Fun Fact: Disco Kid is referred to as “kidquick” in the game files, Kid Quick being a character from the original 1984 Punch Out arcade game. Not only that but they are both 210 lb and both are from Brooklyn. Doc even references Kid Quick during intermission. It’s likely that Disco Kid started out as Kid Quick but so many changes were made to the character during development that it warranted him being a completely separate character.

Disco Kid was proof that Punch-Out could still deliver when it came to newcomers. Shame he was the only one, though.
Well technically, he's kind of a reboot of Kid Quick from the Arcade game.
There’s even hints in the game’s files that suggest that they were originally developing Kid Quick for the game but decided to later just make him into Disco Kid
Honestly Kid Quick literally had zero personality or character, Disco Kid is a great new version.

I think it was because the minor circuit was sorted by losses and if I remember correctly, Disco Kid had one less loss than Von Kaiser
