i graduated class of 2000. I've roughly seen this 25 times? (at least 3 times in theater and i wasn't a theater go-er for multiple reasons including an hour drive one way).
My best friend in high school, who impossibly enough is 1 floor below me as I type this in 3/15/2024, used to fall asleep to the VHS copy of The Matrix every night for at least a year if not more. Remember this was before cellphones, high speed internet (we had dialup only option, cable internet was JUST laying infrastructure), or anything close to the satellite coverage we enjoy in 2024. The Matrix changed the lives and trajectory of a generation of people across the *globe*.
Instant classic the day it hit theaters. Instant masterpiece without parallel in it's time. They spent SO much money making this movie the correct way and pioneered so many technologies for the industry that it stands on par with The Lord of the Rings' impact on cinematography.
The opening scene is one of the best written in all film. Sets the tone, story, and mystery perfectly
The Red pill is actually a reference to the movie Total Recall with Schwarzeneger.
One of the many weird references an easter eggs this movie has.
The white rabbit and the rabbit hole fe. comes from Alice in Wonderland.
Also wasn't the white Rabbit a song by Jefferson Airplane?

One of the best science fiction movies EVER.
There are a lot of people who believe the technology in this movie is a metaphor for our actual reality, and after watching some videos and reading some articles about consciousness I can't say I disagree with their conclusions. It's really pretty fascinating.
I've seen and read some of that stuff too and you're right, given the weirdness of the quantum world it's really hard to dispute a lot of their conclusions. Our reality is much different from what we've been taught it is and what we perceive it to be.

It's not super important to the story - BUT in terms of cultural impact, you have to understand also how 1999-internet felt like :D
unlike today, where you are inundated in crazy, falling down conspiracy rabbit-holes in the 90s actually took some personal effort
sitting up late, chatting with strangers truly felt like almost a forbidden activity, where you were trading in personal truths across the planet; probably not any more valid than todays ultra-charged circus, but it definitely *felt* more real :D

One of my favourite movies. Up there with Alien 1 & 2, Terminator 1 & 2, and Predator 1 & 2. Watch any of these movies and you'll be happy to be alive.

Hello. Please give a reaction to the film Knowing (2009), this is a very good film, this is one of those films after watching which the impressions do not calm down for a long time
Old films are better - sfx has changed very little since this other than they can probably churn it out cheaper and faster (kinda wish ppl wold stop being wowed by sfx we've had this long)- back then they still had some plot and characterisation and weren't preaching so what's not to like? :) Good reaction!

The sequels... uhm, Reloaded has a handful of good action scenes, but you'll be happier not watching any of the sequels.
I feel like a parasite, I cant enjoy the feeling of seeing this movie again for the first time, so I have to watch others do that and take from their emotions.

fun fact: Neo from the matrix is John Connors from Terminator.... in traditional Hollywood fashion they stole the entire story. Sophia Stewart not only wrote the book that was behind the script for this movie in 1981 (book is titled the third eye), she also recently won a multi million dollar suite against Sony, Warner bros and the Wachoski brothers. This is why all the terminators are the same exact concept and it's why the last matrix sucked they were not the ones who wrote the original story. and anyone who does not believe me look it up she literally won in court against them for copyrighting.

That doesn’t make sense. This movie is complex on so many levels. And it includes first of its kind action/action sequences that have been copied several times since then.
