Well by mutations in geneseed they are Raven Guard, Night Lords ( not likely since they speak about their primarch positively) or purged II/XI th. . If they are from lost legions they must had emerged durnig horus heresy since we know they come inside the impirium when needed (Baadab. 7th black crusade). There is possibility that they were in one chapter with ashen claws but Ashen claws refused to folow oath as carcharodons and they split.
I know they are forced to trade with them out of need & pact, though Grim Dark's mention of another possibly ancient pact with the Adeptus mechanicus for archeotech could be a sign of a mission for them during ancient time's....probably just clutching at straw's here.
The harvester prime sometimes get lucky during the grey thithe sometimes they can find STC for new weapons or horus heresy era stuff that the chapter can use or produce due to them having a factory ship in their fleet so they can produce new weapons for their chapter that is how lucky that they can get during the grey tithe.
It was because of the way they waged war as oppressors and slavers rather than liberators like Corax and his freedom fighters. The Terran Born waged war with no heed to civilian casualties which went against Corax's ways.
Founded probably before the Badab war, they were on the right side though they seem to be on a nomadic course rather than a crusade....guess they don't like company.
EDIT after watching video I am confused. They are different from ashen claws? Some new information for me. I was supporter of theory from 40k theories that they are ashen claws. I need to read the outer dark novel.
