Good simple tying Alex 🐟🎣🙂
🤙
Cool video man, Love a hare and copper aye
Alex, I heard you say that you don’t love fly tying. However, I’d guess that given your penchant for creativity with your fly fishing videos, that if you’d dive in a little deeper you would learn to love fly tying.
I’ve been tying for 52 years now and love the fact there’s constantly more to learn. Although I live in the Rocky Mountains, I’ve recently started tying saltwater patterns for redfish and other species.
I used to host a fly tying get together at my home once a month where friends of all skill levels could brainstorm and have a fun evening tying new patterns.
If entomology is of interest to you, then there’s no better way to learn about bugs than by tying the flies that imitate them.
Lastly, there’s no better way to pass the winter months than by refilling your boxes for spring. These days there are tons of resources online to take your skills to the next level. Some fantastic tiers share their skills for free that benefit all of us who love fly fishing and fly tying.
Love your content. Keep it up!
Thanks Jeff. It is more that I really don't have the time to tie my own flies any more - editing literally fills any gaps in my day and I go through SO many flies, I just could never keep up!
Great to see you tie, Alex! I love simple flies. They tend to catch a lot of fish.
Yes they do!
An absolutely ageless pattern, catching fish the world over . 👌👌🇮🇪
Hi like you I hate fly tying but when I visit NZ from Scotland I tie hare and coppers and pheasant tails in different sizes and just buy a few dries. Tying those will save you a lot of cash as flies there are pricey.
I gave this one a try this morning and got 20+ trout on it. It’s been a slow few weeks but this morning things came alive again, thanks
Awesome, stoked it got you some fish🤙🤙
You should do more fly tying videos
Will see how long lockdown lasts…!😆
I tied some of these based on your descriptions in past videos. Made mine on a jig hook with some bigger beads and a pink hot spot thread collar. Worked awesome on my local river. Used UV dyed squirrel dubbing. Great fly! Thanks for sharing
Awesome Alex. Want to try tieing my own flies at some point
Good stuff. A great fly for people to have in the fly box
Cheers man, def an old faithful!
Looking forward to next weeks video
I have just done my first fly tying video. It was like watching yours. Ye a bit of this and a bit of that. Oh what ever you fancy. Brilliant mate. Great pattern. Got that fishy look. Take care Shaun UK.
Yeah bro that’s the way innit😆
Nice simple tie, thanks Alex.
You bet bro, simple is good!
Perfect timing, I was just gonna get the fly tying kit back out since we are still locked down here in Auckland. Thanks buddy
Do it bro!! Let me know how you get on
First time I’ve seen you tie a fly.
Looks great - I’m going to give it a go soon - thanks.
Yeah I don't tie much any more but that will catch you fish for sure..
Nice looking fly. Very similar to my hares ear. No doubt catches trout. Lik’en it.
The season opens tomorrow here in Victoria. I will a couple of hare and coppers tonight and catch a couple of trout
Thanks for the great vid I will go and tie some definitely as soon as I can thanks again
Get amongst it bro!!
@@TrippinOnTrout definitely will
Love the H&C, as a point nymph without a bead is deadly. Chur bro!
Word!
great filler! I had been wondering what the recipe for the famous hair and copper was for a while. Cheers
Nice job on the fly!
Thanks!
PT's & H&C's - literally don't need anything else. I'm like you - I keep putting off the fly tying episodes, so that all I ever tie are the 'meat hunters'. Don't seem to get round to being creative. Nice clip. Keep the Kaweka's in mind for this summer. I didn't get up there last year, but keen to make it happen this summer...
I was actually thinking about that the last couple of weeks mate. Still keen...
@@TrippinOnTrout Okay - I will stay in touch.
You know Alex is proper bored and/or out of things to do when a fly tying vid gets uploaded 😂😂
You know me well😆
"Choice-one", bro..a guess it's a matter of commitment neha, the bro back hm does his own, woolly-buggers, mrs simpson, glo-bug flies plus others as well,.never got around to 'av a go, though wouldn't mind..you make it look so simple n easy,..'one-day-rodger' as da saying goes.. kaapai cuz..Kia ora..thnx 🤙🦾🎣🎣 ✌️👍
If I can tie it, it IS easy bro!!
Cul de Canard is French for "Duck's Ass"
Cul de sac means "Ass of the bag" (Bag's ass)
Just thought you'd find that funny, mate. Can't wait for this travel bubble and to come see you. Victoria's trout season opens at midnight tonight! Taking my son for the first time. Stoked!
That IS funny and I did giggle..Good luck out there
Thanks Alex , I'm thinking about taking the plunge a tying my own. How do you find the mongoose vice to use ?
Cheers,
Kevin
Just online bro or if you are in nz, Taupo rod and tackle have them
I lobe tying those flys. Like u said they are quick and simple. I havent looked in the description yet before i ask this question so if my answer is in there my bad bro lol but where did u get ur vise? Im in the market for a new vise myself. Have a good one bud.
Taupo Rod and Tackle is where I got mine from and they have a good selection - check em out
Just a quick question.. What model / make is your main camera when filming the fishing besides the gopros. Thanks.
Olympus EM5 Mark iii
Nice tie. I'm even more lazy and just use a little dubbing wax. I don't split the thread. Usually holds in long enough to catch a few fish before it is lost. Just moved to tpo the week before lock down. Got out on the local yesterday. Insane amounts of willing fish. Can't wait to get out again. None on the h/c tho
Crazy fishery aye
@@TrippinOnTrout so good. Is it any good in summer dry dropper it have all the fish dropped back out.
Nah it doesn’t really hold fish in summer
Thanks Alex. Is that UV dubbing blue or some other color?
Yeah its a kinda blue colour
Looks the business - I wish my eye-sight was good enough to split thread like that :-)
😂 Fair enough - looks good when you dub it the usual way too though
Nice -:)
Hi. Could that fly be used on still water. Or does it work best on a swing.
Yeah bro, maybe an unweighted or lightly weighted version for still water and when fishing it in rivers always go for a dead drift, without drag as much as possible - looks way more natural that way
Hi Alex
Not being clever but how does this simple little nymph fear in England.
I mean a lot of the original lures and Nymphs originated from there anyway.
Scaggyer the best I think.
Cool little video mate.
Take care.
Craig.
I would bet that will catch fish. anywhere in the world bro
Getting bad when you've got to tie a fly aye bro! Yuck 😂 nice work brother 🤙🏼
OOsssshh bro, real bad when you drag that vice out!!
🐛👍👍🎣🙆✌
I never know if I'm a friend or a buddy or a pal?
Maybe all 3...?
Nice job..try not cut the wire with the scissors though as you will make shit of the scissors lol..nobody should be really buying nymphs.there the simplest of flies to tie.
I have specific wire scissors for that reason!😆
Good choice to show. Don't know why you're so averse to show you tying ? you ain't at all bad at it!
I never said I couldn't......I just don't have the time or inclination to do so any more!!😂
@@TrippinOnTrout Well i suppose it keeps the people at Catergory 3 and Justin busy
