- UPDATE - This battle took place in Xi'An zoo in China. This lion is 20 - 30 kilograms (44 - 66 pounds) heavier than the tiger according to the zoo keepers of Xi'An zoo. They are both the same age because they were actually raised together as cubs. The tiger was originally heavier than the lion because tigers develop faster relative to their age, but this lion has caught up in size after they both reached their prime. This lion is indeed more muscular than the average African lion in the wild as you can see from the thick and defined thighs but it has deformed hind legs, which negates the advantage that he would've gain from his extra weight. The lion started attacking the tiger because the female lions were in heat, therefor the lion was simply treating the male tiger as competition , the same way that he would've treat another male lion in this kind of scenario.
Male Lions and Male tigers get along extremely well when they are raised from birth together in captivity. Things only get bad if you throw a female lion/tiger in the mix because that creates competition for mating. If the roles were reversed, and the tiger was crippled, you would immediately say that this fight was very unfair. What I've noticed the most is that after every attack usually initiated by the lion, the lion immediately begins to breath heavy whereas the tiger is always calm and collected not sensing any fear from the attacks.
He's not breathing heavily. That's his roar. Lions has more stamina than tiger which you know, tiger don't fight long they get tired, which Lion fight till death. In dis video you can clearly see he is protecting his Lioness by not letting tiger get close. When tiger retreats he comes back to his Lioness.
Lions has guts and pride, but tigers are more slay and more powerful , and lions know that very well , they just roar and attack the tiger but every time he receives powerful counter attack from the tiger and steps back knowing that his opponent is a not easy one.

I dont know whether lion is stronger than tiger or it is underpower. One thing is for sure that the lion is incredibly brave and never hesitates to engage itself.
Very interesting that the tiger doesn’t back down, nor does it seem to get agitated and initiate any of the conflicts(except for the juvenile tigers). The adult tiger even lays down and turns it’s back to the adult male Lion. The tiger is clearly bigger by a small amount, and truly seems to have no fear of the lion. Thanks for posting.

This male lion is living with two male tigers and two lionesses. The lion has abnormal back legs making easily lose his balance. Nevertheless, it is the lion the alpha male in this enclosure. As a typical male lion he will protect his lionesses by putting itself in-between them and the male tigers and making the tigers backing down.

Lions are much more aggressive by nature. A male lion's job is to take over a pride and breed and protect that pride (usually in coalition with another male or 2 other males). That's why evolution has given them these large manes. That's a warrior's protective armor that not only softens blows but entangles claws of the attacker to give time for retaliation. The lionesses are doing most of the hunting unless there's very big pray that needs to come down in which case male lions help to finish the job (like with buffalo, giraffes or even elephants). Male tigers are solitary animals and hunting for themselves. Their pray is terrified of them and the most competition they get is in rare territorial disputes in which case it's always 1 vs 1 and the weaker, after a short scuffle, just leaves. So they are hunters, not protector/warriors like the lions. That's a huge difference which makes also a big difference in evolutionary temperament.

The way these two animals fight is very different. A lion is more of a mock charger, while the Tiger is very similar to a bear, it'll rear up and display its full size, paws and claws ready to swipe at an incoming attack.

This is cruel. These keepers, whoever they are, know that if they put a tiger around a male lion with a bunch of females (probably in heat) that the male lion is going to think the tiger is after his ladies. They do this shit for videos and it's pretty bad.
Male lions are literally built for fighting. Literally, their only job in the pride is to fight other lions. Tigers by nature don't like fighting because an injury in the wild is a death sentence when you're a solitary hunter. By nature, tigers in the wild look to avoid confrontation with other tigers.

After watching innumerable lion vs tiger videos, I came to conclusion that Tigers are more agile and have a better skill set an apex predator wants. But when it comes to one on with a lion, who will survive and sustain depends on the individual specimen in the bout. Tigers will throw couple of punches before lion even gets into fighting mode, but lion will not back off from the fight as it wired to finish off the opponent in order to save it's pride.. On the other hand tigers avoid that fight till death attitude, they measure each other, exchange few punches and decide who the winner is, as they would not want to hunt with grave injuries. Overall I prefer tiger to lion bcz of its muscle density, bigger brain, water adaptability and lone hunting. But I don't want to put my money on either of them coz both the cats are majestic and shouldn't be put in arena for our entertainment.
Unlike lions, a wounded Tiger can't survive in the wild , Lion is social and fighter , Tiger is solitary hunter . any injury and he may lose his ability to hunt and die , Lions don't need to hunt often, the females do most of the Job, male lion has all the time to recover after a fight, that's why he is courageous

I wouldn't say that, tigers are (generally and theoretically speaking) way more powerful and ferocious I'm pretty sure, lions will probably be more dominant in captivity because of the stronger social instinct, I think the tiger would most likely win a fight because of speed and intelligence, not so much power because I guess it doesn't make such a big difference when at this level
