Hello Steve, your videos are helping me work on my tension, so thank you. I have couple other questions, first, it is very hard to turn my wheel to put the needle up and I noticed where your take up arm is up when your needle is up, I don't think mine is up like that. Mine don't seem to want to release my fabric when my needle is up all the way up. Oh, and the orange dots should I be oiling them?
Hi Steve about 2 weeks into having my new machine in it started pulling to the bottom such as you said. I hat paranoid so I started watching CZcams tutorials. The man o the tutorial said that the knob by the wheel all the way to 9 to where it won’t go further and that should work. My machine was horrible , I try to put it back but that knob just came tumbling down. I was so scared I had broken this very expensive machine and didn’t even get to see anything. The place we bought it at was ove 3 hours away so we went with all the pieces of material I use to test it. The guy at the shop just took me to a machine and showed what to do when I got back home. I played wit it because by this time I was not so scared of it. It has been 5 months and we are starting to understand each other. I wish I had seen this tutorial back then it would have save me the stress. Also Lauren MORE ME KNOWS said you have the JUKI PLATE WITH THE MEASURING LINES. I just started making these purses and crafts and could really you that🤪. Could you get.ahold of me and let me know what it cost. Thanks in advance for all your help
Thank you Steve love your videos. Is it a tension issue if I get loads of bunching on the bobbin side.? Seem to get issues even going over a small seam will miss a bobbin stitch and get a loop now constant bobbin bunching.
So I have a question. Do you have to change the tension on the bobbin or top when you change to a different size thread on juki du1181n? I found when I received my juki from the dealer it had a much thicker thread on it. I was at the time using Amman t70 and it totally messed everything up and I had to mess with both bottom and top tension. so now that I have my tension right I'm scared to change the thread. I want to use size 92. So What I'm asking is do I have to mess with the bobbin every time I change the different size threads? Well, originally it was for the 135 but changed it to 92. That works for all sizes of threads. Thanks so much
Hey Steve! I notice your foot didn’t seem to leave ANY “track marks”. Can you show what your presser foot tension adjusters are set at? (Maybe give us a measurement in cm?) My foot ALWAYS leaves track marks….I’d like to fix that.😊
Good Evening, Steve. My Juki du1181n ‘s tension discs do not come apart when either using the knee lift or the knob to raise the presser foot. I can run it over vinyl and it pierces the fabric however it doesn’t not connect with the bobbin thread. This started after I tried to adjust the tension. Any suggestions, please?
I am having the hardest time. I switch from T90 thread to T70 and my stitching on the top is one big run-on. The bottom stitch is perfectly fine. I watched many videos and followed directions and T70 thread won’t take. When I switch back to T90 is sews perfect. I even changed the needle for to 135 x 17 DP x 17 (?). I have the 1541s Juki machine.
So if I use T80 variegated thread with a 20 needle do I need to adjust my top tension disk? More tension or less tension? I'm having an issue with it right now using the T80 Variegated thread.😞
I’ve had my Juki for a month now and I can’t get the bottom to look nice. It’s very very loose on the bottom. I also noticed that the tension dial doesn’t seem to stop, meaning I have turn it so much attempting to adjust the stitch that it seems to have no end. Is this normal?
Oh my gosh just this afternoon I was thinking I wish Steve would make a video on tension and here you are!!! Besides the tension problems - I'm having a problem with the back stitch level not popping back up after changing stitch lengths (I have to hold it down to get the stitch length nob to move). Any thoughts?
Hello Steve! You are my very good teacher, thank you so much! I have Juki DDL-8700 and Juki DU-1181N. I got both unassembled and I put it together. Unfortunately I have problem with "BIG BOY "DU-1181N. It is so hard to use the knee lifter . Always hurt my leg. Please tell me or show me what can I do with this issue?. /With his "Sister" DDL-8700 so easy to use the knee lifter/. Thanks Erika
The springs on the presser feet are stronger than the DDL-8700. You can loosen them a bit and it will make it a little easier on your leg. czcams.com/video/SYqQiYqw84k/video.html
I've watched a ton of your videos and I'm still having troubles. What should I do when I've tightened the top tension all the way down AND I've tightened the uptake spring and it is barely correct? I don't know why my top tension should need to be that tight. I have the bottom tension pretty loose. I even wound thread on the machine itself to provide a bit more tension. I have a Juki DDL 555. Any thoughts?
Steve, thanks for another great video on the 1181n. I noticed you don't hold the thread tails at all, I'll have to try that and hope I don't get some rat's nest.
If the tension is set for thinner fabric, it should work well on thicker. If it is set for thicker fabric, you may have to adjust it for thinner fabric.
Hi Steve, I recently purchased the Idustrial 3 head sewing machine for hair extensions. The first one is working fine, the other two's thread keeps snapping. Im struggling to find the solution there. Any tips? Many thanks Esther
I'm sorry Esther, we do not sell that type of machine. General tips would be to check to make sure you needle is not in backwards and check your threading. Simple stuff but common errors.
Thanks Steve, appreciate your high level of customer service .
Any time Roy!
Steve you are the best. Appreciate you.
Thank you Jeannette.
Thank you for sharing your skills!
Thank you for this video. I always refer back to you videos for help.
Thank you Kelly!
Thank you soooo much Steve, this video is very helpful. I’ll keep adjusting until my stitches look as good as yours
This video was inspired by you Charisse!
Thank you for sharing, very helpful video.
You are so welcome!
I want this machine, no matter what he does it still seems to sew great! LOL

Hello! What if stitching is ustable? Dots appears sometime upside and sometime downside.

Do you have an aftermarket needle plate installed?

I am getting a birds nest on thick layers, any ideas?
I need help with my tension PLEASE. the bottom threads are loopy. how would I set tension to fix this problem?
Hi what foot a u using for this leather tq
Steve, thanks for another great video on the 1181n. I noticed you don't hold the thread tails at all, I'll have to try that and hope I don't get some rat's nest.
Hold the thread or start the stitch with the needle in the fabric. I need to follow my own advice.
What if the bottom looks better than the top? When going through thin fabric and then thick it looks bad on the thin but good on the thick?
What if bottom thread is looping through the top?
Does the same tension work with different material thicknesses or layers?
If the tension is set for thinner fabric, it should work well on thicker. If it is set for thicker fabric, you may have to adjust it for thinner fabric.
Hey Steve! I’m just starting in auto upholstery and want to grab my first machine do you think this will do for now? It’s more of my price range
It would not be my first choice but it will work. I would look for a compound feed walking foot. We have a few in a similar price range.
Hi Steve. I have the same machine but my problem is the top. The bottom looks good but the top is pulling. How do I fix that?
My Juki 1181 shreds the thread and in reverse will break the needle, what do I do?
Loops on top stitch? Still playing around with it. Marine vinyl, Tex 70 thread and size 19 needle.
Either loosen the top tension or tighten the bobbin case tension. You can try both, but one at a time.

Welcome, please add Arabic for translation. Thank you for your wonderful channel
Can you do a video fixing skipped stitches? Happens while top stitching.
Use this video for skipping stitches.

Hi Steve. I am a new user. The bottom thread is loose. How do I correct it. Thanks. Btw. Your videos are awesome.
Tighten the top tension to start, to try and pull the bottom stitch up.
9:36 We have an 1181n and the hand lift is not working. Is this a simple fix?
The hand lifter does have a dead spot. When you turn the wheel and the needle is in different positions, does it work?
But what if the bottom is really loose? Then what 😫
