    I've read several reviews of Duratex where people ruined their work by stacking their cabinets. The stuff never 100% cures enough to stack, it will always adhere together even after a few months. Perhaps baking them after the curing process will cure them fully.

    Seems like some paints take a really long time to fully cure. I have painted subwoofers with Rust-Oleum Painters Touch - Ultra Cover Premium Latex Paint (Semi Gloss) 2 coats, and yes it takes a few months to fully cure rock hard. Once it does it comes out great, cheap and looks good. This paint isnt 100% scratch proof but it does when when fully dry.

    I need to see the stereo integrity 24 inch subs finished up and reviewed with a frequency response graph, as I'm eyeing the 24 inch for my sub. I built the titan 615lx and can't even believe how good they are and how loud they get with staying crystal clear.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 5 lety +1

      Yea I'm getting around to those now. Going to build the easy box first and make a video with some demos and graphs. Those titans looked awesome. You must have a AT screen to put them behind?

    • @philiplubduck6107
      @philiplubduck6107 Před 5 lety

      I plan to add an AT screen in the future. for now I built custom boxes that allow me to place the center under my screen. I side mounted the waveguide for the center. The left and right have it top mounted. my boxes were built to net 5.5 cubic feet and when I demoed them in my basement they hit all the way to 27hz and by ear start to roll off at 34hz. I think 1-2 of the 24 inch woofers placed right behind the couch crossed at 50-60hz would be perfect. painting this week and have a Mini DSP mic to measure when its all done.

Ran some REW measurements that I posted, pretty big dip right at 53hz and large peak at 40hz, grrr. Need to start my subwoofer build soon. Glad I learned about the duratex sticking issue from you other wise I would have set the brackets right on top of my boxes. also yeah I think those 1299s you built should dig lower, on my receiver I just set them to large and they play full range.

    • @DJSHaKa
      @DJSHaKa Před 4 lety

      This is true. When i paint i let it cure for at least a month. This is how long some paints take for a full cure. Enamels take notoriously long. A good indicator is when the smell of the paint goes away 100%, some rack rails that i painted with a Gloss spray enamel took about 6 months to fully cure.

    Would love to hear how those speakers sound. And those co-axial drivers you used in the surrounds - could they be used as full-range bookshelf speakers? Sort of like DIY Kef LS50s?

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 5 lety +1

      I've only had maybe 3 hours of listening time on them so far, but I can tell these will be amazing speakers... The Volts are very versatile speakers as well. Many have used them for bookshelves, surrounds, atmos, even main LCR as a somewhat compact speaker with great range and clarity. I will say if you used them as bookshelf you'd probably want to make the ported versions as they will dig down a bit deeper. The sealed version only goes down to around 70 Hz where as the ported goes down to 45 Hz.

  • @djscott9207
    @djscott9207 Před 4 lety

    Nice video. So is this stuff durable or not? I understand stacking them before fully curing is the issue here. But how well does it stand up to impact and abrasion over a latex or an enamel or say Hercules bedliner? Thanks for any feedback. Looking to build some DIY PA speakers for the road.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 4 lety +1

      Bedliner would most likely stand up better to scratches or impacts. Different material/ purpose though. I haven't had any major things hit them, but I've knocked them with a few things here and there, as has my son. They look like the day I painted them. From what I've read, this stuff is very resistant to scratching, but like anything it will have its limits

      @@aang6421 really just depends on preference, but spraying will take more time. There a bit more prep involved and you definitely need the space/tools to spray. Duratex isn't quite truck bed liner. Similar look though. It is actually made and marketed specifically to coat speaker cabinets. You may have thinned the Duratex too much. This is straight from the manufacturer:
    "The composition of DuraTex® will drastically be compromised if more than 5% of water in proportion to the amount of DuraTex® is added."
    This could definitely be the cause of your adhesion problems.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  Před 5 lety

      Interesting. Did not see that part. I honestly don't know how much I watered it down percentage wise, like I said I guessed 5-10%. I was more going off of how it flowed off the stick and in the gun. I wouldn't think it would spray right out of an HVLP gun without getting it to a runny consistency... Appreciate the insight. That being said, there have been other who have rolled this stuff on that have the same issues. Many just don't stack them or wait a few months before doing so. There really hasn't been any adhesion issues or other issues with the coating itself outside of sticking to itself too well. Thanks man!
