Up next is one of Pure Heart's favorite songs to play. Bodysurfing is a song originally performed by the legendary ukulele master, Herb Ohta.
What makes this version special is that it highlights the amazing ukulele skills of Jake but we also get to see Lopaka showcase his talents as a percussionist during his fantastic solo.
Here's a bit of behind the scenes info...at the very end of the song, Lopaka turns over his rain stick. What you don't see because the video fades out is that the rain stick goes on FOREVER! It was going on so long that all three of them and the crew stared at the thing waiting to see how long it would continue, all the while trying not to laugh so we wouldn't ruin the take.

I saw this band in 1999 at a street party while on vacation in Waikiki. Ran out and bought both CDs, still a fan today.
Every single time I watch this group it bring me back to middle school in an instant, it's amazing. Jon Yamasato - Cool as a Cucumber with a Hawaii laid back style Lopaka Colon - Such ingenuity when playing the bongos, drums, chimes and bird calls Jake Shimabukuro - Dude still rocks the stage like he's back in HS. This is why Pure Heart - Remains in my top bands collection till this day. So, please cut a new album, if not ... thank you for giving me a change to reminisce.

This is a treat to listen too.... with all the instruments sounding so fantastic.... it becomes so evident that even a simple clap can complement the tune so beautifully...
20 years later and the sound still is PURE.
I just purchased Jake Shimabukuro's Ukulele instructional book. Practicing on my Dad's old Duke Kahanamoku. I SO want to learn to play this song... Wish me luck!

This song is what got me into playing music! I remember watching them play for the first time at a 711 grand opening in Eva beach I think. After I heard this song I had to learn it! I play guitar now but still have my Ukulele roots and it shows in my guitar playing thanks to Jake!

for whatever it's worth, I have always said Jake, the lead Uke, was the "Carlos of the uke" But yeah, All 3 have their own special talents, which is what is amazing.

Lopaka is one of the best percussionists ever. His father played with Martin Denny and made all the jungle sounds.
I would be happy too, if all my bandmates were starting fires with their fingertips and all I had to do was pat a few soft plush bongos.
