I made a “BIG” mistake | junior doctor | South African medical intern | intern diaries

  • Hi friends !
So far my internal medicine block is going well.
I did encounter a situation that was totally blown out of proportion but we learned from it and I hope that you learn from this mistake too.
I feel that this block is relatively better than my rotations through OBGYN- our seniors give us way more support and teach us when ever they can.
In this block the doctors are more like family compared to the toxicity in the last block. Everyone helps each other and everyone is super kind and friendly.
Internal medicine calls are not as crazy as obgyn calls. We do get time to rest and I’m so grateful for that.
    Thank you for watching
    Till next time 💜

    Take aways from this video
    1. Save the consultant’s/ HOD information immediately at introductions
    2. Be polite always, you never know who you’re talking to
    3. Always have a lock in your call bag
    4. Use your downtime during calls wisely
    5. Keep calm and level headed, even people with MBCHB’s have issues
    6. Rest if you need to
    7. Find joy in the small things (Why are you running)

I'm sorry you went through that. There is nothing wrong with your text, you were advocating for your patient, I honestly don't understand why they thought you were being disrespectful 😵.

Ay wow some people are so negative, sorry that this happened I'm so sorry. I hope that people stood up for you. That Dr should be embarrassed not you.

🌺 we live and learn and yes to answer your question, my lovely teammate spoke up for me but they were still not hearing us 😂! She felt so bad about it that she brought me a plant the next day.

I'm so shook, I read your message multiple times and I don't understand how he misconstrued that to sound rude. That Commserve is the problem, probably was having a bad day. But yeah unfortunately Jr doctors basically get shit all the time and have to suck it up.

Honestly I read that text and the tone to me didn't sound disrespectful, and what happened to kindness, pull someone to the side if you feel they did you wrong instead of calling them out in front of a whole lot of other doctors.😔🙁

Totally agree with you about pulling the person aside or at least making light of the situation 😥 oh well- we live and learn!

That comm serve doctor was awful! your message was not disrespectful at all (nor do I think calling the HOD by name some grave error that requires a public callout in the main group). Going on and on without even messaging you privately is such a childish and impolite thing to do. The dr being a comm serve only makes it even worse tbh

Don't bit yourself up to much. At the end of the day we are all humans and all humans make mistakes. I didn't find anything disrespectful in your text.

Do senior woman doctors behave like this? Or just the chauvinistic senior male doctors with a chip on their narcissist shoulders? 🙄

But yeah, text are most times interpreted far different than what was intended. It happens all the time on social media.
Off topic but what's your "go to" music genre? Sounds like you like hip hop 🔥

Hey, final year med student here 🙋🏾‍♀️.
Uhhmmm, I don't. Most universities in South Africa actually stopped "that programme" a couple of years ago.
