I agree about the hot tub. Imagine if you were jet lagged. It's a public space, yes, but that lady was LOUD!
Totally agree with you on the hot tub sitch. 🙄
Agreed. Middle of the day/ afternoon... Ok, you can get a little bit rowdy (tho, maybe watch the language). But not at 8am.
It wasn't just the fact that it was before pool opening hours, which are literally posted right next to the hot tub. It was also the factor of WHAT they were saying, and HOW. It was 2 or 3 adults and 4 or 5 kids under the age of 12, I would say. The loudest of the adults literally said/screamed, "We have to f+cking check out at 11am. What are they going to do? F+cking kick us out? Ahahahaaaaaaa!" I might be an old fart, but I don't feel like that is an appropriate way to talk around little kids, and it's definitely not a good message to teach kids, either. They're learning, "In life, you can do anything you want until you get caught." Know what I mean?
We took the bus in Honolulu too on a family vacation, the rest of our family rented cars and we were so glad we took the bus. They paid an arm and a leg for parking, and it was a headache for them. There are several car rental places down town, Honolulu too, so if you want to rent a car for the day, it is pretty easy to do.
Bah Spam 🤢 brings back childhood memory 😂. Omg that Bush🤣 i bet it caught a lot of people out .
The good shave ice places make their own special syrups and they soak the ice with flavor. The last shop I visited on Maui allowed you to come back to the window if you needed more syrup. You also gotta get the scoop of macadamia nut ice cream at the bottom. The best one I’ve had was near Hanalei on Kauai served out of a broken down bus.
Good shave is also includes some ice cream. The ice is super fine and the syrups are home.made, with natural cane sugar, not HFCS.
I agree with you about the loud hot tub people. Yuck!
SPAM is such a thing in Hawaii that the McDonald's there have a special local breakfast platter with SPAM, rice, and scrambled eggs. Definitely get out and see more of Oahu when you return. Honolulu is great but there is so much more to see on the rest of the island. Get away from Waikiki and it's absolutely gorgeous and less crowded.
Morgan this is the most excited I have ever seen you about a trip. You were a trip about a trip! I loved it!
And I'm so excited to show you!
Best thumbnail 😂.
Hawaii is such a lovely place! When I lived in California, I vacationed there once and went two more times for work. Also like you said, the food scene is so good 😊 I think there’s a branch of the udon restaurant in London (it’s about as close as you can get for now)
Good info on Waikiki - hope to visit there soon! I like the end music.
Hi Morgan i love to se your show , I buy your book before went to Hawaii to read on the plane I can finish yet but so far I love it I going to finish next week when we fly to San Antonio Tx , Thank you
I wasn't sure if I could watch this video. I was booked to sail on POA last year with a few days before and after in Waikiki. 40th anniversary trip. It seemed like everyone I knew went to Hawaii last year. 3 weeks before we were to leave my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Luckily I had cruise insurance and got all the money back. I hope to someday get to go to Hawaii. But so far I did enjoy your video, looking forward to seeing rest. And yes to cost of trip. My cancelled trip was probably going to end up in the $14 to $15K when it was all over. Yikes. Agree that the people in the Hot Tub at 8 am were obnoxious. And would have been at anytime of day or worse night. Yes, they are on vacation too and should have fun, but it was a public place.
Sorry to hear about all that misfortune. :-/ Have you cruised since then?
@@VeryunOfficialTravelGuides I went with my sister and her husband's family for their birthday cruise last month. It was nice, and I enjoyed it, but figured out a booze cruise to beautiful beaches isn't my idea of a perfect holiday. I want to do things, see things when I get to ports. I will go to Hawaii in a couple of years. Meanwhile, I am taking notes while watching you and Marcus on your cruise.
Worked out there at the Naval Base a few years back and stayed at a condo in Waikiki and there’s a ton of local places to eat and inexpensive. FYI we make loco moco all the
I miss Hawaii so much. I have to go back. We took the Wikiwiki bus from Waikiki to The Arizona Memorial and it was so inexpensive and fun. Thank you for your video and Aloha!
Yep! You got me!!!
Cha-ching! :-P Sorry to have annoyed you, but I'm glad you came over to watch the video anyways! Have you been to Hawaii?
That airline ticket gave me low-cost carrier flashbacks!
We just did this cruise on POA at the end of February into early March. Loved the literary and the destination (which is why you go). The ship is much more of a floating hotel than a regular cruise ship. We are royal fans so that was a little bit of an adjustment but we still had a great time. Treat it like a hotel with meals and you'll be happy.
Did you see any of the shows? I don't know what was worse the chairs and how the seats slanted forward making them super uncomfortable or terrible elementary assembly quality shows 😂. Went to a couple and said no thanks I'm good. We were so tired at the end of most days we didn't need it.
Definitely recommend this as a great way to do an overall visit of Hawaii to get to see and feel most of the islands.
Will definitely be back to Hawaii someday.
Matsumoto Shave Ice was amazing !
So glad you did Pearl Harbor
For udon noodles they authentic in Hawaii that is an awesome price .
I love Hawaii...first trip, 19, Day before Christmas Eve and had to snowmobile out 5 miles one by one day before from a rural ranch with logistics you would have to see to beleive and get to car dad parked on highway..my maternal grandparents 50th.
West coasters here and well it was really 50/50 from our air there..but closer in out minds and first trip there for all but grandparents. So wishing you a good trip...so looking forward to this. Waking up and putting on a loaned lol, sundress, and putting my feet in warm ocean water on Christmas Morning on wonderful beach just open and easy area right across from our condos is something I will never ever forget. My dad could not fathom it and we just had to get him summer clothes when there...it was a wonderful magic family having new fun together week.
Agree with you about shave ice, a let down. Why can't someone just try selling granita there? That's more like it! :)
You were true to your word, and you used the title that you said that you would just to see how much havoc it would cause.
Seeing the oil slick of the USS Arizona is a chilling experience
Yes! There as a lot that day.
Love the headband
Another fun interesting video!
Oahu is an amazing island! There's so much to see and do, lots of natural and cultural places to visit. I would definitely recommend spending as many nights as possible if anyone is visiting before a cruise.
The prices you mentioned are pretty typical. $17 for a veggie poke bowl and drink is a decent deal for Waikiki. Everything is just expensive there. The shave ice was the only think you mentioned that seemed high.
Wow! $13 for udon is a bargain in Waikiki. Actually, anyplace. It looked like you also go aome.good protein. Really good udon and ramen broth take a long time make. So glad you had a taste of Waikiki. BTW, covid caused the prices to increase even more, af least 20% and up to 50%. My fave island is Maui. In 2019, before the shut down one can get a decent 1 bedroom condo across the street from the beach for $130. In 2022 the price doubled, easily. A Luau at the Grand Wailea waa $99 with a $30 off coupon at Costco. And the Grand Wailea is exactly what it sounds like, upscale. In 2022, no more Costco discounts and the cost of the basic luau jumped to $225. There is nothing like Hawaii anywhere else in the world.
The islands were kissed.by the goddesses..
Can't wait to see more from this trip! I'm going on my first Hawaiian cruise in September - leaving from San Francisco. It's a 16 day cruise - very exciting. Looking forward to seeing your trip!!!
Great Video Morgan! Thanks!
Thanks, Doug! Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for sharing!
Excellent, excellent video. We will be there in September of this year. Love ALL of your videos.❤
Thanks Morgan it looks nice over there.
Hawai is a place we would love to visit , looking forward to seeing your adventures 😉.
I'm so excited to see more Hawaii videos, and I'm so happy you had such a good time! I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't eat pork. I know that Hawaiian food is pretty pork heavy, so featuring your meal choices (as a non meat eater) is really very interesting to me. 😊👍I've never had an acai bowl either (not really a thing in Michigan), so I'm glad they live up to the hype!
Betcha the folks in the hot tub have scary bushes 😂
Haha. Maybe!
Aloha Morgan, so glad you enjoyed Oahu & looking forward to the rest of the series. Locals know Marukame Udon is the best! To save $$ on food, try L&L, they’re all over the island & for $10 to &12 you get an enormous plate of chicken Katsu, short ribs, or many other local favorites, easily enough food for 2 people.
I'm always interested in videos detailing how much you spent. It helps me keep reality in mind when I plan my own vacations, even if they're not the same destination.
I love that! "Orientation session for planning a longer next trip." I feel like that when it comes to cruise stops in Mexico. I've so far only been to one place in Mexico but I'm working on finding another that stops in several places. I want to take a trip to see Mayan ruins but I'm hoping to find somewhere less tourist-y and more educational and experiential, and hopefully visiting a few briefly will help me know where I want to spend several days, rather than just part of one.
Really looking forward to the rest of the videos for this trip!
And I'm looking forward to sharing them :-P
OMG Morgan, watching your videos will be watching my own trip! We were in Waikiki the same days as you. Our hotel was next to International Market. We went to Spam Jam. We walked the outside alley-way souvenir kiosk area. We did Pearl Harbor & the exact same luau you went to a day or two after you. I’m sad we didn’t get to meet you - talk about timing. Like you I fell in love with Hawaii - it’s natural beauty and its wonderful culture. I wish I could get back there more often.
😁🌺🌴🌴🌴
That's so crazy! Yes, we totally want to go back. I feel like Waikiki is everything Miami Beach wishes it could be, but fails at. We absolutely loved it there.
Independence for Hawaii!
Waikiki is very expensive but if you take Da Bus outside of Waikiki, the prices become more affordable. It is that way with any Tourist areas. My favorite local food spot is Ramen Ya, a local chain restaurant. I hope you visit Hawaii again and stay at least one week.
Its interesting to see your take on Honolulu and Waikiki Beach. It reminded me about how my family became familiar with Honolulu and Waikiki after moving there. Our first 15 weeks on island was centered around Waikiki because our quarters were being renovated, and we had to live in an apartment there. We did all the touristy things like you guys and my kids did 1 local thing which Im glad you didnt experience. They both got head lice ! It took 3 months to get them both clear...ugh. Finally we moved to our home off Kalanianiole Hwy, east of Diamond Head and from that point on we rarely went into Honolulu...Oahu has so much more to offer than those 2 areas so definitely try to go back and see the real Oahu, I promise you it will be a memorable experience ❤
I can't wait to go back and NOT get head lice! :-P
There are different shave ice where they put ice cream in the middle or douse it with heavy cream but yes it's nothing earth shattering. Poke bowls are so good in Hawaii and yes they are a bit pricey.
Most food is shipped in so that makes it expensive. Ask the staff where locals eat, probably further away from the tourist areas. Food should be a bit cheaper there.
Spam must have something to do with US Navy bases. When I was in Okinawa , the ships and markets were full of tins of Spam!
This title makes me so mad!!! ...😂 Kidding, seriously not sure if anyone would get upset lol. It's not click baity, or totally inaccurate (I mean it's usa but not mainland USA)... I think/hope you were worried over nothing 😊
Anyway, Hawaii is on my bucket list so it's wonderful to see you having such a good time and I can't wait for the rest of your (I am sure to be) helpful videos! 🎉
Twice we did a two week stay in Waikiki, rented a car, and drove all over the island discovering everything along the way.
I sooooo want to do that now.
Your food prices are about what we pay here. A casual dinner would be $60cdn with no drinks.
From what I have seen on other videos regarding the shave ice, you may have gone to the wrong place. The ones I have seen put ice cream at the bottom, the shave ice, flavoring and condensed milk over it. That sounds really good to me, but I love any type of snow cone.
The place we went had a line, so I thought, "OK, this must be a good one." But nope!
There is a saying, Hawai'i no ka oi! This means Hawai'i is the best.
Don’t watch this video when you’re hungry…. All the food pics are making me jealous. I’m going to have to plan a Waikiki getaway for the Foodie Luau and Spam Jam!
I’m surprised you were able to get on The Bus with luggage. Did the bus driver or any passengers give you flack for that? I remember it wasn’t allowed at some point, but that was years ago.
No, no problem at all with the bags on the bus. In fact, there were a few others, as well.
Hawaii is part of Mars, its not even on Earth !
I think Hawaii is part of the USA. Just thought you should know
I think you should watch the video ;-)
Is that a Sailing la Vagabond shirt you are wearing?
I do like watching that channel, but this is from another sailing channel of some German guys who bought a boat with no sailing experience and then sailed it around the world. You can check them out if you want, (but it's all in German). You might still enjoy some of the "visual" aspects of their videos, though ;-) czcams.com/video/CBTW8OVTx1s/video.htmlsi=is5E0gIu55M0VXiy
Honolulu reminds me of the Vegas strip. ☹️
You mean down town Honolulu, or Waikiki?
Spamiversity!! Would you go back for just this experience, or would you bundle it with a cruise? You could always do a repo from Auz/NZ/Japan??? ;)
On my Jewel cruise, I had booked an inside (solo) but immediately went to the front desk to ask about the potential for a balcony upgrade. I was offered one for $400 once we left port.
I just wish someone would have told me about Brilliance class ships sooner ;-)
@@VeryunOfficialTravelGuidesPthbbbtbbttt ;)
They are certainly not Wild Fun .... but they have an allure.... a more relaxed vibe .. which if that is your thing, then they are awesome, especially the constant vistas of the sea or ports .. based on your critique of other ships as of late, you just had to love the class... ( phew)
Hi what ship are you on
Royal Caribbean Brilliance of the Seas.
Huh?
Did you get a good exchange rate for your dollars?😂
Actually they took my American money, too! Isn't that great? :-P
Not like any other “shaved ice” I have ever seen. Not, IMHO, typical
Goodbye USA? Uhhhmm,...Hawaii IS the USA too. Hola? Did you mean, Mahalo? C'mon Morgan, step up your game! 😅
I think you need to watch the video ;-P
@@VeryunOfficialTravelGuides
I did, u got me 🤣
You gotta play the CZcams game. Don’t explain the joke, just leave it. Then when people flood your comments telling you how stupid you are, your engagement score skyrockets.
I hate hearing "Vancouver Canada". It's Vancouver, British Columbia. You don't say "Denver USA". You say Denver, Colorado :)
I love you buddy but Hawaii is part of the USA.
I think you need to watch the video ;-P
