Sambal ikan bilis | Malaysian anchovies chili paste (ingredient list provided)

  • Sambal Ikan Bilis. With this sambal alone, Ah Pa can eat alot of white rice with it. Very simple but very flavourful, usually not too spicy. Link to the mini chopper here invol.co/cl64sj9
    Ingredients:
    1 small bowl of anchovies (rinsed and deep fried)
    Some big onion, sliced
    Sambal (well blended):
    20 dried chilis
    1 red pepper, cut into small piece
    2 bird’s eye chilis
    2 cloves of garlic
    3 cloves of shallots
    1 tablespoon of dried shrimp
    1 tablespoon of roasted belacan
    Enough amount of filtered water
    Enough amount of cooking oil
    Seasoning:
    Pinch of salt
    Enough amount of sugar (add in to the sambal in different phases)
    A little bit of light soya sauce

    I have been looking for a blender. When I first saw this kitchen aid, it said it was a chopper.. From your video, it also serves as a blender well. I am tempted to get it now. I can’t find one as sleek as this.

    Ah Pa, when I deep fried my anchovies, it is either burnt or not crispy. Does the oil have to be less hot to avoid being burnt and how long does it takes to cook anchovies?

      Use low medium heat to slowly fry to avoid burning

      I usually use chilly giling and fry with finely diced garlics & shallots and belachan. Skip the step of blending. Taste also good.😊
