They're starting soon in the new year and I wanted to share some of my personal experiences with you guys so that you can be as successful as possible. Just landed my first SWE internship as a Junior! I got on the internship train a little late but I’m super excited. Taking your advice to heart, I was a bit nervous to perform but to switching the perspective and look at it as an opportunity to make mistakes, take risks, and learn relives the pressure and makes it sound way more fun. Thanks man I’m glad I found this video
That’s awesome, congrats! Enjoy your internship and make the best of it! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
How is/was the internship after a year now?
@yonabon can you update us?
Thanks you for sharing your own intern experience with us which is extremely helpful to my upcoming coop.
You helped take a lot of weight off my shoulders. I knew it was expected that as an intern they knew we’re still learning but it’s nice to hear someone else say it. It helps me know it’s okay to ask questions if you don’t know something.
I just started my first internship. I feel like I don’t know enough and feel like I’m bothering my manager by asking so many questions about what to do. My biggest problem is not knowing what’s expected of me
Just ask what’s expected! Don’t be scared to ask questions too. How’s the internship going?
Awesome Possum how did it go?
Wow dude I'm exactly in the same place now : D. How did yours go? Any tips?

It helped really.😀
Hey I have my first internship this summer, and I'm pretty nervous because I think I dont know anything in computer science. I already have imposter syndrome before starting the internship, can you give me a few tips for this how do I make it so that I dont feel like I don't know anything
Everyone has imposter syndrome at some point, but you should know that if you were hired then the company has confidence in you to succeed. Doesn’t have to be immediate impact but as long as you put in your best effort and try and learn as you go you’ll be OK.
How did it go?
Still I can get the internship even I don't studying in school only by myself?
Internships are good to put on your resume!
Yeah for sure!
- Expectation Management: Companies do not expect interns to be fully skilled or perfect. They understand interns will make mistakes and need to learn.
- Learning Opportunities: Internships are valuable for practical learning and gaining experience, often more so than academic settings.
- Asking Questions: It's crucial to ask questions and not fear making mistakes, as this openness leads to better learning experiences.
- Active Participation: Engaging with colleagues and participating in tasks beyond the job description can enhance personal and professional growth.
- Mentorship: Finding a mentor can significantly accelerate learning and provide valuable feedback.
- Handling Negativity: Not everyone will take interns seriously, but it's important to stay positive and focused on personal development.
- Openness to New Experiences: Being flexible and willing to learn new technologies can open unexpected career opportunities.
How can you create that relationship with your coworker to gain a mentor?
So I'm new into coding I am currently a freshman at Iowa western community college working on a application and web design degree it was my best option at the time but I don't know how companies internships work I don't have a ton of knolage like I said I am a freshman and a community college do you think if I tried to reach and internship they would even take me seriously? and am I even on the right track to become a software engineer ?.
Look to transfer to a 4 year university. A lot more opportunities. I did cc for 1 semester then transferred into a very good uni.
I’m in high school but I got a SE internship for the summer but I’m scared af and I feel like I won’t know enough or something💀
How did you get internship as a high school student? I am looking to do an internship next summer but I got no work experience before. Did you have any work experience?
@@theone.591 u can put personal projects on your cv that’s what’s making you interesting
How’s the internship going?
Do SE internships have a hard technical part? That's the part I am most scared of
You are usually on a team from anywhere from community college students to PhD students so let the phD’s do the technical stuff and make sure you’re kick ass at project management, documentation, communication and team leadership
i am working 6 months in a multinational american company, i am feeling extremely overwhelmed because i know nothing of angular, c# and the complex things (i know only basics of python, html and css) the other intern knows almost everything he is a dude that looks like he has been coding since he was in the womb.I feel so incompetent, i am a girl and i rarely see any girls in my company that are passing thro the same exact thing, none is teaching me anything, my team is so distant i feel so sad i fear i wont be able to catch up
Don't get disheartened! You will make it. Slow and steady
Thx, it helps(i'ma that gay that ask of that js was in tiktok)
Happy to hear that!
at least your school taught you something useful for the job market 😂
