Best explanation. Much clearer than on the PredictWind website. It is also good that you explain from how you would plan a message and the info is not fragmented.
Thank you! 😊
Herb! 1995. Wow, that just brought me back.
I learned lots from your informational series. That's lifetime experience at sea. No other channels can compare.
Thanks for a detailed discussion of the offshore communication and weather tools you use.
I took a course on Predict Wind and your demonstration was much clearer.
I remember seeing those old clips when you first uploaded them.... Time flies...
Very well presented. I enjoy your informational series.
The predict wind and iridium are not just game changers they are life savers! That technology has lifted countless worry and burdens and I for one am glad you two got it. what a interesting video. Thank you for sharing. Safe travels!!!
Thanks Tony, I absolutely agree. :)
@@drakeParagon is there a radar system that alerts you and prevents collisions with any other maritime traffic?
Drake ! Thank you so much for all your videos.
I just found your channel. Well done.
Just picked up a second hand iridium go so the timing of this video is perfect for me. Thanks!
Score! 🥳 What an awesome find. I hope you like it as much as we do...it's been a real game changer for us. (✿◠‿◠) ⚓-Monique
awesome video!!
Thanks Hux! (✿◠‿◠) ⚓-Monique
Excellent! We installed the IridiumGo! system earlier in the summer and it is far from intuitive. This video has been so helpful - thanks!
Now a WS32 owner. Remember Southbound 2 Herb well. Very help and a good voice to speak to each early evening.
Herb made all the difference in the world for so many cruisers sailing offshore. I will always be thankful for all of his help.
very informative
Thanks John. Having these aboard really has been a game changer for so many reasons. It's great for looking for a weather window, but even just keeping abreast of what's going on with the weather helps so much. It's changed the way we cruise for the better. (✿◠‿◠) ⚓-Monique
@@drakeParagon its been forty years since i did my sailing the GPS would give you a position anywhere within a mile but dead reckoning is all right when you get well practised and we did not do long passages we left Southampton and got as far as greese kalamata so we never spent more than two days at sea very enjoyable it took fifteen years to get there as back
Drake, I have watched every single video you have created and produced. Individually, I have always wondered what is it you enjoy the most. Is it the sailing or is it the destination?
Great video thank you. A question for you: When you are downloading data from the Iridium Pro whilst offshore does the actual real time boat position get transposed onto the animated map feature?
Thanks for the video you guys! Do you think that someone could get by as a full time cruiser with just the iridium Unlimited plan and no cell plan or simm cards if you don’t talk on the phone much? Unlimited texting right?
Yes, unlimited texting and email. However it’s not as instant as with a cell phone. To get text messages and email you have to go through a process every time - running the app, connecting to the iridium go, a short wait for data transfer. It’s not like a cell phone where when you get a message you phone beeps. If a cell data plan is available in all of the waters you’re sailing in then that would be better than the iridium go. If you’re sailing offshore, beyond cell phone reception then the iridium go is a fantastic option.
Still feel like we need a walkthrough of that sweet entertainmo system! 🙂
Nice video. Which of the wind models do you find to be the most accurate ?
We look at all of them, but I find the PredictWind PWG and PWE to be more accurate.
how much per month for the routing+iridium go plan ?
We currently have the GO! Unlimited plan which is 150 call minutes and unlimited data. As of today it's listed on the website for $139.95 USD and we think it's well worth it. (I've included a link below) I have to say, we don't really use the call minutes as much, but unlimited data is absolute gold. We're constantly downloading weather reports, especially now when we're looking for a weather window to push off to a new country.
The Predictwind pricing varies by plan: free, basic, standard, and professional. I've included a link for that below also. Let us know if you have any other questions. Cheers - Monique

@@drakeParagon is it worth it when starlink for rv is cheaper ?
I don’t know that much about starlink, but my understanding is that you can only pay for access to certain regions at a time. So I don’t think we’d be able to use it to receive PredictWind weather/routing outside of whatever region we were paying for. So we couldn’t use it for voyaging outside of that region, like from Denmark to Scotland, or Faroe to Svalbard. Please correct me if I’m wrong. I also wonder if the RV version would work on a pitching and heaving sailboat offshore in heavy weather. One thing I love about the Iridium Go! Is that we can reliably use it no matter what kind of offshore conditions we are in. But I am sure that the Starlink will only improve it’s capability and availability in the future. Count me in when it does. :)
Predict wind is all above the others, can go with the free version of Windy, and predict yourself....
How accurate do find the forecasts to be?
Extremely accurate for the next 24 hours. Very accurate for the next 72. Less so for beyond that, but still generally on track. Right now we’re anchoring out at many different islands in Norway. I use predictwind every morning to figure out which island to go to to have the most protection for from wind.
Good Good information. ☕☕🍺🍺⛵ Blue-steel Denmark
Thanks! We just left Denmark a couple of weeks ago...what a beautiful place to sail! An absolute paradise. We would love to return one day. Cheers - Monique
Wait, you can’t just skim over the rescue story…
Is that information some kind of brain overload? The Vikings had nothing but the stars and they knew what is coming with the seasons....
