Papua New Guinea landslide buries at least 2,000 people

- Papua New Guinea estimates that 2,000 people were buried alive in last Friday's landslide as assessments of casualties have varied widely since the disaster.
The United Nations had estimated that 670 people were killed by the landslide in the South Pacific island nation's mountainous interior.

So many people live in absolutely stunningly beautiful parts of this world in complete innocence with extremely little to prepare for something like this.

@@user-nq1ll6yw4q When one travels quite a bit, to what are truly pure and pristine parts of this planet, where the people there live in villages surrounded by nature, as an architect/designer who has worked for the largest design & media firms in the world, I note their fragility to something that might happen that could decimate their entire existence. This could be earthquakes in S America, the tsunami in Thailand, or, what just happened in Papua New Guinea. Wonderful warm sweet kind people live in settings where they are completely vulnerable due to their innocence and lack of being able to be prepared.

Just yesterday I saw a video documentary on PBS with Martin Clunes enjoying himself in having fun mingling with the natives of Papua New Guinea. Such nice humble people.
2,000 people isn't a village, it's a small town!
This area is so very remote, and underdeveloped, and also throw in tribal and domestic conflict in the mix, and the scalar size of the rockslides maximizes the disaster by 1000%. Insane! Prayers first aoff, and you gonna' need aid, supplies, meds . . . etc.

Funny... I hadn't heard the lower numbers but just posted that I have serious doubts that 2000 people were in the area of the slide. 600+ makes more sense but still kinda high
You can't reasonably expect accurate numbers immediately after a disaster. It isn't important to get it right. It is clear there was great loss of life. There will be a better estimate in time.
Yes the number should be about 700+... Unfortunately i think the government is inflating the numbers for more aid

So much devastation across the globe, in all forms. We can only pray for all the families affected in Papua New Guinea, that they find their loved ones alive and rescue teams are able to assist soon. Many still impacted by the recent sudden floods in other countries and even more caught in wars. Pray for the Creator to be patient with all of us humans.
Mother nature does not care about humans or their self importance. She does what she does when conditions are right, regardless of whether humans are in the way, or not. She cares nothing for buildings or their occupants.
This is a horrible sight I can't believe it. I don't mean to sound cruel and I know you want to see your loved ones but they are very very deep and you guys are spending all this energy and you have nothing to begin with. I think it's like more important to set up food and water for you. Instead of digging . I think that they should start making sure the survivors have the things you need. Its to deep.
