poppins movie I thought "omg.. who couldn't possibly match Julie Andrews as Mary" and then I read it's Emily Blunt and it took a load off my mind!

What Emily said about someone not knowing how much he/she needed Mary Poppins before she came out of the cloud literally happens to me. I didn’t know I needed her that much. Tbrh that was one of the earliest moments of overwhelming feeling I get while watching, it made tear up in some kind of way. It’s a complete joy to have her returning and she makes me fall in love with her in a thousand new ways I never knew existed.
And what Lin said blew me away equally because of how true it is; in 2,5 hours, I was turned into a child again. And a part of that child lingers in me now after I left the theater. I just hope I don’t forget:)

Mary Poppins Returns is a fabulous movie and Blunt is amazing. Took me back to my childhood ... loved every minute of the movie!
I've had my doubts about this movie, Julie is the Mary in my mind...
Until i watched the movie... Such different Mary's but both will forever be the Mary I will remember. Full faith.
The original Jane from 1964, Karen Dotrice, is the one who asks for directions from the new Jane on the street on Cherry Lane. She goes away saying: "Many thanks, sincerely." Which is part of the lyrics of the advertisement for a nanny that she and Michael sing to their parents in the original.

The problem with this movie is that the audience is expecting the old songs to come back. Not like little tunes or lines from the original, but full blown songs. It's like the audience wants a remake, and not a sequel. I saw the movie, and it was amazing. Words can't describe it. You just have to go see it, but if you DO go see it, you need to go in with the mindset of, "okay, this is a SEQUEL to the original movie, and not a remake, so Step in Time, Feed the Birds, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, etc... aren't in this. New songs, new cast, somewhat similar premise, but other than that it is a COMPLETELY different movie."

I am only 7 years old when mary poppins was played on tv ... on disney channel(here in the philippines) and i swear mary poppins has a spcieal place in my heart... this is the one i always watched and makes me feel happy when i'm sad😁

Actually most people on Twitter are extremely excited to see Lin as well! For me, I'm really excited to see them both, since they're incredible actors and definitely does have chemistry as a pair.

I loved the first movie. Played it gray when I had it on tape and DVD. Super excited for this movie! I am excited to see Emilie in her full glory and Lin being in there and Dick van Dyke!
Just seen the new Mary Poppins film and it was excellent, a sheer joy to watch. You just feel that nothing can go wrong in Mary's world. You can tell that this film was made with love and care. Music and dance numbers are brilliant.

Unbelievably enough I cried thru the entire movie. I didn't know what it will do to me. And also didn't realize how much the first Mary Poppins impacted me indeed

Disney needs to make more movies like this....the old school way with the animated characters

Emily and lin were the only reason why I watched mary poppins 1 and now 2 in the first place. And although emily blunt is seriously my obsession I just love how smug julie andrews mary poppins is. Mary poppins returns is a bit "do whatever you want" type. Just my thoughts. I still smiled all throughout the movie. I'm so glad I watched it💕

Marry Poppins is surely not that kind of franchise, that can bump up the billions...it would be seomthing of an CBM genre, mostly Marvel Universe...also the likes of Avatar, Star Wars (before it turned to crap!) and some other groundbreaking blockbusters...all of these made billions (even multiple of them!)...although thats very rare and Marry Poppins most definitely not going to make even one billion let alone multiple billions at the BO...

Booked my ticket! Mary Poppins was and still is one of my favourite movies to date. Julie Andrews is my idol and honestly couldn’t think of anyone else to take over the role but I think Emily Blunt is going to do an amazing job! Can’t wait😂
