What is so crushing is seeing all those happy pictures of ABBA together and then knowing that they all divorced and stood on stage next to each other "singing" of their break up... except it is almost not singing... but telling... telling the story. These four were SO happy together with their success and lives... but it crashed when pressures overwhelmed them. Great band, great music, great lyrics, great singers... so tragically sad and relatable for anyone that has had a divorce.
The moment you put down your little black mic, you fall in love with this masterpiece of music and lyrics.
This was actually a true story. Agnetha (lead singer) sung this sad emotional song. It was about her ex-husband (playing the guitar next to her), & felt so sorry for her. But she is a sensational singer no matter what!! xx
It gets more impactful when you realize that the song was written after Agnetas and Björns divorce and it was very hard for Björn to write the lyrics as it was so personal to him. He was also worried about if Agneta could manage to sing it but she said she could put her own feelings into the song.

Even though it is a break up song it is sung so beautifully. ABBA was and is still a great band.

The song was written by her husband (the one playing the guitar) and at the time as they were getting divorced. This makes the song so much more emotional and poignant. I knew this at the time when it was released and it must have been so hard to sing. One of Agneta's best performances and my favourite ABBA song. Sucker for this type of song.

The best lyrics and the greatest performing with the amazing Interpretation of the blonde singer Agnetha Fältskog and her soprano voice
The lyrics is a fiction abouta divorce, it is not about Their real life, although it is obviously influenced by Their own experiences and the realization of the legal divorce in the middle of 1980, even though They were no longer a couple or lived together more than a year and half ago, at the end of 1978
There is an Official Video with more than 120 millions views in CZcams, was filmed on July 1980, is a Masterpiece
it shows the blonde singer Agnetha alone so sad and remembering happy times, and the others members so nice together, a perfect example of contrast feelings

I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to record this song.

Hi dear Madame, this is my favorite song of Abba, I have tears in my eyes every time I listen to it ( you could try "Thank you for the music" and "Happy New Year" in which in found comfort besides the deepness of the harmonies and lyrics). In history, showing his emotions were always seen as a weakness.... I know what I'm saying ; but for me and a lot of people, seeing your honest reaction make feel happy, as a catharsis.... For me, it is a proof of humanism to be so sensitive to this song.... With all my affection, a random gay French guy

It is one of the most special songs for me. I grew up with ABBA and the emotions in their music touched me before I knew enough English to understand the lyrics. I'm happy also many younger people learn to appreciate this and so many other special songs by ABBA, who were one of the greatest bands ever.

I'm glad that you hear this song. I think Agneta never overcome Bjorn. All her sadness is written in this song
I know die hard metal heads crying like babies listening to this song. The song is mainly about the divorce between Agnetha and Björn. If you look closely you can tell by Agnetha`s eyes in the beginning that she is angry and Björn is very uncomfortable standing next to her singing about him. No one knew this at the time but figured it out after a while. But by then, ABBA was history.
