Mig 21 was designed for one purpose. Scramble in one minute including engine start, climb like hell to 40 thousand feet above the enemy, be directed by ground radar, shoot down the enemy and come back. It is not a multirole . It is true to its purpose and so is so iconic.

Given the lack of maneuverability is kind of stretch to still call it an "air superiority" fighter. Since the thing is dead simple, quite fast, and still flies after all these decades a "cost performance superiority" fighter might be more like it.

@@yureshsinha3904 Sure. But what you are describing is "intercepter" not "air superiority". I think the fact it is still around is amazing and all the proof anyone could ever need that it was amazing in some way. Just saying "air superiority" is a different thing.
