My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!

If I was at that Walmart at that time I would have joined you for exercise at Wally World! The cold affects the functioning of the brain. Personal note: my nephew who’s 27 is at a hospital in Kansas City. He’s in critical condition in the CCU. He’s very sick. Racing heart beat, irregular heart beat. They think he’s got infection in his blood. Not too sure yet. So my brother has been keeping the family up to date. If everyone could send a prayer for him I would greatly appreciate it. It’s really tough. Thank you all!

@cathythomas298 To Cathythomas.. a friend down the block lost her grandpa a year ago Thanksgiving. He raised her and her siblings as mother was in jail on and off for a number of years. I met this caring, lovely girl when I started caregiver for my mom and that was 30yrs ago. She knows she can come on down and chat. She is lost and depressed. I suggested a couple things for her to do
1. Change up your routine and find different or new things to do with her husband and her family and grandpa. As for the holiday meal she decided that everyone was going to create or buy the ugly sweaters and go out for dinner vs sitting at home where memories were, then they went to a movie. Not only she smiled but so did her grandpa. Then they did have a quiet moment. And she is going out more like little cafes, library seminars, etc. In fact, she is planning to go on her first cruise and recently came back from spending a few days at a lodge.
2. Write her grandpa a letter. When you feel sad, happy, something happened and your husband was the one you shared these moments, you still can. These are letters, like a book journal, from you to him. No one says you still cannot talk with him. Be as fancy or laid back on a notebook or a fav color or design as you want. Just a way to be close and to heal.
My neighbor does enjoy her moments and shared with her grandma the letters. That is a bond that will last forever.

@@sumosprojects I hate Muggy. I can’t handle the humidity. At least with a dry heat the sweat evaporates and cooled you but this bloody Muggy weather makes you feel like a cold shower and to stand naked in front of an open fridge. As the aircon is on the blink. Not a pretty sight 🤣🤣🤣🥵🥵👍🏼

My goodness Matthew, seeing the unbridled joy in your face as you live your life on your terms is everything. I have the exact opposite problem of you..
Today it got hot.. I'm living in my Van with Four dogs The next two months nine hundred miles from my home.
The only option I have is to stay under shade trees...
I have to constantly stay with my dogs... I have one ten fans... But it still gets too hot inside the van when I go into a place to buy anything.. I can't believe It got this hot in florida in january. It's actually got me a little bit depressed... 3 of the dogs does not need A dog leash... The new one that I used to foster. But now own it has to be walked every time.
By the end of the day I feel spent...
The next day I feel better.... Then I have to repeat everything over again. As far as your exercises...
Listen to yourself as far as where your limits are... Doctors won't know that they put everybody in the same category. And you have to be smarter than to end up getting yourself hurt again. Getting yourself hurt after the surgery is a little bit more serious of a deal than it was before the surgery.

😎 Hello Matt, I broke my neck twice and my back is screwed and I wear insulated coveralls when I go out in the Winter, have you ever tried them ? They work great and keep me warm without them, I will fell a lot of pain in my spine . Stay warm and Safe, give your Sweet Penny a Kiss for Me. 👍

I needed a hot chocolate watching this. The lowest temp where I am in northern Ontario was -36°c with the windchill last week. This week we’re supposed to go above 0 😵💫. Glad you managed to get all your chores done safely. Stay warm 🤗🤗🤗

I never put a jacket on while we were having our below freezing temps. I didn't stay outside very long though. Neither did my fur faces. Do their business and run back to home. (in their yard of course). They don't get to roam the neighborhood (pastures behind me makes it nice. But they are my "fur face kids" even as old as they are. In dog years they are older than me!!! Wow!!! My feet are getting cold watching this bud!! LOL Matthew you are having so much fun having Grace. Way to go. Stay warm y'all! Byeeee

I suggest bamboo dehumidifier bags - come in different sizes & refresh with sunshine every few months. Lasts years. Gave several to my daughter who just started #vanlife.

Holy sh#t that’s cold 🥶 The coldest for me ever was when we flew to Fort Mac when my grandson was born Dec 2018. When we landed, it was -23. It’s great that park is open thru winter months with the bathroom facilities aswell. Makes things a little easier for your household chores 😉 I’m glad the diesel heater was doing its thang and keeping you warm ❤ Have a great night!

those renogy monitors are funny. you need to set max volts like a volt higher then it will ever see, and the low voltage the same, this way the percentage will be accurate, and it wont take voltage into consideration just watts and amps going in and out
The only thing I can think of that the sound is when it is as cold as……fudge, on start up. Is if you get the answer wrong on a game show. Hope this helps.
For moisture they sell, I don't know what there called, they look like thick zip lock bag that hangs. It's empty but u hang it in the van and it takes the moisture out 🎉the air. The bag literally will start filling with water. It's a great product and it works. I will try to find out the name. Stay warm.

20 years ago, I had a Viper remote start & alarm system installed in my 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan, and have never regretted doing so. Go to warm van in winter, or cool van in summer. Also on trip can take nap in back (seats removed) and while lying there, can crank to change the temp from the fob. The rear has both cooling and heating too. It also has a continuous crank which will run engine for 15 minutes each hour, if I want.

Wd-40 worked as it should for the jeep tow rig; did you also spray that oil onto the lock cylinder to keep moisture out?

Well, you wouldn't want to need the diesel heater all the time, but 3 liters/less than a gallon overnight doesn't seem too bad.... Idk what that is in Canada but diesel is less than $4.00USD. It's just over $3.50 here because I live in the boonies.
