  • My little review of the Einhell TC-SB 200/1 band saw. Here's what I think after about a year. As you will see, I am very much a novice and go on a bit of a ramble but I think it might be useful if you are thinking of buying one.

the 250W motor seems so cute and dandy but in the catalog they recommend a 15 minute job with pause for the motor to cool down and I was wondering if we cold change the motor to more powerful one. I found in my area a couple of motors with 2.2KW, 1.8KW and a 1.1KW for about 70 euros each. Also in my shop I have 3 phase power so having a small 700W motor with 3 phase is also possible but a bit more expensive I guess. I do believe than even a washing machine motor would be better than the silly 250W one but hey, if it works it works

And lowering the blade guide you get a straighter cut.

There are many videos on YT about optimising the setup of a bandsaw, which I suggest you watch. Also, when cutting it is wise to keep the blade supports as close to the work piece as possible; it should clear your fence, hopefully. With good setup and practice it is possible to cut veneer-thickness strips accurately.
Enjoy your journey and mind your fingers! 😁

I'll check it out, thanks for the comment. I've learnt so much since I started and yet I still know almost nothing. 😁

Just for easier tuning of a bandsaw with regards the correct blade tension.. Turn on the machine and watch the blade down at eye level, If the blade is too loose you will see it oscillating from side to side.. When you start to crank up the tension the oscillation will get smaller and smaller to the point that it stops.. Thats your correct tension.. any more than that and your now heading for too tight.. Also a word on truing wheels its actually not complicated at all.. The aim of the game is to have the wheel always stopping in a random location, if the wheel always stops near the same location, it is obviously heaviest on that side.. With nothing on the wheel so it can rotate freely, give it a spin and wait for it to stop, now mark a line on it with a pencil or bit of tape right at the bottom in the centre, doesnt have to be perfect, just eyeball the centre.. Now give it another spin and mark again where it stops at the bottom centre, after a few more lines, you will start to visually see where the wheel favours resting.. Now you know which side is heavy so grab a bit of lead, a penny or whatever small piece of weight you have and stick that on the direct opposite side of the rim.. Now with another spin you should start to see yur wheel favouring that same area a little less.. Perhalps it is good enough !!! Again if it stops randomly around the wheel and you finding it doesnt always favour one side, your done.. If not.. Wiipe away the lines and repeat.. Add more weight to the heavy side.. Check if its improving... Dont get too carried away though.. You will get it close enough for proper operation but no point in pulling your hair out... Hope this helps !!!

Yep all bandsaws are a pain in the behind. And if you set them up wrong and dull the blade its a whole blade change or it will never run right. Catch 22. Those other fellas you see on youtube cutting 2mm veneers all have massive cast iron $2000+ bandsaws

Ouch!!! Watching you push wood through SO CLOSE to the blade made my blood run cold. And yet another bloke who doesn't use the upper blade guide correctly. Adjust it down to allow the wood size only, no more. Use a pusher to keep the job against the fence, ESPECIALLY cutting a straight line; it's a no brainer as the Yanks say. Think about what would happen if the blade snapped and your fleshy fingers copped some of the whip back or you just got a nervous twitch at the wrong time. My goodness, what would the missus say? You could never live it down AND you'd have to learn to pick your nose with the other hand. That would be awkward enough but then there's using the littlest room in the house . . . you don't want that right?

Haha. Thanks for the comment and your concern. I have since figured out the upper blade guide thing, and didn't even consider the blade snapping. I'll be more careful.
