I remember getting this game as a present when I was little because I'd loved the superman movies and also loved the iron giant. I remember not being able to beat the first level and thinking like "huh that's really hard" and subsequently enjoying the multiplayer mode with my friends. ...A few years pass with relative obscurity, I remember coming across an internet article when I'm about 10 giving a horrible review of superman 64. It piqued my curiosity so I looked it up and found other reviews that said it was the worst game on the planet. Superman 64 is worse, because E.T. was a bad game from an era where video games were trying to build up. There weren't a whole lot of good video games on the old Atari consoles. Back than, the only real good games were only available on arcade machines. In other words, while E.T. was a horrible game, it was only horrible among a very small number of games. Companies have lost their focus on quality, and are more focused on making as much money with less time and effort over everything, and it is getting ridiculously out of hand. Here's hoping Nintendo can fix these issues with the upcoming Switch console.
I always felt ET was better than Superman 64. If you play ET long enough, you eventually figure and can beat it. Superman is just too damn frustrating and not fun at all.
E.T. was the only vanilla game to be a randomizer, so it was frustrating to fans at first. I'd say E.T. is a D+ if I had to be honest, cause it really wasn't the worst game contrary to popular belief. That game was rushed badly though. If I had to chose between the worst game of all time between E.T. and Superman 64, it's Superman 64. Being programmed badly and having so many glitches, Superman 64 gets an F-.
Definitely Superman. E.T. was made by one man in 5 weeks for the damn executives wanting a rushed product. Huge props to Howard Scott Warshaw. Superman 64 had an entire dev team, and even though Warner Bros meddled with their project a ton, there was no excuse to have a game that difficult and unplayable to be shipped.
I feel so bad for the dev of E.T. He had areal passion for programming and he worked tirelessly on E.T. the problem was that he wasn't given nearly enough time.

Although it's a terrible game, Bubsy 3D has the most rudimentary of game design. Big Rigs looks like something a high school kid put together in a weekend as a joke. There's nothing to it. Yes, Bubsy 3D isn't much better, but it HAS game design, no matter how bad. Big Rigs gets my vote as the worst.

After the trilogy of Batman games I'd say Rocksteady could make any super hero a good game because I don't think any other company has made a better super hero game to date (The lego games are cool but not nearly as good)

E.T. Atari was made in 1982 so Superman 64 is worse. It was made in 1999. Super Mario 64 was made in 1996 and Ocarina of Time in 98 It had all potentials to be good but they just fucked it up and they knew it.
Im not even going to watch this video. But ET doesnt deserve to be on any types of lists like this EVER. While it was a rushed game, and suffered the same fate as No Man's Sky, it doesnt deserve to be called "Worst Game Ever" or anything like it. 5 weeks is what ONE man spent on this. At that time games required pouring your heart into and not setting up some scripts or just putting things together, or some copy/paste job. One man poured his life into ET and the game has been shown by many actual long-term gamers that it is actually better than more modern games since it is such a difficult game. Dat Guy Trough It was hyped up 30-40 years ago when ET was immensely popular when it was in theaters. In fact there are commercials saying things liked "Help ET get home, play the official ET The Video Game, based off the movie". The public hyped up the game many many years back and when it didnt live up to what the gamers expected, returns galore. Which led to Atari's demise. If you look at why Atari and the gaming industry crashed all those years ago, and what is happening now, another gaming crash is imminent. Games are coming out that are constantly disappointing players, constantly getting worse and worse and constantly games are being taken down off Steam, returns with many games. I wouldnt doubt another gaming crash to come about.

I have played Superman though. Even watching someone speedrun it is still unentertaining because 90% of the run is rings. I'd say Big Rigs is worse though since it wasn't even finished yet.

Of course, I have played Donkey Kong Junior Math, and the Atari 2600 port of Pac-man, which are both insanely bad as well. Tank Tank Tank I have a particular hatred for, as it cost me 50 dollars, I brought in to Gamestop just Two days after I got it and I only got 12 dollars in credit.

For the full price 60$ that they charged at release with the horrible story and Unimmersive multiplayer in which people just drove around for hours on end in cars to get points. Especially after Battlefield 4 came out which was better in every way and way before that Battlefield 1942,1943 and Vietnam were also a hell of a lot better than Hardline. It was just a cash grab filler for Starwars battlefront which was almost if not worse when that came out :/.

yes it wasn't Flatout terrible in comparison to the others on the list in terms of quality, but considering that they charged full price $60 for an incomplete cash grab copy and paste game is bullshit, especially considering that most of it's predecessors were better in almost everyway which were no more expensive or less at release. In terms of quality for the amount they charged for the game it's as bad as the rest of them. Same with the Elder Scrolls Online and COD Infinite Warfare.
E.T. was fairly well-designed and just suffered time constraints that left it a bit annoying to play. Superman 64 was full of terrible ideas from the start.
To be fair to E.T it had randomly generated maps and difficulty levels which not a lot of games had at that time . given the lack of time he had to make the game i'd say it turned out pretty well .
ET: it almost killed the entire art form of video games. That's like an album killing music, a book killing literature, etc. ET has the dubious honour of being the only known creation to threaten an entire art form. Superman 64, though possessing no redeeming value, had no impact on gaming whatsoever. It doesn't even come CLOSE.
I had that E.T. game when I was little. I actually spent a fair amount of time with it. I guess we just aren't as difficult at 5 years old because I was enjoying it :-/
I feel sorry for Atari corporation been trying to make an movie based on game until E.T. developed and it destroys their gaming company even establishing the Game Crash of 1983. For Superman 64, it's declaring the worst superhero game of the decade,1990s. Thanks to Titus Software, WB and DC tossing them away from their studios. Thus the gaming development company shuts down their doors, I think 2009. Poor Superman.

I am one of the (un)lucky ones that did own and play ET back in the day. The fact that my brother and I realized how bad that game was among all of the other bad games that existed (and we owned) back then speaks volumes.
So you chose 2 games out of all games EVER to go for the title. Why these two? Also how is it fair to compare two games which have 17 between them. I don't think any game should qualify before 90's.

I can probably forgive E.T. due to that it was Atari and while it had it's problems, there was worse games made for the 2600. Superman 64 however, there is no excuse. It was on a cutting edge console that did 3D games exceedingly well (Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time, etc.). To me, Superman 64 is the worst "licensed" game ever made, alongside Back to the Future for NES.

What about "Sonic The Hedgehog (2006)" on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 or "Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric" on the Nintendo Wii U? Oh, wait a minute... All the other Sonic games that have been released since 1991 (or at least a vast majority of them, since we can't forget about "Sonic The Hedgehog Genesis" on the Game Boy Advance or even the Sega Game Gear version of "Sonic Spinball", which are the real bad Sonic games IMO) are pretty much excellent games that are mediocre at worst, so I can see why they were left out in such a debate. XD

I had Superman 64. I gave up very quickly so terrible it was. But I could endure a lot of shit at this time. From C64 to N64 i played many bad gemaes because i bought them. But this was a new level of badness. Im not sure, but i think i I never finished the ring Level´s/Section´s. NO playability, no attempt at graphic design, nothing to make you want to play it a second time. There were great (but low graphics) games at the time -- and this one was NOT good in ANY sense. Superman had better graphics and at least had a "world" to fly around in. In ET you couldn't even walk across the screen without falling in a giant pit! Where do these people live!? But it's okay because ET just flies out of it by stretching his neck. Really? No... E.T. is FAR worse than Superman.

E.T. Atari was made in 1982 so Superman 64 is worse. It was made in 1999. Super Mario 64 was made in 1996 and Ocarina of Time in 98

But ET doesnt deserve to be on any types of lists like this EVER. While it was a rushed game, and suffered the same fate as No Man's Sky, it doesnt deserve to be called "Worst Game Ever" or anything like it. 5 weeks is what ONE man spent on this. At that time games required pouring your heart into and not setting up some scripts or just putting things together, or some copy/paste job. One man poured his life into ET and the game has been shown by many actual long-term gamers that it is actually better than more modern games since it is such a difficult game.
Superman 64 i can agree with, but there are plenty of other games out there that are worse. ET is not one of them.

Dat Guy Trough It was hyped up 30-40 years ago when ET was immensely popular when it was in theaters. In fact there are commercials saying things liked "Help ET get home, play the official ET The Video Game, based off the movie". The public hyped up the game many many years back and when it didnt live up to what the gamers expected, returns galore. Which led to Atari's demise. If you look at why Atari and the gaming industry crashed all those years ago, and what is happening now, another gaming crash is imminent. Games are coming out that are constantly disappointing players, constantly getting worse and worse and constantly games are being taken down off Steam, returns with many games.
I wouldnt doubt another gaming crash to come about.

For the full price 60$ that they charged at release with the horrible story and Unimmersive multiplayer in which people just drove around for hours on end in cars to get points. Especially after Battlefield 4 came out which was better in every way and way before that Battlefield 1942,1943 and Vietnam were also a hell of a lot better than Hardline. It was just a cash grab filler for Starwars battlefront which was almost if not worse when that came out :/.

yes it wasn't Flatout terrible in comparison to the others on the list in terms of quality, but considering that they charged full price $60
for an incomplete cash grab copy and paste game is bullshit, especially considering that most of it's predecessors were better in almost everyway which were no more expensive or less at release.
In terms of quality for the amount they charged for the game it's as bad as the rest of them. Same with the Elder Scrolls Online and COD Infinite Warfare.
E.T. was fairly well-designed and just suffered time constraints that left it a bit annoying to play. Superman 64 was full of terrible ideas from the start.
To be fair to E.T it had randomly generated maps and difficulty levels which not a lot of games had at that time . given the lack of time he had to make the game i'd say it turned out pretty well .

For Superman 64, it's declaring the worst superhero game of the decade,1990s. Thanks to Titus Software, WB and DC tossing them away from their studios. I am one of the (un)lucky ones that did own and play ET back in the day. The fact that my brother and I realized how bad that game was among all of the other bad games that existed (and we owned) back then speaks volumes.

I can probably forgive E.T. due to that it was Atari and while it had it's problems, there was worse games made for the 2600. Superman 64 however, there is no excuse. It was on a cutting edge console that did 3D games exceedingly well (Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time, etc.). To me, Superman 64 is the worst "licensed" game ever made, alongside Back to the Future for NES.

What about "Sonic The Hedgehog (2006)" on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 or "Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric" on the Nintendo Wii U? Oh, wait a minute... All the other Sonic games that have been released since 1991 (or at least a vast majority of them, since we can't forget about "Sonic The Hedgehog Genesis" on the Game Boy Advance or even the Sega Game Gear version of "Sonic Spinball", which are the real bad Sonic games IMO) are pretty much excellent games that are mediocre at worst, so I can see why they were left out in such a debate. In an era of horrible, Horrible, HORRIBLE games (many in 2 or 4 colors) those of us who shelled out the $39.95 to buy E.T. were amazed at how terrible the game was. NO playability, no attempt at graphic design, nothing to make you want to play it a second time. There were great (but low graphics) games at the time -- and this one was NOT good in ANY sense. Superman had better graphics and at least had a "world" to fly around in. In ET you couldn't even walk across the screen without falling in a giant pit! Where do these people live!? But it's okay because ET just flies out of it by stretching his neck. Really? No... E.T. is FAR worse than Superman.
