Excellant tutorial! I had a Designer II sewing and embroidery machine for years, but it became unreliable so I sold it and purchased a PE400, and this was still a few years back. I mostly did sewing and quilting and recently decided to check out the embroidery feature. I do have Embrilliance Essentials and purchased the large hoop. I should also mention I have a Mac. My attempt to the large hoop has not gone well. Your tutorial answered so many issues I am having that the customer service folks couldn't help me with (and yes, I read the manual). I was so excited to find you video, I deleted my test design and started over. I have all confidence it will work perfectly now thanks to your very clear steps and explanations. My son is an ironworker and already has some orders for me to make welders caps with embroidered Union number and person's name. the girls told me I could make all sorts of items like clothes, bags ect. and embroider on them and sell them. Yes, Embrilliance Essentials makes using embroidery fonts so much easier! You can get fonts in BX format and then just type them out with your keyboard. Very clear instructions. Thanks! Tried to embroider a knit baby bath towel with no success. It bunched horribly and the machine ate it. Took me an hour to get it out of the machine. Had to cut a huge hole in it. Any ideas what I should have done? I used a lightweight tear away.which might have been too thin, but any advice would be welcomed since I have 2 more of these blankets. I want to put their name on one and maybe a bath design on the other. Thanks.
Hi Linda, a lightweight tearaway should be fine on a towel. I would also suggest using a topper as I did in the video to keep your threads from sinking in. Are you having trouble with embroidering other materials or is it just the towels giving you trouble? Other things to check would be how your hooping the item and check your bobbin to make sure its threaded right and the tension is good. I hope this helps!
Thanks for the video & nicely done. I have the same machine & wanted to sew potholder mittens. Do I suppose to embroider first before sewing the actual mitten together or do I embroider after I'm done?
Thanks Twanna! If you are making the potholder yourself, then yes cut your pattern, embroider, then sew together. If you will have a liner on the inside then just embroider the outer fabric then sew the liner to coverup the back threads for a more finished look. Sounds like a fun project, good luck!

Hi Lynne. For this blanket, I use the Davidson Font from Applique Corner (www.appliquecorner.com/davidson-embroidery-font.html) There are lots of pretty script fonts on this site too. One that I really like is Natalie Font (www.appliquecorner.com/natalie-embroidery-font.html). Remember you need Embroidery software on your computer to open these fonts. Then type out the name, and have it the size and placement you want before saving it and transferring it to your embroidery machine.
I came across your video and watched it. It was very helpful even though it is an older video. I have a question. I just got an Brother Innov is NE1150E embroidery machine recently as a gift. I read that when working with Fleece that you need to slow the speed down and also you have to adjust the tension for the top thread or the bobbin threads. Do you have any tutorials on that. Or what do you suggest is a good tension for working with fleece.
Hi Bonnie. I don't believe I have worked with fleece on this machine. However, slowing your machine down can be helpful. You can do that by pressing the button that looks like a sheet of paper with the corner folded. Once there use the arrow buttons to scroll until you see speed options. You can pick 350 or 650 stitches per min. I would do a test stitch first on some scrap fleece and see how it looks before messing with the tension. Let me know how it goes 😁

Hi Janet. I use Embrilliance Essentials software to make the design or wording then I transfer it to my PE770 using a flash drive. When using Embrilliance you can purchase fonts from online embroidery design stores then just type them out in the software.
For woven cotton I like to use a medium weight cut away. For stretch knit cotton, I use a fusible poly mesh cut away and layer tear away with it. I purchased the font from Appliqué Corner and then used Embrilliance Essentials Embroidery Software on my computer to make the name. When I'm done making the name in the size I want, I save it to a USB to then plug into the machine. There are 6 basic fonts that do come on the machine itself that you can use to add names to items as well.

Hi Shelley! The first thing you need to do is install some embroidery software on your computer. I recommend Embrilliance Essentials (there is a link in the description above). Next, you can buy embroidery designs and fonts from lots of different places. I have a post on my blog about my favorite places to buy designs (www.karliebelle.com ). Once you purchase designs or fonts, you can open them in the Embrilliance software. Choose the hoop size you are using, then place the design and name to look how you want the finished product to look. Save the design to a standard USB flash drive, then plug the flash drive into your machine, open it up, and start sewing :)
I have it on a thread holder on side of my machine. It is linked in the description box. I like it a lot better than the thread holder that comes on the machine.

Onesies are a tough one. For under 6 months, I only use a 4x4 hoop and I use painters/ masking tape to hold the excess material out of the way. For bigger than 6 months, I use a 5x7 hoop with something called a JT Hoop it Up. It is a metal frame that helps keep the excess fabric away from the sewing field. Here is their facebook page where you can find more info: facebook.com/Jthoopitup-Embroidery-Aids-792199044176256/ Lastly the easiest way to embroider onesies is to buy them from Blanks Boutique. All of their onesies have snaps down the back so you can open them up completely and are super easy to hoop. They cost more than onesies that you can get from Carter's or Gerber but are worth the frustration you will put yourself through LOL. Also, the quality of the material is much better and comes in lots of colors :)
Karen Derbes yes regular tear away is all you need for this project. I only keep iron on tear away in my craft room and use the fusible option only when not floating. Sorry if I was confusing.

What specific size did you do the name? & was that the biggest size you could do on a 5X7 hoop?
I believe for this blanket I used a 2” font and made it so that it was the width of the hoop (7 inches)

I noticed that your spool of thread is not on your machine. What do you have it on?
I have it on a thread holder on side of my machine. It is linked in the description box. I like it a lot better than the thread holder that comes on the machine.
I have noticed that other people don’t use the machines spool holder. I have tension problems when I use the machines spool holder.

what do you use for oneies for baby's ?
Onesies are a tough one. For under 6 months, I only use a 4x4 hoop and I use painters/ masking tape to hold the excess material out of the way. For bigger than 6 months, I use a 5x7 hoop with something called a JT Hoop it Up. It is a metal frame that helps keep the excess fabric away from the sewing field. Here is their facebook page where you can find more info: facebook.com/Jthoopitup-Embroidery-Aids-792199044176256/ Lastly the easiest way to embroider onesies is to buy them from Blanks Boutique. All of their onesies have snaps down the back so you can open them up completely and are super easy to hoop. They cost more than onesies that you can get from Carter's or Gerber but are worth the frustration you will put yourself through LOL. Also, the quality of the material is much better and comes in lots of colors :)

Hi Angelica, I use a Brother PE770 Embroidery Machine
in the beginning you mentioned iron-on tearaway, but you did not iron it. Of course you would not want to iron it. Did you just mean plain tearaway?
Karen Derbes yes regular tear away is all you need for this project. I only keep iron on tear away in my craft room and use the fusible option only when not floating. Sorry if I was confusing.
