    I have been so curious about this one and how iris would play into Interlude. Wont be in a hurry to seek it out. Thanks for the insight guys.

    Looking very dapper! Great descriptions on this...Interlude is a cult classic. I've owned almost all of the Amouage line over the years but my favorite is Memoir it is a complete *work of art* I couldn't do it justice by just describing the notes in my review so I made it into an immersive story experience. I feel like that's the only way to describe Amouage frags. I'll have to get my nose on this one, I've heard mixed reviews.

    Black iris man is supposed to be more approachable for those who love the original but find it a bit harsh. The new one is more wearable but still has the Amouage interlude DNA. Kinda like Tuscan Leather and Ombre Leather.

      Yes, I can see that it’s a ‘toned down version’ of the original masterpiece. I don’t get the TF comparison. Yes, TL and OL are both leather, but they really are extremely different and share hardly any DNA. OL doesn’t fee like a reworking of TL

    Great thoughts gents...I agree the review. For me if you already own the original Interlude, the Black Iris is a redundant purchase.

    You talk Dan that there are two ways Iris can go. Lipsticky-powdery one and leathery-orris one. However, I recently tried to smell a real iris flower and it didn't have a scent at all. I did some research and indeed iris flowers have almost no smell and iris as known as a note comes rather from the iris' roots called orris as you say. It confuses me because on fragrantica you clearly see a distinction between iris and orris root (and same in my mind - Dior Homme smells completely different than orris fragrances). Do you know what do perfumers mean then by 'iris (flower) note' as opposed to orris? Is it some abstract lipsticky synthetic accord or the general 'flowery-powdery' vibe achieved by other means? On the other note: the reason behind releasing the flanker is that opoponax is going to be severely limited according to the new 2021 IFRA regulations. The original was very heavy on opoponax and that's precisely why you can't pick up any in Black Iris.

    • @samueleisenberg372
      @samueleisenberg372 Před 4 lety

      @Surround Scent I had the same intuition that 'iris' is just this artificially created powdery-lipsticky accord and has nothing to do with the actual plant. Thanks mate

      Yes, orris butter (the material) is incredibly rich! When we see a note Fragrantica or a perfume website that doesn't correspond directly to a single material. If it says 'rose' it can be 20 different materials to give the impression of rose. The same with iris. I agree that some Iris flowers don't smell, but some smell extremely strongly! A perfumer can take orris butter in various directions, and then list a note of iris or orris, depending on what sort of impression they want to give. Amouage list 14 notes for this fragrance, but it could be over 50 materials, to give the impression of these notes.

    So you give a shout out to one of my favourite perfumers ever (Sultan), you mention positively my favourite Fahrenheit flanker, then you give me the idea to give the name "vanilla interlude" for this flanker (pun intended) but most importantly you are brutally honest and objective as usual

    Amouage Company was established by His Highness Sayyid Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi in 1983 as requested by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed, Sultan of Oman, to reflect the wonderful traditions and heritage of the Sultanate of Oman by creating exotic, unusual and finest perfumes and to give them as gifts for guests Honour. . In addition to that, let us tell the world about the ingredients that are established, especially in Oman, such as the rare flower that was found in Jabal Al Akhdar and the exceptional frankincense mountains that we all know a long history of frankincense Dhofar.

    They made this fragrance for me. I found interlude to be very interesting and I liked the smell but I simply could not wear it.
    The black iris made exactly what I wanted interlude to be. I think you are way to critical. When you already considered interlude a masterpiece than the changes are not for you. For me the black iris is a masterpiece because it’s wearable for me.

    I called it right away. It just comes across as Amouage trying to ride the iris bandwagon that came and went years ago. There's really no point in this release.

  • @TalkingScents
    @TalkingScents Před 4 lety +1

    I don't think you're being mean. You're absolutely right. This is not a bad fragrance, I really like it, but it isn't hugely different and does leave you wondering why not just wear interlude? It's just not different enough. It's not bad at all, but it's nothing revolutionary.

    • @WaftsfromTheLoft
      @WaftsfromTheLoft  Před 4 lety

    That's a shame Amouage went to Aventus cologne route..sigh They could've done something more adventurous with the name like Black iris!
